Hell of a game and comeback victory for Mount!

A Raider victory led by the backup QB when behind in the second half probably hasn't happened since Wable was the head coach.

Any idea who the backup QB would be if DeShields goes down?

Quote from: Dr. Acula on November 09, 2024, 04:38:29 PMThat was a hell of a throw and catch by Deshields and Sanders.  In real time I didn't think Sanders got his foot down but he somehow did on the replay.  Great job by him.

Credit to the defense for stiffening when they absolutely needed to get stops in the 4th.

And credit to Deshields for stepping into that game in that situation and getting it done.  Hopefully that's a confidence booster going forward because they're gonna need him now.

Last but certainly not least, that long TD run by Echeverry is exactly what star players do there.  They were reeling, they were without Beaudrie and he rips off a huge TD run to give them the lift they needed then.  He seems like he just has another gear on those long runs.  Consistently outruns the angle.

Wow, Doc ... You pretty much summed that up exactly for me.
-  Watching all replays available, there was no way to get less of a foot (toe) in less of the end zone than what young Mr. Sanders did.  Kudos, my Dude!!!
-  The defense both made me shield my eyes and stand and cheer in the second half ... mostly stand and cheer ... eventually.
-  First possession with Mr. Deshields was "WTF?"  Eventually, got balanced, and the end [game] result that we see.  But... four [bad to ugly] incomplete passes before giving it to Echeverry?  Who is calling the plays from the sidelines?  Most respectful to Mr. Deshields, and particularly Mr. Sanders, for making this game a classic.

BREAK/BREAK ... Two old-time "Purple Powers" to be gone from the playoffs ... UMHB and the scourge of the earth from 'Skonsin.

I feel like the Mount Union certainly showed something today. Marietta is definitely a solid team with good line play and a QB that throws a great ball. Their receivers were physical and made plays. From watching the replay, it didnt look like the QB made the endzone on the 4th and goal play. Did others see that as well or was I just wishful thinking?

The Mount defense stepped up, they got pressure, sacks, pass breakups, etc. The dline and Leibler (freshman CB) stood out. He made some big time reads and tackles.

You're down in a game vs a good team, you're starting QB is out, get a point blocked..... but you create a turnover, score, hold and score again.

Like Cortland, UWW, UMHB, UWO (currently losing) found out today, just win! By one point or 14 points. Get better every day, get healthy, beat Muskingum next week and prepare for the playoffs!

that first round bye in the playoffs could be huge for the Raiders.  Get past Muskie next week and have a few weeks to get Deshields ready to go.  Ball control with the running game and solid defense seems like the formula for Mount this postseason.  TJ has the arm talent and athletic ability (former D1 @ Akron and D2 @ Sul Ross St) and his maturity should be a plus moving forward, pretty sure that he graduated high school about a decade ago.

Sucks to see Beaudrie go down with a non-contact injury.  Kid sacrificed a lot to come back and be a Raider, hopefully it is not as bad as it looked

Finally started throwing to Sanders.  The guy was big last year at times, but has few targets this season. Why? I think Beaudrie likes Turner, fine, but Sanders can be a game breaker as he showed in the 4th quarter.  I am told that backup Mikey Maloney broke his ankle, but can't trust source. De Shields stepped up big after starting 0 for 5...Some experience next week for him will mean a lot if needed down the road.  I am a HUGE Raider fan, but I thought that Marietta was as good, and could have easily won.  Liebler the frosh DB is a future All American, and poor Cook had to cover that quick out pattern, nearly impossible the way the Pioneers ran it. I hope we do not see them in the 2nd round as I think they will be ready and able.  Speaking of the Mount mystique, it is gone, IMO. They are not feared any longer, and they have not done much to earn a great deal of respect. I agree that a 2nd round or 3rd round game may be the best we can hope for, but will be there cheering.

I wondered where Maloney was for the past couple of weeks. Hopefully he heals if true. You could tell Sanders was frustrated in the 2nd half when he read getting open regularly, but not seen. I hope Beaudrie is OK, but non-contact injuries are never a good sign. The Oline will need to continue to get push and give time, while Deshields feels his way back in game shape. The defense started getting more pressure today with some blitzing, which is a must. Marietta QB just kept putting his throws on a great spot for his WR only to catch.

Other than NCC right now, everyone looks beatable in D3.

Mount wins close = Mount is no longer a power program

Mount loses = The aura is completely dead

Big day in A-Town.

You can't call it A-Town when we've got Austintown like 40 minutes away!

The Raiders are still a top notch D3 program, but their swagger under LK has faded.  The other teams, IMO, used to enter the stadium with an air of resignation and timidity. I don't see that. Our fans, who confidently looked to make Stagg reservations, now are hoping.  I think this is a natural process of erosion after being on the very peak for so very long, it has happened to everyone. We, as fans, got spoiled, now we have to support them while they work to get back to the acme.

I was at the game and saw Beaudrie with a heavily iced knee. I think it's the DeShields show the rest of the way.

I have lived many places - 7 states, 2 countries- but was born and raised in Ohio. I have heard of Austintown but this is the first time i can recall anyone actually saying "Austintown" in a conversation. I will take Alliance as A-Town. Austintown can be
A-notherTown 😁

Chase Copper got into the Wilmington game at QB. All handoffs I believe

I fully expect Beaudrie to be listed as the starting QB with Deshields as the backup on the Mount game notes this week

I was in attendance at the game against Etta yesterday. What happened with the personal foul sideline interference call? Did he just run into the crowd at the end of Mounts bench, or did someone take him out? He was down for quite a bit. I haven't seen that call since Woody Hayes.
I do know one thing, 103 yards in penalties doesn't help win games.

On the Video Feed it looked like he ran into one of the Mount Union Coaches.  The coach was dressed in Black Sweats and had a Florescent Yellow hat and Headset.  Sideline interference.
