Please respond to me off of this board, but if anyone is making the after work run to Salem on Friday and returning after the game and more importantly has room for a Raider Die-Hard and his eight year old son let me know off-line. I have some mixed feelings about my first Stagg without my Bro, but my son has his heart set on it. We can be ready to bugout by 3:00-3:30.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Kirasdad don't go on other boards an argue with an idiot.  After all, if you win the argument, you out smarted an idiot. Let Mount Union do its talking in Salem.  If the Purple Raiders win they are the best team in the country, if they lose they are not.  Period.  I'm just glad there is one more week of football to be played.  Regardless of what is said by outsiders only two teams, and their fans, have a nice trip to look forward to this weekend. ;)

You referring to bluenote? Gotch your point though. :)

Gee,

I may as well save my $$ and skip the Stagg Bowl, as it was played Dec 3...  give me a break....I know that Mount has not danced through the playoffs, but could we just get a little respect?  How many starters at skilled offensive positions are first year starters at Mount?  They continue to improve, but lack consistency....If they play well, great....if not, were there with a shot at a national championship, that for the most part was not expected by the experts(?)...

Warhawk faithful,if you are this good, it will show on the field in Salem....Linfield faithful (not all mind you), you are at home this Saturday so cut the "woulda..shoulda..coulda"   You lost, get over it.... last year  MHB  beat us.. Any sports contest has moments that make a difference...Kmic COULD have dropped the TD pass,  the safety SHOULD have covered him, and if Oriel WOULD have played it would have been different....It wasn't

I am confident that the Raiders will show up, my only concern is the DB injury situation...lost Whitfield, lost Fehl (apparently), Watson (gimpy)... this could be MAJOR...

I don't know who will win the Stagg, but ....

If Mount Union wins, I hope I don't read that the Warhawks left it  at Linfield....  and
If WWW wins, too bad Linfield wasn't there because they were better than Mount....

The team that wins will take home the trophy, not matter how good they look on paper..I don't care if we rush for 50 yards and pass for 20, if we take home the gold....GO RAIDERS

Would love to see a Mt-Linfield mtchup in the future, but the Stagg Bowl hosts two fine and proud football teams,

MOUNT UNION VS WISCONSIN WHITEWATER.... and purple will win..

ps  IMO, ROWAN Head Coach showed great class in postgame yesterday...he was given the opportunity to say what could have been..he praised the men who stepped up....

Ric

Whitewater's turnover margin is very impressive.  But what does it mean?  Does it mean they have won by creating a lot of turnovers? Would they not be 14-0 if they had not created so many turnovers?  I for one think they would not have beaten Linfield without the second half turnovers.  I listened to the second half of that game and I have no doubt we'd be playing Linfield if not for turnovers costing them dearly, and two questionable play calls when they should have been trying to take time off the clock.

Mount Union is +7 in turnover ratio.  The one game they played that had a lopsided turnover margin was ONU (-4) and we all know they lost that game.

In Mount Union's four playoff games the turnover margin went like this:

Mount St. Joseph -1
Augustana +2
Capital even
Rowan +1

So in four playoff wins Mount Union is +2.  They are winning despite not having a lopsided favorable turnover margin.

I think we can all agree if one of the teams is +4 in turnover ratio this week they will probably win.  That is pretty much a no brainer.  But the real question is, if Whitewater cannot force turnovers, or win that battle by a couple, can they win?  Hmm, that is an interesting question.

Mt. Union's last championship came in 2002.  Grand Valley State won a title in 2002 for D-II as well.  GVSU wins the 2005 national title last night.  Anyone else see the trend here?  Why are they even playing the game this weekend?

RC, one little 'fly-in-the-ointment': GVSU ALSO won a title in between those years (though I'm blanking on whether it was 03 or 04). ;)

Sorry, RC, but wasn't sure that many people on this board would be aware of Grand Valley's dynasty and wanted to give them their due!

Keep it up for several more years and they could be the MUC of d2! ;D

RC
LOL, will you be making the Stagg trip?

I was really considering it because my wife has friends in VA so we could avoid the hotel expense.  But being that it is the holidays, money is a bit tight and I have to choose: football or family.  I guess my nieces deserve a little something for the holidays so I will have to sit back and watch the game at home in CT.

The NCAA and ESPN would have the team who has a bigger following be the 'visitor' so the camera side has more people. Do you think Mt. Union or UWW will bring more people. Whoever the NCAA and ESPN thinks will travel better will be in white, the team they think will have less of a following will be in the blacks. Any Predictions? I say Mt. Union brings more people and wears white.

JK

Mr. Ypsi,

We knew all about GVSU as one of our regulars (4u) had a cousin named Kircus who happened to be a pretty good receiver there a few years back.

By the way, I know Kircus isn't there anymore, but I am still suprised 4u didn't even mention the DII game.

In fact, 4u has been strangely quiet the entire playoffs.  Not even a witty quip or quick one-liner in a while.

Perhaps the loss to a flaming pile of BW was too much for him to bear?  Perhaps Doeder, since 4u traded him to BW, made 4u do something so hideous, so mind-bendingly shameful as a result of the loss, that he is embarrassed to even utter his signature sign-off?

Here's hoping not,
4u(s)...

JK

By the way, my first hack, little to no research, off the cuff prediction:

MUC: 21
UWW: 17

Ric,

I agree that if Linfield doesn't turn the ball over in the second half then the 'Cats win....HOWEVER.....the turnovers in question were not bad decisions in the pocket by Elliott or by a case of fumble fingers by others.  They were caused by a very opportunistic UWW defense that did a great job at making their own luck with getting their hands up at the line of scrimmage, and stripping the ball from Elliott when they had the chance, etc, etc.

The Warhawks are a hell of a team and you are just going to make them that much better by turning over the rock.

Thank goodness Mount didn't lose to a flaming pile of Rowan this weekend.  Otherwise I would have to go out and Christmas shop on Saturday with no conference interests in the Stagg Bowl.

Go raiders.
