And I'll mention this only because it's the truth...although he'd view it right now as a lateral move at best and probably a step down, Waddle in Ada would be a problem.  Not saying Etta doesn't support athletics.  They do.  They just don't have the resources ONU has.  And ONU is basically in small school HS football Mecca for recruiting.  But he's been on the River for a decade so hopefully he's happy there.

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

Could we see Daryl Ely as the next HC in Ada?

this will be extremely anti-D3 beliefs. but if you want to "fix the tournament", you get rid of it.  There are less than a handful of teams that can actually win the national championship every year.  Have a four team playoff like the big boys and the rest of 24 or so conference winners play bowl games.  12 teams end the year happy, the NCAA saves a bunch of travel money, you get the same high quality title game.  Seems more likely than going up to 40 playoff teams and having the Stagg Bowl in January.

or

just increase the # of conference teams needed for an automatic bid, Pool B will be there for the smaller conferences and there will be more at-large bids

I'm not sure why a January Stagg Bowl isn't realistic. I know finishing before Christmas is somewhat more consistent with the D3 philosophy but it's not like other student athletes aren't having practices and games over the winter break.

Here's a question for this OAC thread.  By a mile the best two HC openings in the
OAC would be Mount and JCU.  So what's the list after that?  Best jobs.  I nearly choked on my vomit but I painfully think BW has to be 3rd.  After that I'm going ONU then actually Ott if they could get a real HC (may have one now to be fair).  Today Berg is CLEARLY better than Ott but I think Ott is a better job for a good HC.

IMO, we're already seeing the NCAA building a bracket based around travel costs.  Where do you play a New Years Stagg Bowl?  Flying both teams to Texas with the FCS or some other warm weather place where there is no D3 base?  pretty chilly in Salem or Canton in January.  I just can't see the NCAA agreeing to add more travel costs with more games and potentially more flights

Is the weather in January gonna be that much different than the third week of December in Salem?

This might just be me, but I love the idea of a whole weekend of college football championships!

-DIII Friday night
-DII Saturday at noon
-FCS Saturday night
-FBS Monday night

You could build it as a whole football extravaganza, and it would easily allow for an extra round of playoffs for DIII. Heck, lets go crazy and make it a 64 team tournament! Wanna see how Mount Union would do against the MASCAC runner up or North Central against the 3rd place team in the NACC? Wonder no more because those are now first round match-ups!  ;D (never going to happen, but let me dream lol)

In other words another game that is like many of their conference games.

Thank you, Coach Paul...ONU is losing a good one...

My two cents...

1. Mount
2. JCU
3. BW (good facilities and school support, great recruiting area in NE Ohio)
4. ONU (bigger enrollment/budget, nice facilities, great local HS football)
5. Marietta (smaller school - though athletics are well supported, facilities are top 3 in OAC...but lack of local recruiting base)
6. Heidelberg (smaller school - decent admin support, facilities getting better, great local HS football)
7. Otterbein (above average D3 facilities, admin support is so-so, good recruiting zone - but they're low in the pecking order for local kids)
8. Muskingum (new facilities move them up, admin support generally so-so, lack of local recruiting base like Marietta)
9. Capital (facilities aren't bad, but the admin is borderline adversarial to sports, good recruiting zone - but no one wants to go there)
10. Wilmington (bad facilities, low budget, just unable to get much traction no matter who is the coach)

I think that would be great-at least to have the DIII, DII, and FCS on the same weekend ( FBS, however, highly unlikely to ever consent to such arrangement). That arrangement has worked very well for the NCAA Lacrosse Championships in May, one of the few things the NCAA has done right over the years (emphasis is on the word few ::)).

Plus if I was a coach, would rather live in Cbus than Tiffin.  Whole lot of different places one could live in Columbus and commute. Tiffin don't got much but cheaper houses.  When I was there the thing to do was drive 40 minutes to Findlay  ;D

I would only switch ONU and BW.  JCU is always going to snag a significant portion of the Cleveland catholic school D3 kids, BW has to fight them and maybe Mount for the rest of NE OH's D3 recruits that want to stay local.  With ONU being in Ohio small high school heaven (MAC) and close enough to MI and IN and ONU's already foot into FL, there is no reason for the Polar Bears to not be in the upper third of the OAC once again.
