The first line is Jamal's senior regular season stat line.

The second line is RJ Meadows freshman season stat line.

We have some things to look forward to in Ada for the next couple years.

(Oh and Meadows finished this regular season with 20 total TD's.  A freshman record and just one shy of two other pretty impressive Polar Bears: Vagedes 21 in 1998 and Robertson 21 in 2000.

Heidelberg will be officially changing their mascot again after the season to the Hindenburg, prior to the beginning of next season's games it will be used exclusively for aerial photography to watch the opposition, their fans and toss a few footballs to the spectators, but then during the game it will......well, as Paul Harvey would say, "and now you know the rest of the story!"  And yes, the NO SMOKING POLICY at the stadium will still be in effect.

Quirk finished his season with a QB rating of 169.15 and that gives him the best QB rating in any single season for a QB at ONU.

Even having only played 9 quarters of football prior to his season-ending injury, Jason Trusnik still led the Bears in both sacks and tackles for loss on the season 5.5/13.5 respectively.

ONU had 59 TD's which is the second best total for a season in team history to their 63 TD's in 98.

This season was a rollercoaster for many different reasons.  Of course, there is a slim chance ONU is still in the running for a Pool C (I highly doubt but it is not impossible).  If the season is over, then there is a lot to look forward to for next year already.

RC, unfortunately, ONU doesn't have a stats compiled for the 1997 and 1998 seasons and I'm too lazy to do more research.  I doubt RJ will put up the kind of numbers Jamal did.  Jamal's first play of game in 1997 resulted in a touchdown.  If I recall correctly, it was about a 95 yard kick-off return.  It was a pleasure to play with him for four years  ;)

I agree, there is a lot to look forward to next year.  I'm more excited to see what will happen in three to four years when the recruiting machine gets back in gear.  Who knows how much talent has been lost from the NCAA mess.  Each year away from that, I see ONU getting stronger.
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

Cap fans will be delighted to know that Osh Kosh blew it against LAX today so their chances as a Pool C is completely gone.  Also Huntingdon lost to Maryville so they drop to 8-2 and nearly certainly are out.

Front page says right now that UMHB, North Central, Hobart, Concordia-Moorhead, and Central are most likely in.  There are two more spots open for CAP to wiggle into but there are possible Pool B teams and Cal Lutheran at 9-1 out there to fight with.

I was lucky enough to play a little with Jamal too and see him play every game in both 99 and 00 so I know what kind of a special talent he was.  I do know Jamal had 51 rushing TD's for his career and 19 came as a junior, 18 as a senior so that leaves 13 for his first two years.  Meadows is well ahead of pace in that regard.

The Polar Bears lose a lot of seniors off of this team I know.  But the injuries to Trusnik and Alexander bring back two first team All-OAC'ers for one more year.  Quirk has one more year (I thought he was a senior but found out I was wrong) , Garrod and Meadows will both be back.  There are lots of bright spots for 2006 already in the others like the younger Trusnik, Robertson, Summers, C. Porter, Esposito, Lokai-Owens, Wittwer, Roudybush and many more...ONU is already back to it's reloading days and not just rebuilding...

There is still a lot of talent to replace compared to other schools.  I would say half the OAC teams have equal or better overall talent than the Bears right now.  When that gap is closed, it'll be a beautiful sight.

And I was wrong about Jamal's opening (He got some time earlier in the season and was hurt. Then after the injury, opened as I had said).  Faulty memory :D  He barely played our freshman year because he was mostly unneeded.  Snell was a dominant force on the field when he wasn't busy being a head-case.  In '98, he missed at least a game at the beginning of the season from family issues and then split time the rest of the season with an equally dominant runner that got lost in the cracks.

So I guess my point is that maybe RJ's overall career will look better but I doubt his last two seasons will be as impressive.  I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong :)

Torrence Wilson???  Is that the guy he split time with?  Jamal only had 642 yards but led the team in rushing in 98 too.  Wilson had a couple 100 yard games in 98.

That would be him :)  I couldn't remember his name since he only spent one season with us.  I might have to play the google game to see if he ever did anything else.  It also wouldn't surprise me if Franzer had a sizable amount of rushing yardage compared to Jamal that year....... we couldn't get him to stay in the pocket for the life of us.  He was a bit antsy that year because he wasn't used to having an offensive line :)

Cap fans are now Tex. Lutheran's biggest fans.  TLU leads Hardin-Simmons 14-7 at the break.  If that holds, move UMHB into the A, and open another C.
Been wrong before.  Will be wrong again.
