Quote from: Desertraider on September 14, 2024, 11:33:36 PMImpressive win for the Raiders, I mean Rockets tonight! Candle, Kehres, Hallet, and Watson head to Starkville and dominate Mississippi State!

Have to think Candle will be on the shortlist for the Florida Gators. Curious if VK would go, or step into Toledo HC role.

Isn't a HC at D1 the reason VK left Mount? Why would he follow someone else to another school? Was never a VK supporter but I hope he gets a shot at a D1 HC when it comes.

Coordinator at a d1 P5 school is a better job than a MAC HC. Candle is the top paid MAC coach at 1.1 million which is at or below Floridas current defensive coordinator. I think it'd be tough to turn down a true big time job in the SEC to stay in the MAC (whose bottom schools couldn't beat Mount Union today)

I watched the Mount Union JVs play Lead Acadamy Sunday. Lead had some really good players on defense. Mount's offense and QB Number 10 had a good taste of college football.

This may be old news, but it is new to me. Is BW's QB Charlie Bubonics the son of the great Ed Bubonics? Wonder how he wound up choosing the steaming pile over MUC.

Funny you mention this because last weekend I went on the BW roster specifically to see if it listed his parents.  It did not.  But he went to Solon which leads me to believe it may be.  The age of the kid too.  Maybe it's a nephew, but I can't imagine there are a ton of Bubonics running around.

QuoteCharlie Bubonics, the son of former Mount Union standout receive Ed Bubonics, completed 20 of 26 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns as Baldwin Wallace renewed an old rivalry with Wittenberg and came away victorious by a fairly old-school score, winning 24-14. The teams have now evenly split 43 all-time meetings with each winning 21 games to go with one tie. The teams, which faced each other in the 1978 Stagg Bowl, last met in 1999.

Indeed, I did some searching and found stories online about Charlie that referenced this, so I included it when writing last week's recap.

Last year the Raiders won at JCU 49-14. We'll see the spread this year, anyone have a prediction?

despite the tail tucking, JCU will be fighting for their season.  Mount will come out with no energy and be going through the motions early.  JCU goes up early in the 1st 10-0, the D3FB experts will be incredibly excited.  But then Mount regroups and wins 41-10

D3Fanboy,

I am hoping for Raider energy, but I see where you are coming from. It starts with the HC, but that is a subject for a different day. ::)

I was surprised last year was as lopsided as it was, but I think this year could be the same.  I'd really like to see some consistency and execution.  One of the plays that has been absent is the 12-15 yard out route.  High percentage and nearly impossible to defend with timing and accuracy.

I liked much of what I watched in the Ferrum game, however, there always seems to be let downs or just poor execution at different times in the games.  When the team is on they're really good.  When they're not...

I'd like to see LB's plugging holes and making tackles on first hit.
I'd like to see out routes and slant patterns.
I'd like to see some domination from the O line.

Also replacing guys like Plunk and Ruby are not automatic.  Plunk did a lot of things right and Ruby of course was a monster.  Their replacements are on this team, it might just take a big (last) Rivalry game to bring it out.

JCU will not be able to deal with the speed of the Mount Union backs and receivers and the sophistication of the passing attack. I expect you will see a lot of short passes and a robust running game. QB Noah B. is a hell of an athlete and is going to break some long gains if they let him run. The backup QB is also an excellent player and I expect to see him play. I think the Raiders come out hot and put a real pasting on JCU, who will be fortunate not to get shut out.

Dr. Acula

What is this sophistication of the passing attack you speak of?  I kid.  But I do wish I had purple's confidence.  I always have some nerves going into a JCU game no matter what.  I think Mount should handle them so I'm not *as* nervous, but I can't help but talk myself into it being a tight game somehow every year.  "Well, it's only Beaudrie's second start and JCU is always tough on D."  "It's JCU's last shot at Mount so they're going to be amped up to go out with a win."  My nerves were for nothing last year.  I hope they're equally as pointless this year!
