Getting ready to head to Mount for the pre-game brunch! Oh wait...I forgot that Coach Dartt cancelled my plans. Oh well I guess getting to the 2nd round is the new Standard we'll Champion. We can start hanging banners for "NCAA Football Round 2 Participant 2023". Thanks Coach. Let us know when you find the missing 85 pages from the playbook.

In all, hopefully, next week's games will be easier to watch/listen to for a {us} "wounded" {disgruntled} Mount Union alum(s)/fan(s).
Likely no more "...in the Mount Union game" references in the broadcast.

Alma still has time, "but miles to go before {they} sleep {win}."

Cortland State must be loaded with AA/NFL talent on offense

Something must be the reason that Cortland is 38 points (so far) better than Mount Union against Alma's defense.  (Yeah ... I know ... It is not that easily "defined.")

The Randy-Mac-Johnny Hop game was fun to watch amongst the six I followed this afternoon (the only one final, besides Oklahoma State-Texas which still has a quarter to play).

Tough season when you lose to the team who lost to the team, who will then lose to the team, that will then go on to lose to the winner of the Stagg Bowl. No winners, it appears, in the lineage this year.

So, to sum up... Humperdinck marry Buttercup in little less than half an hour. No wait . So Mount lost to the team (Alma), that lost to the team (Cortland), that will lose to the team (Hopkins), that will lose to NCC. So, using my Hiram math...#2 in the polls is still a possibility!!

You mean R-M, not Hopkins. :)

Right my bad. Too bad for Alma. Look I am ticked that Mount lost but if you're Alma, and the 800lb gorilla had a bad day (or you had a better day) you need to take advantage because Mount is what has stopped some good teams over the years from being great teams. Alma had their shot and maybe the stage was too big. Maybe Cortland would have won no matter who they played because they are that good. Who knows. Here is my big question though: if you are Dartt do you have your team watch the remaining games as a team activity? Make them hear the announcers talk about them not being there?

Dr. Acula

Cortland put up 58 points and 648 yds.  That's a really tough pill to swallow after 20 pts last week.  It is what it is.

I was wondering, who was the last team that beat Mount Union, and then poo-poo'd all over themselves the next week.
My quick check would suggest Ohio Northern in 2005 ... Beat the Purple Raiders in Alliance, 21-14, and then returned home to lose to the Capital CRUSADERS, 16-14.
However, that was a playoff Capital team that lost to Otterbein (???) and to Mount Union twice that year.
Interesting to see that Capital beat North Central and Wabash in the playoffs, and Otterbein finished 7-3 in 2005.
Times have changed, haven't they!

Rowan in 1999 might be a better choice.

Wayne Ruby pens a thank you letter to his family, coaches, teammates and Mount Union.  Thanks four Mount Union coaches by name...but one name seems to be missing...hmmm

D3fanboy,

I truly hope Wayne gets a shot in the NFL and even drafted. An invite to the Combine in Indy will be a key sign.
Regarding naming the Coaches, this comes as no surprise to me. ::)

Thanks for posting his farewell message+

I did some digging and have to admit I was unfair to Ruby regarding career records. I'd said previously that these records are inflated due to the extra covid year and should have an asterisk or something... However, Looking at career numbers the Covid season really didn't boost his stats as much as I thought.

Ruby played a total of 56 games as a purple raider amassing 5624 yards and 74 touchdowns. 56 games is the same exact number as Cecil Short's career.
Justin Hill played in 54 games and was behind Ruby by over 1,000 yards (4153 for his career and 61 TD)

And hypothetically a good enough player on one of the UMU teams that made it to the Stagg Bowl all 4 years could have played in 60 games.

So apologies for dismissing Ruby's records in a previous post. they are as impressive as advertised!

Pat Coleman

Don't know that Alma poo-poo'ed all over themselves. Probably a battle right down to the end if their QB isn't hurt in the second quarter.
