Mount will adjust to a new quarterback. Obviously, he is a pocket passer. Mount's mantra has always been, "players, formations, plays." He's a tall quarterback with good arm. That was an excellent coaching job by the Purples staff in the second half.
Marietta played a hell of a game. I can't remember more good catches by opposing receivers.

Happy to see the Mount game was still on the OAC website tonight, gave the game a speedy watch.  Marietta gave Mount a run for their money, before Mount got the go-ahead score, I do wonder, Marietta was driving and past midfield, if they hadn't of held, putting them far behind the sticks maybe they would have gotten the first down and maybe got in field goal range, milking the clock.

I hope Marietta is able to pull off a win this week against JCU.  I think they could very well lose this one though; But I want the Blue Streak's last OAC game to be a L, with the win I'm assuming Marietta's NPI score should give them a playoff game

Onward on, John Carroll

Not nice!! :D

Is it safe to assume with the current NPIs that Etta is in if it wins and JCU is out regardless?

I'm pretty sure that's what they said in this week's Podcast.

Current NPI:
6  Mount Union
27 Marietta
50 John Carroll

I think the cut line is around 35 or 36 due to Automatic Bids by teams lower on the NPI ratings.

I'm proud of the Mount team for facing some pretty major adversity and still coming out with WIN!!!  Marietta had a great game plan and executed well.  #1 for Marietta dropped nothing all game.  He was tough to defend and really kept his team alive on some drives.

Marietta -

I think they're a good team and deserve a shot at the playoffs with a win next week.  I think they can do it.
I think they sold out to stop the run against Mount and it worked for most of the game.
Their QB is is really good.
Their defensive line is really good.

Mount -

Echeverry is really good.  He has a burst that into and through the hole that is super fast.

Mount's O line is really good.  They offered good protection and kept driving all game.  See above note.

FWIW DeShields might throw the ball better the beaudrie.  With the running backs as good as they are, a more pure passer may be what this team needs.

I have been feeling all along that we are missing some game control passing.  10-15 yard in routes and out routes.  I still think this team is a run first team, but one of the things that has always kept Mount great is the ability to move the chains.  I think hitting a 12 yard pass on 1st down from your own 20, at will, is terrible thing to face as an opposing defense.  It keeps safties out of the box, it makes LB's take a step back.  It opens screens and draws.  It also opens double moves and play action.

I think that Mount is still an excellent team and is definitely one to measure against.  If Marietta can keep pace with Mount Union, they can keep pace with any team in the nation.  They may not win, but they can compete on the highest level in this division.

The blocked punt was concerning.  The kickoff coverage was amiss.

I liked the blizting and the pressure on the QB.  Now just change up the coverage sometimes so the hot read is so apparent.  2 weeks in a row that Roland #28, had a sack.  He's pretty gpod at that.  The timing and the tackling.

K Brown and R Moore are very tough defend.  I woulnd't mind seeing them on the same side of the line at some point.  Just to throw some teams off.

According to Logan Hansen on the podcast, Marietta is a virtual lock with a win, and John Carroll would be about 3 out of 4 chance if they win. They would definitely fall into the last two teams in/first two teams out range

Any word on Beaudrie? I just watched the game replay. On the last play of half he goes down and grabs at left knee (or at least left leg). But watch the run he had 2 plays before (it was negated by a penalty). He gets tackled by the left ankle and comes up limping - it was an awkward looking tackle. He could have aggravated something and it gave out when he took off. It doesnt help him - but maybe explains a bit more.

On the other hand - TOO MANY PENALTIES! Way too many deadball penalties. I cant recall ever seeing that from a Mount team. Have to clean that up. Last thing - can we get the Marietta play caller to join the Raider staff? They ran everything!

makes you wonder if we'll see Echeverry/Thomas get some looks in the wildcat a la Petruccelli back in the day.  Beaudrie had a very large portion of Mount's goaline/short yardage this season.  A wildcat package with Echeverry, Thomas and Williams in the backfield seems like it could cause some issues for defenses.  Or maybe we'll just see the 6-5 pocket passer run the RPO game

You're making me feel old, "back in the day" when Petro ran the wildcat was 2018 and 2019!

Also chances of this are slim considering our HC lack of creativity on offense. The only time I've seen a hint of innovation was when they went to a double tight end set during the 2022 Stagg Bowl

I like some of the stuff they've done with all three backs in a "reverse wishbone" formation this year.

They've also done some creative stuff with RB swing motion and throwing the ball downfield.

Dr. Acula

If Deshields hasn't been practicing a lot of RPO all season I wonder if we'll see some different looks this week.  After the game he even said in the interview he needed to calm down when he got in the game.  Once he did he threw the ball well.  Maybe we'll see them push the ball downfield a little more.

D3fanboy

I'd love to see Mount throw the ball around the yard this week.  Keep the RB's healthy, get TJ some game reps/rhythm/confidence.  The whole saving plays for later and keeping them off of film hasn't exactly worked for the past 5 years.  Put it all out on film, make the opponent prepare for all of it.

I don't think that anyone questions the Mount Union offensive staff's ability to be creative, it's more a question of if they will call a creative gameplan or use the same plan over and over and over

Looks like this Jason Grimes Kidd started at Augustana before coming to mount as a grade student. Anyone know anything about him. And I thought if healthy Maloney was the back up. He's more like Noah with a good arm and also can run it.

Anxiously awaiting the Weekly Game Notes for the depth chart.

Maloney got the 2nd team stats early in the season.

Beaudry:  9 Games 110/159 1780 yds
Maloney: 3 Games 4/8 42 yds
Deshields: 5 games 14/26 181 yds

Maloney also has 11 carries for 121 yards
