2004  vs.  2005

213.8 YPG passing  vs.  313.2 YPG passing
454.5 total offense  vs.  541.6 total offense

Other people can make QB, RB, OL comparisons as to how they contributed to the O number differences. The biggest factor to me is just having Garcon on the field.

OU #25- I think your sign name meant you went to OU. I was referring to the Dean of Football at ONU.

moe- welcome aboard. You were a heck of a player. Congratulations on your 4th letter. When others left the program; see o'reily, it was you and the others who stayed that brought ONU back and gave us who never beat Mount; lost 6 times in 4 years, the reason to be proud again. Thank you. All the alumni are proud of you guys.

well said opb.  i agree.  it always burns me that they were they only d3 team we ever played that we didn't beat. not that it's something to be ashamed of but i'm sure people understand.
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

OPB- Thanks for the nice comments.

So what is the low down on the two teams our OAC teams are going to be playing this weekend?  Special players? Strong units?  Anything that should worry either Cap or MUC?

(So much for laying low.  I gotta find something to do with all this darn free time I have now)

In my humble opinion, the Purple Raiders go as far as Jorris carries them.  When they have struggled, or at the least not played up to their usual powerful self, it's been because Jorris has had off quarters, or a game or two.  ONU, and BW come to mind.  Taking nothing away from ONU, but it was like we were watching another quarterback then what we had seen almost for all the year.

If he plays well, Garcon can stay relatively healthy, and our D can stop the Augie running machine that is most likely coming in playoff week #2 (HSCoach has made this speculation often), I don't see any reason why Mount shouldn't have more than a fair chance to make it to Salem.

This is going to great fun to watch!  For the first time in almost 10 years, I have no real confidence that the Purple Raiders can get there.  So this is what the edge looks like huh?   ;D

reality check

Upon review of Mount Saint Joseph's regular season stats, I stand even more firm in the belief that Mount Union should have little to worry about until round 2 of the playoffs.  Their offense is keyed by their rushing attack.  Their RB is a little guy (5'9" 185) but he runs well with a 5.5 average, 1200 yards and 18 TD's.  If Mount stops him, then the only question that remains is whether or not MSJ's defense can slow down the Raider O.  MSJ passes for 168 yards per game and gives up nearly the same amount through the air on D (169 per game).

I know Ric has a tale of the tape up so you can see all the statistical comparisons but it appears to be very lopsided in favor of Mount Union (big surprise I know) on paper.  The mini-Mount just doesn't compare to MUC.

With as much respect as I can garner I would guess this game winds up as a 30 point spread.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

I was rolling through some of the statistical rating systems today trying to figure out some of these matchups, and in particular one's that used the BCS rating system against D3 teams. I was dumbfounded when I had to roll down to #186 to find Curry. Hell, thats about 6 positions below Hedielburg. The few teams below Curry were mostly on their schedule. If nothing else, it points out what a joke the NCAA's Quality of Wins calculation is. Just so you don't have to look it up, Mount St Joes is somewhere around 65.
The West bracket had 8 Top 25 teams,South and North each had 4 and the East had 2. Statistically, Augustana is the big dog in the North
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

NOw imagine how lopsided these stats would be had Garcon gotten any playing time with the last 5 games of the season!!!  :o

What are the chances that Cap will win this game? Anyone have any info?

Mount Union will kill Mount St. Joe. I watched MSJ play this year and they would finish in the middle of the pack in the OAC. Not a very good football team. They just play in a weak conference.

Anyone know what time the "brunch" starts before the Mount Union game this weekend???

I haven't seen either team, but from what I've read following the OAC and CCIW boards all year, I predict it will be THE most competitive game of the entire first round - a real slug-match of two excellent teams.

HAS anyone seen BOTH teams play?  Comments?

AngryWhiteMan

correct me if im wrong, isn't any team that wins a conf. championship and makes it to the playoff considered a good team?  i know mount union is a great football team, is every year, but aren't you guys underestimating their opponent a little?

usee

I don't mean to belittle mtstjoe but i saw them and muc play on successive weeks last year. they have some good athletes but they are simply not on a level w muc as a program and i don't think that gap has diminished significantly in 1 year. i think its safe to take muc and the points on the pickem board for the lock of the week.

Given the HCAC history in the playoffs of 1-6, then no, I would not say they are being underestimated.  MUC will be prepared.  No offense white man, but I'd take OAC #4 vs HCAC #1 any day of the week.

Does anyone else but me know who the very classy gentleman in the picture beneath AngryWhiteMan is?
