If they want to make a big game atmosphere, it would be game 1 vs Wheaton next year.  It generally stupid hot/humid for the first week, so a night game would be great.  But Wheaton would probably prefer to bus in the day before and leave after the game rather than bus in day of game and stay the night. Grove City in '26 at home should 100% be a night game, if the GCC kids are allowed to be out past sundown

Speaking of game times and helmets, Mount needs to beat Capital this weekend by 8-10 TD's whether they kickoff at noon, 3:00 or midnight and Mount could wear purple, white or tie-dyed helmets.  The post game "it was the play calling" or "we need to execute better" excuses cannot happen anymore in November or the season will end in November once again.  It's beyond time to lock in, dominate a far inferior opponent and let the backups play the 2nd half. 35/42-0 at the half should be expected

Marietta has founds it way to the mainstream in the form of the CFB Reddit. Several of the comments make reference to Marietta, GA, which is fun.

Did enjoy reading a few of the Dante Brown comments.

Quote from: BergAlum2 on October 27, 2024, 02:04:37 AM12 years ago, I say its about time to schedule another one!  Thats a lot of players who have spent four years and graduated, without ever having a night game on campus.  Night games always were my favorite to attend, something about the atmosphere of being under the lights makes it better, especially if its a shootout game.

Well at least we do get a few OAC night games a year.  Seems to be the same teams who are scheduling them: HU, ONU, MUSK, CAP, WILM, & OTT.  I wish there were more, imagine Mount vs JCU under the lights or undefeated Mount vs undefeated Marietta this year at 7pm.  I'm sure the students would be fans of them, but probably not with the older fans.  The one big perk for me is I can do things Saturday afternoon without missing games.

I remember my senior year in 2012 we scheduled our game against Mount as a night game, and it was the last game of the season. They were not happy about that lol

Why? I know we don't schedule them usually but not reason the team would be inherently unhappy to play under the lights. Not to mention at that time every player was used to night games considering the Decade run of Stagg Bowls
To my understanding, it was because it was the last game of the season and they thought it was an unnecessary move used just to inconvenience them. Bear in mind, I did hear that from the coaching staff, so they could have made it up as a reason to fire the team up lol

Night games on cold November nights are less fun than September  ;D

I seem to remember Mount Union playing Marietta at night when Freshman BJ Mitchell score they final TD to win by like 84-7. BJ Mitchell was so good!

That was after the Marietta Football players were disrespectful to the Mount Basketball players/team in the OAC tournament the year before. Mount had a bone to pick with the Pioneers.

Pretty solid slate I would say!
It's good that Mount was left out of the OAC/HCAC scheduling thing because not only would that have been not fair to whichever poor HCAC team got stuck with them, but that would have probably been a hit to their SOS

kind of flies in the face of the (incorrect) national narrative pushed that Mount never schedules anybody out of conference, and now there is even more incentive to only schedule cupcakes

Yep, starting in 2025 those criticisms will have to wane.

pretty sure 2021 had a playoff participant (Westminster) as OOC - COVID took away the game in 2020, '18-19 - Rose Hulman - pretty much the #2 HCAC team during that era, '12-13 had conference champ (Franklin), '10-11 had UW-Oshkosh, '08-09 St John Fisher was a playoff team/near playoff team, '04-05 was Wash U, who you guys love pumping up as some sort of fantastic opponent, '02-03 was UWW, 00-01 Allegheny was a strong opponent coming off a stretch of being the top NCAC program, 98-99 was Albion a few years removed from a national title.

have there been some stinkers? sure.  But to act like Defiance and Ferrum are typical OOC opponents for Mount is wrong and you know that.  Most, nearly all, were two-year contracts scheduled years in advance and when the PAC shut down OOC a monkey wrench was thrown into things.  Who are all of these OOC powers that Mount should have been scheduling? that are within driving range?  Mount's not flying to TX, MN or OR, etc

If the PA schools are off the board, the teams in IN probably dont move the needle for you, no chance that a non-OAC OH school would schedule Mount, who's left?  I think that Mount would love to do a home-and-home with the MIAA schools, but it takes two to tango.  Are they scared of scheduling teams from the Northeast? c'mon.

It seems to me that when A) the PAC opened up, B) Mount had openings (due to JCU) C) Mount shows signs of "weakness", there were quality opponents lining up...weird

I remember the Averett OOC series. Woof.

Pat Coleman

Even so, that's the No. 2 in the HCAC.

And no, Westminster has not made the NCAA Division III playoffs yet.

Also, D -- two or three years ago lots of top-quality D-III teams started lining up to play each other in non-conference. Good to see Mount Union join the trend. And are you really comparing 2004-2005 Wash U to current day Wash U? At least make a genuine argument and spare us the BS.

Averett actually finished 1st in their conference in '06....

Pat Coleman

Finished tied for first and lost the tiebreaker. The conference champ then lost in the first round at home to W&J.
