Quote from: Dr. Acula on January 09, 2025, 07:18:12 PMAnd that was very quick.  Do we think that may mean he was healthy enough to play and Dartt stuck with DeShields?  For the record I do not blame Dartt if that's what happened.  TJ was playing well.

Beaudrie looked to be limping quite a bit on and off the field during the JHU game, but who really knows.

Hopefully it's more that Maloney looked great in practice and has the coaches' full confidence going into '25.

'25 seems to be a pivotal year for Mount and their current HC.  It ramps up quick with Wheaton and Grove City to start...

It certainly seemed that Beaudrie was frustrated with his knee during the playoff games. He could run straight forward, but appeared to be in pain and struggle with any side to side running. As much as I loved Beaudrie, I felt it was the right move to go with the healthy Deshields.

Either Maloney is the guy or hopefully there's a transfer coming in. There seemed to be a talented group that was recruited, so hopefully they pan out.

I didn't realize Maloney was such a stud in HS, 2X all state, a lot of Preferred Walk on interest from FBS schools and some non scholarship FCS offers. Pretty impressive resume

I know it's just highlights, but if you look at Maloneys HS tape, he makes some incredible plays and it was against some of the better, big school football teams in Ohio. Let's see if that translates to college. You could see his talent when he was in the game with his arm and legs, but he appears to need more coaching on reading the defense... which I would expect of any freshman.

My worry going into next year would be replacing this great Oline and the experienced Dline (Factor, Moore).

Does anyone know if Maloney is healthy now?
Thomas coming back for another year?
Cooper is a nice WR to return, but others will need to step up.
DBs MUST improve.

Possibilities are there for another fun season, but the first 2 out of conference games are going to be tough.

OL - Gio will be back and should be a lock to be first team AA, only a high ankle sprain in the Stagg. Somehow, Mason Fortner still has eligibility at C. Lilly is for sure out of eligibility, Cagne and Burress likely are as well.  The OL eligibility is a little more difficult to track

DL - Kaleb Brown is back and should be a DPOY contender.  Jackson Harris will be back on the interior.  Nobody is replacing Rossy Moore and Von Factor in one year.  I could see Findlay transfer Calvin Gore (Benedictine) getting slotted into Moore's Bandit spot.

Maloney had a broken ankle, he's fine.  could have played in the postseason if needed

Shaun Thomas was listed as a redshirt sophomore by UC in '23, so I would assume that he was a redshirt junior this year despite being listed as a senior.  In today's world of college football, who knows if he'll be back.  Kayden Minner is the next "guy" at HB

Jerry Cooper and Nick Turner both should return.  I saw a transfer "announcement" from a first team ALL-CCIW WR (Jacob Cockrell - Elmhurst).

DB's - I wonder if Deuce Parker will be applying for a medical waiver, losing your senior season to an injury in the first game is a tough way to go out.  Liebler looks solid at one CB, Weston Arthur will be back at SPUR.

Tiny bit surprising Beaudrie bounced so quickly. What a strange career he had at Mount. Probably best for everyone involved. Will be fun to see if/how he plays at his new home.

That being said, I am beyond ready to clear out the QB room and start fresh. Feels like its been years since we have had that true killer at QB who can go out and win you a game (and yes I am including Plunk in this thought). Even with Fulford who was undoubtedly a great QB, I just never felt that juice the Burkes, Michelis, Borcherts of the world provided.

From everything I am hearing, Maloney might be just what the doctor ordered.

Can't hate that.  He had at least one reception of 40+ yds in six of their games.  815 yds, 9 TD and 23 yds/rec for the season.  Looks like a welcome addition to me.

I totally agree with this QB assessment. I've only been following Mount since 2009 so my scope is more limited but  I thought Plunk and Fulford were both really good QBs and obviously extremely talented, but didn't quite single-handedly elevate the program like I saw Burke do. It felt like he willed a sub-par 2013 team to the Stagg Bowl, and won games against more talented teams. I think Scott could have been in that great category as well but there was so much talent on that 2015 roster it's hard to see his impact alone.

Taurice was 100% that kind of player.  Mount has been incredibly talented over the past 5 years or so, but they have severely lacked that "killer instinct" or haven't "played with an edge" or whatever coach speak you want to say.  Gio Kennedy and Kaleb Brown are two of the few that have that swagger/attitude on the field, "dawgs" if you will. hopefully their senior leadership over the offseason will contribute to a renewed energy within the program

According to FootballScoop.com UWW is looking for a new OC:

UW Whitewater (D-III): The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is taking applications for their Offensive Coordinator opening. A master's degree is required, prior coordinating/play calling and quarterback coaching experience is preferred. This is a full-time position with benefits and there are teaching responsibilities. If you are attending the AFCA Convention please include that in your email.

I saw Maloney play a few times in hs. His# 1 wr from that team also is at mount. Didn't play varsity this past season I don't think but he was really good from what I saw. Marino type hands.

Mount Union picks up a commitment from former Avon 1st team All-OH LB Gavin Ehrhardt.  Went to UC to play baseball and then to a JUCO.  Now back to football at Mount.  5-11 215

I'll take any stud out of Elder's program regardless of when.  He's a ball coach.  You know his guys are coached up.

no doubt.  Ehrhardt was a LB/power RB in his Avon days.  His low 90's lefty fastball brought the big schools in, but he was also an OF with a 6.8 60 (4.5 40).  I'll take that every day at Mount, I doubt that he got less athletic while being a D1 athlete.

sounds like he'll have 4 years eligibility as a 21 year old...modern college athletics baby

raiderfan288

I had a question about eligibility and some of the redshirt rules these days. As an example the following is listed for Tyler Echeverry:

2024 - This season

2023: All-OAC Second Team... Ran for 602 yards and 11 touchdowns (career-highs)... Averaged 6.4 yards per carry... Posted a career-high 114 rushing yards against Baldwin Wallace.

2022: Played in 14 games, including a start in the 2022 Stagg Bowl... Ran for 417 yards off 81 attempts and two touchdowns (all career-highs)... His 85-yard run against Utica in the NCAA Playoffs ranked fifth-longest in program history... Posted first career 100-yard game against Utica.

2021: Played in two games in first year.

Given the player only plays in two games (under the 4 game max) his first year, does that automatically qualify him for a redshirt and could come back for another year? Not sure he would even have a desire to in this scenario, however I am just curious on the eligibility rules these days.

D3football all region soph WR Davion Grant is coming north to Mount from Muskie

1100 yards 8 TD in 10 games this year.

9-130 vs Mount
9-120 vs JCU

Is the OAC transfer rule out the window since Muskie's coach left?  Or does that not matter with the transfer portal?
