Congrats to ONU on a big win today for your football program.  I've wondered how "special" it would be to be a fan of the team that finally beat Mount in the regular season and to be there for that game and today your fans did not dissapoint.

As for the playoffs I need to correct one thing. I am told that in 1994, the NCAA, not the OAC, selected Mount Union for the playoffs.  I was also told today that in the event of a tie at the end of the year, the NCAA, not the OAC, will select an AQ from the conference.  I would have to believe if two teams finish 9-1 they both get in this year unless one is ONU because that is all up in the air.  I would love to see three teams get in in the event of a three-way tie but I doubt that would happen.  I also doubt all three teams will win out anyway.

Ric,
Just a side note, great call on the game last night, appreciate the job you've done there and wish ya the best on your move. 77-28 is still unbeleiveable!

Ric

Thx mtfan I appreciate that.

That is it, I am not going to any more MTU games. The last two I have attended in person were MHB last year and then today.

Hats off to ONU and coach Paul. The ONU D was relentless today and MTU O just looked flat. It looked like MTU was focusing on the run today with Garcon hurt and the rain and they moved the ball somewhat, but obviously not enough.

MTU D finally got tough in the second half, but Meadows ran real tough. The Side Judge on the MTU side was terrible, but that was not the reason that MTU lost. Only 1-3 passing in the first half for 38 yds is not going to do it.

Almost pulled it off at the end, but it was too little to late.

I guess it was bound to happen one day, and to have a 99 game win streak in conference it just ridiculous.

I really think that ONU was able to cover the MTU receivers, with Garcon limited. They could focus on Castro, and no one else stepped up. Jorris missed Garcon on that last int, he was open and possibly could have taken it the distance, but the safety came over and read the bad pass perfectly.

Congrats to ONU and I guess if MTU had to lose, I'm glad it was to a class act like Coach Paul.

reality check

I can't be completely certain but I am pretty sure when I flipped over to the ESPN game (LSU/AUB) the announcers were talking about the ONU/MUC game today.  I heard one of the guys joke by saying, "110 wins?  And they lose today?  That guy might be at risk of losing his job.  Those fans aren't used to this kind of result..."

It was in good fun and they seemed complimentary.  Again I missed the beginning of the conversation but I have to think I am correct in assuming what they were talking about.

RE: MTU Fans.

I sat under the covered fans for the first time in a long time and I was also disappointed with the lack of noise/enthusiasm.

I stood up a few times in situations where the O/D needed some support, trying to get something started, only to look around and get glares from all the 75 year olds, who couldn't get up due to their arthritis.

I really think that the crowd could have made a difference today, all I heard behind me is how Coach K was getting out-coached, yada, yada, yada.

The freaking guy only had a 99 straight conference win streak and these jackasses were talking about how he should have done this or that. Just rediculous.

We need to get some younger fans on that side. I do admit I like sitting under the press box much more, but I had my wife with me today, and there was no way we (she :)) was going to sit in the rain in 40 degree weather. I guess the FL living is making us soft. :)

RC,
What the Heck are you doing watching ESPN and posting on here?!?!?!?!?

Shouldn't you be out burning couches and flipping cars in Ada?  :)

I thought there was a button on the home page that explained how the playoff format goes. Is it missing or just hiding somewhere? thanks

Yep, that kind of stuff is under Frequently Asked Questions.

Also a link at the bottom of my posts.

Kirasdad- Its Casto, not Castro.  And yes I agree with you that no other MUC WR's stepped up. Casto and Garcon compliment each other very well, but someone else needs to step up when one is out.  That didnt happen today.  Also, I noticed that Jorris was really looking at his Wr's throughout their entire route.  Not hard to defend that.  It was too little too late for the Raiders.  Hopefully this is a wakeup call and they wil roll into the playoffs.
Congrats ONU, you were the better team today.  Also, its refreshing to see fans ACTUALLY cheer.

Another reason I love DIII football.

I was on the road for most of today and didn't know the scores from today's action.  I went to Bridgewater College, VA, and my younger brother, who went to a DI school, came to the Stagg Bowl game when BC matched up with MUC.

So as I'm driving back into VA, I get a call from my brother.  He's all excited, not to tell me a BC score, or a DI score, but to tell me that, yes, he saw on ESPN that Mighty Mount Union had fallen.  And now I've spent the last half hour reading the past 6 pages on this board.  Hats off to ONU and the probably the most memorable regular season moment on d3football.com

Again, congratulations to the Polar Bears and their coach, Mount Union alum, Dean Paul.

Congratulations to the Purple Raiders and coaching staff for 99 consecutive regular season wins!  Unbelievable run!  ::)

Congratulations to everybody who posts on this board.  Finally, this board is lighting up!  8)

Congratulations to all the Polar Bear Nation. A great victory for your team and the school.

I was not able to listen to the game but it sounds like the student had one over on the teacher today.

As stated earlier,  if the streak has to end it is only fitting a Mount guy with all the class in the world should have the honor.

Congratulations to Dean Paul and his staff.

And as I screamed all week about the Mount Union home crowd it sounds like they did not disappoint me.

Now showing at Mount Union Stadium, the remake

"THE SILENCE OF THE FANS"

Two thumbs up from Ebert and Roper

Bring your blankets, your pillows and a cup for your teeth and we'll have nap time on Saturday afternoons. The bus returning to the home will be departing at 4:45

I think the answer is to put one of those invisible fence lines under the seats of the covered stands. When some reaction is needed one of the real fans can hit the button and they all would get a "gentile correction" of about 5000 volts up their collective a$$e$ and at least we could hear something coming from the west side of the stadium

I did hear one very large cheer today.

I'll save that for another post. I am now removing all sharp objects from my house.

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Ric - there was no automatic bid back in 1994. The NCAA picked who they picked and the hell with the rest of 'em.

But now that there's an automatic bid, it's up to the conferences to decide who their champion is.

Why would the NCAA interefere in the OAC's business now? That's ludicrous. Since there are automatic bids, it's up to the conference to choose their representative, not the NCAA.

We at the NCAC all know about tiebreaker speculation, since it was a possibility that Kenyon, if they would have won out, would have gotten the automatic bid no matter what Wabash would have done. Obviously, the NCAA would rather have Wabash than Kenyon in the playoffs - yet - the NCAC could have sent Kenyon if the NCAC said Kenyon was their representative. So that leads me to believe that the NCAA would accept who the OAC said was their rep.

So what is the OAC tiebreaker? Who would get the "A" bid? Obviously, the Mount would be a "C" candidate, for sure if the "A" would go somewhere else.

The last item on sportscenter tonight was a quick little thing about Mount Unions' 110 game regular winning streak coming to an end.  They actually sounded a little impressed by that.

Now you know how us Yankee fans feel.   ;D

Time to start another streak.

For some reason this one is harder to take then the two I saw while I was in school...(that being the St. John's Stagg Bowl and last year's playoff loss.) It sure does make things interesting the rest of the way... by far Mount has the "easier" schedule... but as ONU proved today and how teams have proved every week in this league, pretty much anyone can win on any given Saturday and that's what it should be about. congrats on a great run MUC and I have no doubt another run is not far behind.
