This is really unreal, for most of the season I thought NCC was the most dominant D3 Team we'd seen in a decade... I thought they were head and shoulders above everyone else. I guess not. Way to go Cortland.

NCC thought so as well

IIRC Correctly Pat's quote was "they are head shoulders and torso above everyone else" or at least they'd been to that point in the season. Still can't wrap my head around this upset.

I mean the team that lost to Susquehenna and barely escaped Grove City was the ones to take them down?

With that run it's over.  Congrats to Cortland.  And yes every Mount fan, player and coach should be puking right now.

Geez... kind of a backhanded congratulations if you ask me... Mount got bounced in the 2nd round. It happens. Mount didn't belong in Salem this year. Period.

Cortland was written off by everyone the whole way. Good for them for proving everyone wrong.

Listen, if you win it on the field you have all the respect.  Cortland proved it on the field.  That's the great thing about D3.  They earned every bit of it.  But as a Mount fan it's nearly impossible to watch that game and not be upset w what could have been.  In the end Alma executed and Mount didn't.  And then Cortland executed and their opponents didn't.  Hat tip to the Red Dragons as that's a program defining win.  I love new blood in the discussion.

Not that it matters other than bragging rights, where does Mount Union end up in the final "D3 Football Top 25?"
Top 10?"
Amongst all the one loss teams?
Somewhere 8 to 11?
Behind Alma? [Shudder]

Dr. Acula

Should be behind Alma.  Results matter.

Period.

Someone is experiencing a feminine moment!   8-)
I bet on North Central, but my heart was behind Cortland.
K.C. Keeler hoped to be the Cinderella from the East, but remained "shadingly" close ... or a couple of touchdowns or official clock management [operator outcome] not so much.
It was a great [interesting] D3 football year.

Remember the online fight as to who should be #2 in 2013 aftermath?

Happy for Cortland.

Happy for D3.

Happy for Mount's legacy.

Hopeful for Mount's future.

In a year of D3 surprises, Cortland came through with a big win. A great offensive show came down to a key defensive
play. Don't quite agree that NCC was the most dominant team in the last 10 years, but they have been very good and
will be going forward. it will interesting to see if in 2024, the color purple shows up again. I would not bet against it.

Mount would have been run off the field by either of those teams
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The voice of reason puts in an appearance and hooray for that.  I find it hard to believe that Mount Union would have beaten either of those teams last night.  Very hard to believe.

That's what I was thinking, Mount didn't lose to Alma because of a bad luck, or fluke plays, they got straight up outplayed.

Well after last night clearly not!

But going into this game they had the all time D3 Passer efficiency rating, were approaching the single season scoring record and had probably the hardest path to the playoffs of any team in the last decade (well at least on paper). They were a huge outlier on all the computer rankings too, in Logan Hansen's ratings they had the highest score of any team since the 90s.

Mount would not have beaten either team this year, but why did they collapse in the playoffs? That is the question.
