In regards to coverage of Casto and Garcon; looks like two talented receivers.  The key will be how much pressure can ONU put on Mt.'s QB  If they don't put any more pressure on him than they did Phillips from JCU, Deion Sanders wouldn't be able to cover them.  Midlam is a legit 4.4 so from a flat speed standpoint, I would think he has the speed, but he probably won't be matched man up with either, especially from his FS spot.  ONU does a nice job of disguising their coverages and moving around.  IMO, I don't see ONU changing their schemes, or putting some new package in.  They'll go to battle with what they are comfortable with and what they know.  Hostetler and Midlam are both 4 year starters and have played against Mt. 3 times so they know what to expect and won't be intimidated by the surroundings.

Food for thought; looks like a strong possibility of rain Saturday.  I know with the field turf, footing won't be a problem, but does anyone see an advantage for either team if it is raining?  Will it reduce the passing efficiency for both teams?  and if it does who has the upper hand in the running game?

And in closing, Meadows is as hard a runner as I've seen in this conference since Pugh, hands down.

I just want to post that Northeast Ohio lost one of the best sportswriters ever today in Hal Lebovitz, who also happened to be a longtime resident of University Heights, and used to run every day on the JCU track.

Toph: Now Hal is shooting his two hand set shot on the big basketball court in the sky.

Thanks for the info Toph.

You are right about Hal, he will be missed greatly.

I always enjoyed reading his articles when I was in Ohio.

My sympathy to his family and friends.

Man this really is a boring week on this board. I guess we'll have to wait till the playoffs to hear some fun banter from an opponent. :)

Although, they do say something about the "Silence before the Storm" (whomever "they" are).

The whole problem is all Raiders expect to win and everyone else expects to loose! NO ONE STANDS A CHANCE AGAINST MUC!!!

There............any comments?

As I stated in an earlier post the one thing that does tend to bug me is our fans seem to be suffering from some terrible diseases I would call

"Sittin' on your hands ittis"

Or

"Silence of the Fans"  A new movie playing at Mt Union Stadium.

Home games are supposed to be an advantage but in my visits back, there just does not seem to be that home crowd lift a team deserves sometimes. Believe me the team earns it.

I don't want to mention any names (MIAC) but there sure is a lot of support at games in their home environments.

I can't be there this weekend but I would love to have the speakers blown out of my computer while I listen to the game.

Come on Raiders!

Let's hear it.

Count out all those pushups with the cheerleaders!

Is the new president participating?

There will be plenty of pushups..........right?

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

bushman- Mounts streaks have ended on thier homefield.

raiderguy-  Could winning get old? I hope not.

Did anyone see what Sportcenter was saying about Linfield last night?

Reality Check
I know that Hostetler, Garcon, and Casto are top notch players but has anyone notice the returner from Marietta (Curry) that now leads the KR with a 34 yd average - average over 40 until this past weekend (was 1 catch shy of having the required 1.5 per game to be listed on the OAC stats sheets).  Rumor has it the kid asked the coach for a chance to return after the first game and got his chance by answering with a 65 yd return on his first one.  He has only gotten to return 9 since Mount kicked away from him last Sat and only got the ball on a handoff from the other deep man.  He doesn't do the punt returns since he is also a starting receiver and punter (since fr year) but I think he may be someone to watch.  Had some friends sitting by folks from Mount and their comment was that he may be faster on the field than either of the 3 Mount boys - although with Mount's defense their wasn't much to see this week.  I think Etta has more talent than they get recognized for.

raiderguy:
Do you think your Mt. Union fans are succumbing to that similar U of Mich (or similar teams) phenonmena where the home fans become complacent since Mt. wins all the time and they expect it (a smidge of boredom, although agree with you it shouldn't be)?  Unfortunately, that happens at times.

RC,

Everytime we (MUC Fans) talk we get called arrogant or worse. I guess I can't say much since I haven't been to a game this year (live in FL and haven't been up to OH on a weekend) but I'll throw this out:

At the beginning of the year I was very weary of this season's team. Monty was gone, no true Stars at the Skill positions on O, new QB (didn't even know which one after the first two weeks or so). But since the emergence of Garcon, Castro and Jorris, and the new aggresiveness on D, I don't see the MUC OAC win streak ending this weekend. I even picked MUC to win in the Pick Ems this week as a 20.5 point favorite.

So, MUC won't lose at home this weekend. Escpecially since I won't be there, being as I was at the MHB loss last year as the only game I saw in 2004.

4Blue1,

Is Curry your brother or son? :)

QuoteI think Etta has more talent than they get recognized for.
Talent is good, but doesn't mean anything if you are 2-4. After going 6-4 last year, a lot of folks praised Marietta for taking a good step forward. But to start this year 2-4 has to be a disappointment. Hopefully you can finish strong, but you still have to go to the sandy/cement field in Berea and then finish up with ONU at home. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pioneers finished at 4-6 this year.

OhioPolarBear,

QuoteDid anyone see what Sportcenter was saying about Linfield last night?

Nope, what did they say? Talking about the new streak of mediocrity (50 years without a losing season)?

Curry is a bright spot on that team, no doubt.  But he does not have the speed of Garcon.  What is not a bright spot is Marietta running a reverse or fake reverse on every kickoff return.  I do not understand that.

kirasdad,
Know his grandpa. Have seen him play more than once.  I'm a big fan of kids and I like to see kids from the Northeast Buckeye Conference getting a chance to play after high school.  I agree Marietta is off to a disappointing start.
