a number of earlier posts have alluded to the dropoff at JCU...any comments...is it recruiting, coaching, or has the bar been raised by others...just curious...

Where is Toph with his JCU support?

Polarbearman:
My guess is a school that wins 104 regular season games in a row generates more conversation than the other schools who hope to break that streak.  On the other hand, go to the NCAC board and you'll find they have lots of commentary from supporters of several schools, regardless of record.
Feel free to discuss your Bears, Katrina, whatever.

first time poster....... what is gonna happen on saturday night when Cap heads to Witt??   Any thoughts on how the game will be this year compared to last year?

Capital will win this one 28-10.... With so many starters coming back, and the defense the way it is, just too much for Witt to handle.
(It also helps that that Cap has the Hauslers twins)

Scotty,
It's tough to say exactly what has happened at JCU.  I live out of the area, but I am obviously disappointed with how things have changed.  The number of players seems to still be pretty high.
I think there are still some very good people on the staff there.  That said, I think DeCarlo did about as good of a job as I have seen by surrounding himself with excellent assistant coaches.  DeCarlo was also a very good recruiter.
I would have thought that JCU's new stadium would have increased the incoming talent pool.  Maybe we haven't seen the full effect of that, yet?
It seems like the one consistency in Scafe's tenure has been sound defensive play.  Don't look for that to change any time soon.  If they can keep teams out of the endzone, they can always make it interesting,

I'm still here.  I just haven't had much time to read up around here.  I think 4u makes some good points.  DeCarlo was (by all accounts I've heard) a very good recruiter, and Scafe was left with some very big shoes to fill.  The defense should be tough again this year, and let's face it, last year JCU's road play was horrid.  If the offense can simply control the clock and limit turnovers (a major problem last year...Hope only had one scoring drive over 30 yards I think in the opener...Otterbein was one of the most mistake filled offensive performances I've ever seen) I think they will be competitive.  Let's not forget that they still have a lot of depth at running back, and a solid core of players back from last year.

As for the fall-off:
1.  I think the rest of the OAC has sort of leveled things out.
2.  I also believe this is bound to happen from time to time, I mean, ONU wasn't all that great for a few years, were they?
3.  Everyone else also has new stadiums (except for a few teams) so that angle doesn't work as well as I think many would've hoped.

Let's not forget that JCU is still going for an impressive 19th consecutive winning season.  They may not be battling out Mount Union for the top spot, but I think there are many teams who would gladly trade places with them.

Do you mean the year we had our head coach and most of his staff dismissed a week before the first kickoff or the year we had our stud QB tear his achilles on the first day of camp but still managed to finish in the top tier of the OAC?

I wouldn't say ONU's down years were all that similar to JCU's.  That said, I personally think JCU will finish with at least a share of third place in the OAC this season.

Toph:
During my years at JCU, we never lost to Ohio Northern.  That said, those teams were far from down.  They always had tremendous size, speed, and skill.  They had very good teams each year but we managed to win.  Also, BW was outstanding.  So, the OAC had four outstanding teams.  Sounds to me like things haven't changed too much-- more like some teams have switched positions.

Hello?, Hello? Is this thing on? I could have sworn College Football started in two days. There are some really interesting games in the OAC this week but NObody's talking.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

I know.  It's kind of weird.  Almost like everyone left and forgot to turn out the lights.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

OK So who else thinks that ONU/Westminster game is gonna be a barn-burner?!?  Just kidding.

So there are a couple of games that should be laughers but I wonder where the NCAC guys have been all week to talk about the OAC-NCAC matchups.  I am sure the CAP guys would enjoy a little back and forth with the guys from WITT (wait are there guys from WITT in the first place?)

B-W/Gheny could be the best game of the opening weekend.  Anyone else?
