On a different note. What is wrong with the OAC football schedule. Why can't they just let rivalry games happen at the end of the season?

I was just looking ahead to 2024 and saw Mount plays JCU right out of the gate and BW the week after.

The Cuyahoga Gold Bowl will take place on October 19th and Otterbein plays Capital  on October 26th.

It cannot be that difficult to just let rivalry games happen in weeks 10 and 11.

The PAC has less wiggle room with scheduling than the OAC and they still manage to preserve rivalry games... I don't get it.

They Flip/Flop Home/Away each season, and then every two seasons they flip/flop the order in reverse.  Mount will Play JCU/BW in the beginning or end of the season (depending on the cycle).

Very Lazy.

IMO next season will be the true barometer on if Mount Union has lost the Kehres Luster.

They have to replace a lot of key players on both sides of the ball (offensively more than on defense) and really need to figure out what they are doing with OC and creative play calling.

Someone mentioned Chris Kappas as a possible solution.  He was a long time DC at Mount Union and when Coach Darrt went to WKU Kappas moved from DC to OC in 2017 and 2018.  They won the Stagg in 2017 and went 14-1 and lost to MHB 24-16 in the Stagg.

He won Offensive Coordinator of the year as a DC and OC at Mount Union and also was FootballScoop D3 Coordinator of the year in 2015.

But, he moved from Austin Peay to Lousiville HS, so maybe he wants to coach HS and have more family time.  There is probably more $ in Teaching/Coaching HS than D3 Coordinator.

It is about time the Mount's AD tell Dartt you need to hire a OC! Cannot understand why this was not done for the
2023 season. As a former player and long time season ticket holder, I am not sure I want to renew my seats for 2024.

I agree, 2024 will be a real barometer for the Raiders. W0nder how the recruiting will be after the playoff collapse?

Every year 2017 gets further into the past and you have to rely more on history than recency. The recruiting hook of "Every single class since 1993 has won a championship" was pretty darn powerful.

If there aren't adjustments in 2024, flaws in the offense / play calling will be exposed. Even though we could see that the offense had problems I'm sure a lot of it was overcome by having an elite QB and WR combo. Not gonna have that luxury next year (at least not at the same level of experience).

Also... being the biggest brand name in d3 football I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard of Mount Union embracing NIL more. Seems like that could be a big recruiting hook as well. I know D3 athletes don't have  a lot of notoriety  but hard to believe that no UMU alum business owners aren't interested in endorsement deals. Especially considering that Mount currently has a legit NFL prospect in Wayne Ruby on the roster.

They hired Junior Collins as OC but then he left for an NFL position IIRC. Probably didn't have time to find the right guy for the program at OC.

that flip/flop every 4 years is crazy.  Rotates right around Heidelberg/ONU.  That 2024 out of conference game is approaching very quickly for Mount to still be playing "TBA" in this era of SOS being such a huge playoff deal.

It was April -- not an ideal time to hire a coordinator. I could understand why they didn't choose to hire one.

Junior getting the Colts gig was not an overnight thing.

https://www.colts.com/news/2023-tony-dungy-diversity-fellowship-coaches-bryan-bing-junior-collins

QuoteThe Tony Dungy Diversity Coaching Fellowship was established by the Colts in 2022 to hire diverse and talented football coaches to full-time, year-long coaching positions, providing opportunities to gain valuable experience as they progress in their careers. Qualified candidates are evaluated and interviewed by a selection committee composed of Dungy, the Irsay family, general manager Chris Ballard, head coach Shane Steichen and other members of the Colts' coaching staff and football operations team.

Mount had plenty of time for a plan B at OC that wasn't the same old crap from the prior two seasons

That's fair. Will give you that.

Dartt needs to swallow a little pride and realize he can't do everything himself, hire an OC and MMFGA.

Just the need for another D3 Championship.

LK to VK might have had some genetic coaching connection but LK/VK to GD doesn't have that same connection. I am actually surprised that LK, who I see hovering around the sidelines and end zones every week, hasn't given GD more solid advice (read that--a Kick in the a$$). GD has had the players but the play calling has been vanilla at best.  A friend of mine told me that his nine year old daughter (who has been watching UMU football since she was little) was predicting (correctly) most of the offensive plays in the red zone while they were watching the quarter final game on live feed.

Sad.  I love UMU football, I want it to be successful, but....

LK's other daughter's name is Faith, which is what many of you need to have right now, Dartt winning % is .933!  For the record LK's winning % was .929 and was only .755 after his 1st 45 games.

If we hire an OC we need to look at Wartburg's OC and Mount Grad Luke Summers.  Assuming he isn't the next HC at ONU.
