With all this online learning nonsense students get now, there is no way they are receiving the same education as having to actually attend class in both high school and college.

If you were a kid would you spend the 7 hours or so learning like you had to do in person or spend the least amount of time possible behind the computer and then go do what you really want to do?

Just spitballing here. 😂

I don't buy it. I coach HS Football in FL and our defensive calls are probably more complex than most college defenses and our kids handle it.

If your kids are bought in, they can learn it.

Running out of reasons why Dartt doesn't open up the playbook and continues to run the same 3 run plays and same 3 pass plays over and over and over again and again and again. . . .

Because he isn't a good coach. There, I figured it out for you.

Not the best start for Marietta.  They had their punt blocked for a TD, also had a fumble on their side of the field that led to a FG, now its 16 to 6 with Westminister leading 7 mins left.

I dont think Mounts issues are player related. Mount has all the talent they need. Its coaching. To address a previous poster:
No. I dont know what it takes to go 10-0.
But I do know that for the last 30+ years Mount Union has a history of making great teams seem average, good teams mediocre, and average teams - well Hiram. For the last 5 Mount has looked good and they have looked average - but they look lazy. It isnt that players cant learn the playbook - are we really even considering that? - the formations and plays have not changed. Nothing has changed. Look at Mounts offense from 2017 and everything is the same. LK always said that systems dont work - players, formations, plays - you have to change the system to fit what you have. If this was still being done - why has the offense (and defense) not changed? Not even a little.

Oh and no offense intended, but "MSJ could win...". Um no. Not a chance.

Clearly. But we spent years underestimating MSJ and then they took Wheaton down to the wire last year, so we afforded them a modicum of extra respect. Then predicted these scores:

Greg's take: John Carroll 42, Mount St. Joseph 21
Patrick's take: John Carroll 42, Mount St. Joseph 15
Frank's take: John Carroll 37, Mount St. Joseph 21
Logan's take: John Carroll 49, Mount St. Joseph 24
Riley's take: John Carroll 38, Mount St. Joseph 17
Mike's take: John Carroll 48, Mount St. Joseph 14

Watching the JCU/MSJ game yesterday, it was clear to me that JCU is much improved from the first meeting with Mount Union.  Considering their motivation, improvement, and Mount's consistent inconsistency, it will take Mount Union's best game of the year to move on.  Hopefully the Raiders will a great performance and quiet some naysayers.  Looking forward to a great crowd, early weather, 30's and clear.

JCU is no doubt improved from week two.  But there have been a few personnel changes in the Mount defense since then as well.  Aside from the abysmal tackling display at Muskie, I think that they are better set up to defend JCU than in game two.

JCU attacked CB Manny Curtis over and over.  That was his first game replacing Deuce Parker and he has since been replaced by Liebler, Curtis in fact rarely plays these days.  Mount was starting the big, run stuffer Cramer in at DT, while he still is in the rotation, Jackson Harris has been moved into the starting spot and gives the Raiders a more athletic front.  Finally, John Klump was pretty much a non-factor at the LB spot early in the season and has been replaced by Jazz Jackson.

As everyone knows, it comes down to energy and consistency for Mount.  JCU pretty much abandoned the run game and pioneered the dink-and-dunk attack vs Mount this season.  If that stays true on Saturday, it will be important for Kaleb Brown and Rossy Moore to get pressure/hits on the JCU QB.  The Raiders have been bend-but-don't-break defense nearly all season, but I think they'll need to dial up the pressure a little bit.

And just kick and make the extra points.  Instead of two weird two-point attempts and a missed XP, the Raiders could have used those three points and been up 12 late in the 4th qtr and JCU wouldn't have been able to kick a late FG to make the score look better.

Offensively, Mount ran all over, around, through JCU in the first meeting.  With the cold (and likely wind), I'm sure that they would like to do the same.  It'll be interesting to see which, if either, offense changes up what worked so well for them in the first matchup.

Ok calling Mounts D "bend but dont break" completely ignores Otterbein, Muskingam, Marietta, and the first game against JCU. Plenty of bend and a lot of breaking. And while JCU took advantage of Curtis and Cramer had issues and Klump was a non-factor - can we truly say the replacements are an upgrade? They were manhandled by Marietta (who was destroyed by JCU and didnt fare well in their bowl game), manhandled by Otterbein, and pushed around by the Muskies.
I get looking on the upside on the changes since their last meeting - but lets not ignore that it hasnt changed much.
I LOATHE JCU. I despise them with every fiber of my being - going all the way back to debate club and Model UN when I was an undergrad at Hiram. However, I dont feel good (at all) about the next Raider v. Streak matchup. Thank god - my wine club shipped me a case of wine for the holidays. I have a feeling I may need it.
