ELEE,

Only place you can get those cocktails is at the Beagle in downtown Ada.....

I have looked at this matchup from a few different angles, trying to get a feel for what "might" happen.  At the risk of causing Mount's stellar play to crash (no jinx no jinx no jinx), I just can't see where Capital can win without Mount playing a sub-par game.  My case in points.

1.  Capital has only scored a maximum of 3 touchdowns in any of their "tough" games.  (OTT, MUC, ONU, JCU, NC, WAB)  The won four of those six games, with the two losses coming early/mid-season.  Their highest scoring game out of those was against Mount (24).  The last touchdown was scored when the outcome was already decided.  On the other side, other than the Mount game (42), Capital has given up a high of 19 points (NC) on defense during those same games.
2.  Mount has scored less than three touchdowns twice this year.  The loss to ONU (14), and the win against BW (17).  In all the remaining "tough" games, Mount is averaging 52 points a game.  Kick out the JCU game and it's still a high 47.5 per game.  In all of those games, Mount has given up highs of 24 (CAP), and 21 (ONU), with the opponents in the remaining "tough" games scoring 7 points or less.

Having looked at all those stats (and I know stats don't win or lose games), what will be CAP's game plan against Mount?
If CAP holds Mount to 3 TDS/21 points (which would be a great defensive effort), how can they expect to score more than that when they haven't done so almost all year when playing a quality opponent?

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that for CAP to win they must play OUSTANDING D nothing less. The O must get on the bus friday when they leave home. Other that one nice drive at Wabash and one quarter (the 2nd 21 pts) at NCC the O has not played as good as they need to win. Saying that I think it will be much closer than the first meeting because the D has played great since the last machup. Not saying that the other teams are as good as Mount but they have gotten better.

Just paid for my "possible" playoff tix for the Bengals...  Just a reminder...

Got any predictions for the game this weekend....  I will throw out...

Capital 27
MUC     24

I like that prediction. I will even pull for the Bengals because of that. If CAP wins I will give you the UDA MAN Award.

Sidekick,

When teams don't play based on their season stats is when upsets happen.

You never know, one turn over by Mount, and Capital has the ability to hang 14 or 21 in the first quarter.

I do know this, during that Northern game, they must have been inside the redzone four times and came away with two field goals, one interception, and a turn over on downs.
Turn those into touchdowns, and that game isn't even close.

I know what the stats say, but this offense can break a big play at any point with Rocky.. .. and maybe this is the game they do just that three or four times..  You just never know.

Ajwassup,

I agree. Anyone who thinks MUC will score less than 28 this weekend is dreaming.

I think that Capital's only shot in this one is to force turnovers, shorten the field for Rocky and Co., and keep that Mount O off the field (intercepting the first play from scrimmage for a TD wouldn't hurt in this game...).  Capital's defense is very good, perhaps we'll find out just how good.

Toph said that it would be nice if the first play of the game was an interception by Cap for a TD.

On a little related note I was wondering what all of you thought would be the first play of the game for either team.

The scenario...
Kickoff to the five yard line.  Return of 23 out to the 28 yard line....

What is the first play Mount would run?

What is the first play Cap would run?

My call....
Mount: Inside zone to the wide side of the field.

Cap: Three step to Howes on a quick slant.

I believe that the dynamics behind the Mount Union offense have changed greatly over the last few weeks and I think it will take time for Capital to adjust to the playcalling by MUC.  I don't feel like Mount will be hesitant to run or pass in either long or short yardage situations....and that's a luxury that was not available to them during their earlier matchup this season.  As for Mount's D, it's as strong now as it has been all season.

Or, if they started juicing a month ago and can slip by the NCAA urine testers. :)

Where is all of this talk about juicing coming from? Like Mount supporters have any room to talk!
