well, they scored at will on what the D3 "analytics" told me was one of the greatest D3 defenses of the modern era. "rarified air" and "best in a decade" I believe were thrown around.

Play with poise, limit negative plays and turnovers and don't piss down your leg at the start of the game a la Susquehanna and '22 Stagg Bowl will be key.  Can't get into a big hole against NCC.  Make it a physical game, drag them out into deeper waters and see if they can swim.  This Mount squad has a knack for not flinching in big moments.

There is literally next to zero pressure on the Raiders in Houston.  NCC is the greatest superpower ever seen in D3 led by the quarterback who invented college football.  Their five year stretch is something that has never been seen before and definitely was not aided a great deal by a pandemic.  Five straight Stagg Bowls?!?!? I mean come on, that's unheard of.  They will probably keep that up for 10, maybe 11 straight years. "Red is the new Purple"
Both programs will have the utmost respect for one another. Should be a great game.

To MU football historian or any D3 football historian,
Luke Lehnen is scheduled to start at Qb in his 4th consecutive stagg bowl. Is he in rarified air or has this been done before?

What analytics? Massey and Logan had them as #1 D in the country but not sure about all this "best of the era talk" talk.

Well it might be unheard of to you - but Mount and UWW both did it from 2005-2011 - together, at the same time - like against each other. So "unheard of" may be a stretch. In fact not only did Mount and UWW play in 7 straight Stagg Bowls, Mount Union played in 11 straight Staggs (2005-2015), stayed home a year and then played in 2 more. So that makes 13 in 14 years.

NCC is a great team - but they have a ways to go before hitting those marks. Oh and Mount also had coaches that STAYED. We will see how NCC does when bigger schools start calling.

I don't think any MTU QB started in 4 straight Stagg Bowls.  Augustana won 4 straight in the 1980s.  I don't know if they had the same QB for all four.

I would bet Luke is the first.

NCC has been a dominant football team. I checked the season records for NCC on D3Football which went back to 1998. Over that period of time they have won an impressive 78% of their games with 239 wins against 66 loses

Mount Union has been dominate as well winning 96% of their games during the same time period with 345 wins against 16 losses.

With Mount Union being up 106 less wins during that time period on NCC and me being 68 I doubt I'll be around when NCC passes Mount Union in wins.

Oh and Fanboy-

" Their five year stretch is something that has never been seen before and definitely was not aided a great deal by a pandemic"

Mount wasn't aided by a pandemic - AT ALL. Mount WAS the pandemic. I think its time for Mount to inflict a bit of Purple Raideritis. Its a rare strand of bird flu that targets Cardinals.

I totally agree Desertraider time to take care of the last bit of unfinished business and bring the Walnut and Bronze back home where it belongs!!

Those Augustana teams employed multiple quarterbacks during their 1983-86 championship run.  Defensive tackle Lynn Thomsen started every game during that run and graduated with a 49-0-1 w-l record and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.  The one tie was 0-0 versus Elmhurst in the 1986 season opener.  Augustana started the 1987 season 10-0 before losing to Dayton in the playoffs. The 60-game unbeaten streak remains a record across all divisions of college football.

I'd be more interested in how they stack up over the last 20 yrs instead (when NCC finally turned the corner into being a "good" team) through 2024. MUC certainly would still be ahead but maybe a little less lopsided.
