Pat

Thanks for that update on the AFCA.  Interesting decision.

Now if you will all excuse me, I am going to go into the corner and shed a tear.

What am I missing here? ONU should at least stay the same in the poll. At this point they are eligible for the playoffs.(and that shouldn't matter.) If they would have lost would they move up? More punishment for the sins of others?

SaintsFAN

Now assuming we all know the AFCA Poll means nothing.....I don't understand dropping Northern out completely.  Unless they decided not to finish the season, its still the same team that was ranked 8th last week.  Or are the pollsters thinking losing Trusnik THAT big of a deal??

Tongue in cheek of course...

So the Cleveland Indians just moved their start time up this Saturday from 7pm to 1:30pm.  I have tickets to that game as well as the Capital-MUC game.  Which one should I go to and why?

Me too and I'm pissed!  The sole reason I bought Saturday night tickets instead of Friday night or Sunday afternoon is that I could still catch the HS game on Friday night, the MUC game on Sat afternoon and the NFL on Sunday afternoon!  Would sell my Indians tickets and go to MUC/Cap if it wasn't for the fact thay my wife and kids would kill me..........
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

what happens to DI teams when they are suspended?  I thought a few years back when Auburn was suspended they were still included in the polls, just couldnt participate in the bowlgames.
Go Eagles!

First post in the new format so here goes.
1. MUC - I taught there for a year and the players impressed me in the classroom; I could always count on them tagging Hiram (my school) for 50 to pipe down a few of our players; they are The Machine
2. ONU - They tagged Hiram for 86 my freshman year. One of our LB's was in a class with me and was bragging all week about how he was going to shut them down - I loved watching him get smacked around.
3. JCU - My best friend in college went there; Arth had a cannon.
4. CAP - I have nothing against them, and nothing in their favor.
5. Otterbein - My sister went there and used to drag me to OTTER home games when I was a kid. Nothing like spending a Saturday watching Otterbein get crushed and wanting to be anywhere else in the world.
6. Berg - A guy I played HS ball with was a defensive end at Berg. He was a real cocky SOB and I will hold it against the Student Princes forever.
7. Muskingum - My best friend in HS girlfriend went there. What a skank she turned out to be (which normally would rate them higher - except she was my best friends girlfriend); they are named after a fish - enough said.
8. Wilmington/Marietta (tie) - I don't know enough about either to put them higher and they can't go lower because that is reserved for BW.
9. BW - uniforms that remind you of the morning after you ate really bad mexican food; constantly reminding anyone who will listen of the streak (even though it has not produced many championships)

As a sidenote - I went to Hiram but did not play football for them (it could also be argued that the football team did not play either).
RIP MUC57 - Go Everybody!

I too would wait until Friday. However, the Tribe will probably blow it regardless. Go to the MUC/CAP game and bring a TV to watch the Tribe.

I get the honor (?) of seeing the Hiram/Earlham game. My nephew went to Earlham so we see the game every year and the loser buys drinks afterward.

So the AFCA dropped the Bears out of their poll.  If they were so concerned about what happened over 2 years ago, why do they wait until now to make a statement?  As has been said many times before, the wrong people are paying the price.  Maybe I'm mis-interpreting the lack of being ranked, but I cannot believe the loss of Trusnick would cause them to topple.  It was their Defense ranked first in the Nation last week, not just Trusnick.  Granted, losing him is a blow, but somebody will have to step in and step up.  Isn't that what good teams do?

Pat Coleman

I would be surprised if more than one or two voters on the AFCA poll knows about Trusnik. We didn't even mention it to our voters (and we usually don't mention injuries, even key ones, as long as a team continues to perform as expected).

Maybe ONU is not getting any votes because they are post-season barred until they file their appeal. Sounds like a formality, especially since the Prez announced the school would appeal, but until the NCAA gets their appeal paperwork I guess they are still technically out of this years post-season.

jcu87alum

According to the releases from the NCAA and ONU, the team is eligible for the post season pending the outcome of the appeal; so for now all is OK for the current players & coaches.

But what results from this from the ONU release?

"The NCAA has mandated that ONU vacate its contests in football in 2004 and remove the scores of the women's golfer from team totals in 2001.

The University will abide by these mandates."

Do the records for the ONU opponents change officially as a result?  Does vacate mean 2004 wins for ONU become losses and wins for its opponents?  Or do they become wins by forfeit?

JCU87Alum

"The NCAA ruled that all contests in which the football student-athlete competed while ineligible will be "vacated." The same goes for women's golf.
"Vacate doesn't mean forfeit," ONU sports information director Tim Glon said. "Everything counts, the wins the losses. We have an option being 0-0 or 8-2 with an asterisk."
Glon added that the record will read 8-2 with an asterisk to indicate games were vacated because of an ineligible player."

The above was taken from a Lima newspaper article on the situation.  It has also been stated that the stats and results will count.  The asterisk is the key to the "vacation" apparently.

OAC Rankings

1. ONU- Top Academics and competitive athletics. I went there.
2. MUC- I never thought I would lose 6 times in 4 years to 1 team.
3. JCU- They won the East Region. '99 ONU game in U Heights is a personal favorite.
4. BW- Only other OAC team to go to the playoffs. Only one not to lose to Mount.  Jamals '97 Run.
5. OTT- 1st start there.
6. Marietta- Grass surface. Like the river setting.
7. MUSKY- Great Setting on natural grass. Do not like the THE HILL.
8. Wilmington- Great setting again on natural grass. The cannon brings them down
9. Berg- for being ONU's locational rival, thats about it
1000. CAP- The feeling will always be mutual.

Did anyone see the feature on London Fletcher going back to the hood where he grew up? I think it was on a couple weeks ago on Fox Saturday before OSU Texas game.
