We'll get a good sense of ONU's direction with the coaching hire. They have a new president with a D1 background (former provost at Xavier). Does she view athletics as just another enrollment tool or does she want them to be competitive nationally?

On paper, their men's basketball hire was impressive (sitting D3 coach with multiple league titles), even if the jury is still out on how he'll do in NW Ohio. However, he appears to have been brought in prior to the new president taking over.

Dr. Acula

ONU might have more ground to make up in hoops than in football right now.  The OAC is loaded in hoops.  You're a legit good team just to finish in the top half.  I wouldn't say the same for football.  Haha.

Braxton Plunk needs 4 TD to break the NCAA career record for TD passes.  Does that happen in the early or later part of the 2nd quarter?  Do you go to Ruby or his cousin, Chase Lawson, for the record breaker?

Early 2nd Quarter to Tyrell Sanders.

Bill Borchert holds the real record (189) but the NCAA didn't count playoff statistics back then.

As someone who saw every borchert home game in person in 97 I can say w certainty he is still by far the best D3 QB I've ever seen.  His accuracy on deep balls was almost fake.  He just had that knack for perfect touch if a guy had even half a step.  Knestrick benefitted from it more than anyone (and knestrick was an elite contested deep ball pass catcher to be fair).

Borchert was unreal. Whenever I hear an announcer say the wind or rain will negate a passing attack I say not if the QB is Bill. RIDICULOUS.

As for Plunk...first quarter to Ruby. I went to a playoff game where Mount scored like 70 in first half...this could be worse.

Btw...if you are the Pioneers WTH is with the blue Bull? We are the Purple Raiders...our mascot is a unicorn?

Ballard had a pretty strong arm for the weather also.  Stagg Bowl 1993 was not fun weather.  Ballard was 28-45 for 387 yards 3 TDs passing.

Speaking of 1993, I did a google search for K.C. Keeler.  He was the HC  8-) at Rowan in 1993.  Later he went to Delaware and now at Sam Houston State.  He is the All Time Winningest Coach in D1-FCS Playoff History and won a Nat'l Championship at both schools.

He was 0-5 in Stagg Bowls though.

Per the Alfred State website:

"Previously, the college has relied on depictions of human characters such as Pioneer Pete or Orvis the Pioneer. The committee determined that an animal mascot is more inclusive and inviting. The goal is to provide athletes, students, alumni, and fans with a lovable animal mascot."

so there you go!

Admittedly, he is kind of cute and lovable!

Who is responsible for posting Mount highlights from the previous game? Can't figure out why it takes so long to get them up...aside from Lenny no longer being involved. The BW game was a week ago and I can't find any. I seem to recall them being available within a couple days of the actual game in previous years.

Anyway, while looking for them I looked at the previous title game highlights. Ballard was good but Borchert was amazing. Almost forgot about Adamson but he could sling it to. It was fun to reminisce watching VK, big Jason Hall, Campbell, Siriani, Knapp, Moore and Pugh, Golate, Smeck, Kmic...legends all.

Who from this Mount team will we still discuss 10, 20, ? years from now?

Here's a question for this OAC thread.  By a mile the best two HC openings in the
OAC would be Mount and JCU.  So what's the list after that?  Best jobs.  I nearly choked on my vomit but I painfully think BW has to be 3rd.  After that I'm going ONU then actually Ott if they could get a real HC (may have one now to be fair).  Today Berg is CLEARLY better than Ott but I think Ott is a better job for a good HC.

EADA and Collegefactual provides how much each University spends on a practically Sport.  Here are the numbers each University spent on Football in 2022. This takes into account Coaching Salaries and budgets. This is a very simple Google search if anyone want to check the numbers.  I have been tracking this for a few years and ONU numbers are up about $75k, but they also took an international trip last year. Mount Union's, JCU, and BW's numbers are Down from 2021 $834,398, $760,483, $622,074 respectively.  However, we have a clear-cut Top 4.

#1 Ohio Northern $896,006
#2 Mount Union $724,917
#3 John Carroll $632,541
#4 Baldwin Wallace $572,398
#5 Heidelberg $482,851
#6 Wilmington $462,909
#7 Muskingum $417,432
#8 Otterbein $414,524
#9 Capital $394,647
#10 Marietta $383,204

JCU also had an interim Head Coach in 2022 which might account for why they spent $125000 Less then 2021.

I know we'll remember Plunk. But if he doesn't win a title this year, we'll remember him for all the wrong reasons.

I think we'll remember Ruby. Especially if he makes the leap to Sundays.

I also thought Rossy Moore, but then I started thinking about guys like Justen Stickley and Mike Gibbons, guys like that who were incredible players but eventually blend in with the rest of the greats. But Rossy still has time.

+k Thanks for sharing, that's great info.  I think that data coincides with what most OAC fans would expect.  For years I've referenced the haves and the have nots and my line was basically anyone not named BW, JCU, Mount, ONU fell in the latter group.  The only one that mildly surprised me on this list was Wilm being as high as they are.  And it should also be mentioned that this data only further improves my opinion of Waddle and his staff.
