I had a revealing conversation with an impeccable source on the Mount Union football team.
The offensive line is solid with returning starters. The running backs group is outstanding. A young man who played but did not start is predicted to "flash". Dawson? The quarterback position is, as always, open for competition. Two very talented freshmen are going to compete for the starting job. Obviously, Noah has the edge, but we all know the best guy plays and sometimes they both play.
The source says the defensive line is loaded with good players , the LB's are good and he singled out two DBs he thinks will star. The kicking game is in good shape but some talented freshman are expected to compete for both punter and placekicker. He said our long snapper was very good.

Purple,

Thanks for the info. I knew about the freshman QB from Painesville, but did not know about
another freshman. Noah Beaudrie will most likely be the starter, but the QB room is strong.
Any word on the Youngstown State transfer?

you hate to put the pressure on a kid, but Mikey Maloney sure looks like a right handed Micheli

Maybe Noah Beaudrie was the other freshman but he is a junior with two years of eligibility.

Did I hear or read something that Mount plans to play Grove City College in '25?  I was looking at the history of matchups on the website and they haven't played them since 1979.

I think offensively, Mount has always been very consistent both running and passing the ball.  Either one could take over a game, forcing every defense to try and contain one, rather try to make them one-sided.  I think Alma did a good job at taking away any passes downfield forcing the short passes and putting Mount to change their game plan.    Even with runners like Kmic and Nemeth, they always found a way to spread the ball around.  I think over the last so many years, the offense has become more one sided as a passing.  I'm encouraged by the sounds of a talented backfield, with a little more size.  Hopefully, they can do a few more off tackle type of runs that show remnants of the 2010's run game.  Of course, though, when your QB has the ability and the willingness to pull it down and run for big gains, that changes everything.  Forcing defenses to bring safeties up, or use a person to spy, or just change their game plan to account for 1 athlete,  that can be a great advantage

The Raiders over the last 4 years have become one dimensional and been too predictable during that time. A dual threat QB and some size at RB this year will be great to break the the passing always paradigm. The coaches have to change their approach as well since the playing calling has been very unimaginative during that period. Looking forward to some changes in approach in 2024,but you need the players to get back to that Mount Union tradition.

Yeah he could give Beaudrie a run for the starting job, 2x all Ohio is pretty impressive. Glad he de committed from "D1" Dayton

Getting Micheli (a MUC Mount Rushmore QB) comparisons without even taking a snap. Some would say that is audacious but the info I am getting is you might be on the right track and the sky is the limit for young Mikey.

My money is on Maloney to be the starter. Heard a rumor, not sure how true it is, that there is a chance QB1 and QB2 for the Raiders will both be Freshmen and both play a lot.

In terms of the team, my biggest concerns are WR & CB. Need to find some playmakers at each of those spots to have a legitimate shot at Amos.

pretty sure Deuce Parker is back at one of the CB spots, but hopefully having Rossy, Brown, Factor back up front can generate enough pass rush to help find the other CBs throughout the season and having 3 starting safeties back can assist on the back end

WR is a different story.  Turner looks like a nice option in the slot.  Radford is a big body on the outside that had a couple good games before being injured.  Not having a sure fire #1 (PG, Cecil, Jasper, Namdar/Taurice, Hill, Ruby) will be interesting, but someone will step up.  Mount is always loaded at WR, there is a specific freshman that will be very, very interesting

despite the questions about coaching & playcalling, I doubt Mount has forgotten how to recruit in the past couple of years.  There will be lots of very talented kids finally fighting for playing time this year
