kirasdad.

Thanks for the info.  I hope the Raiders roll this weekend!

StillMSJ,

The rule is only one player per team in the Aztec.  So if Hostetler goes, no Midlam.

Hausler isn't the only other deserving player not on the roster, but that is because none of the players left in the "round of eight" are eligible because the rosters have to be finalized by then (to the best of my knowledge).  Pre-playoffs, an initial roster is made up and invites extended to those not in.  As the playoffs progress, kids keep getting added.  Once there are only 8 temas left any players who the team wanted are scratched off and other players invited to fill those "holes."

SO it is not that they didn't want Midlam and Hausler, it is just that they are limited by the "rules."

Thanks JK. You always seem to have the answers.

I agree that Hausler probably missed out because of the playoffs but Del Val QB Adam Knoblauch is playing and he was on one of the last 8 teams standing.  Isn't Hausler thinking about coming back with one more year of eligibility?  I thought that would be the main reason he was not selected.

Maybe Hos got the nod because of his return game.  He brings an extra dimension to the Aztec table.

Just signed up for the midnight bus to Salem (Sounds like a Gladys Knight and the Pips song), so my son and I along with the 66 jersey are on our way. For those who can't break away or are struggling, I know how hard it is this time of year especially with family commitments, not to mention the finances, but my son's teacher sent home a note yesterday about how much Kevin talked about going to the Stagg Bowl one last time for his uncle and all that stuff went out the window.

Just FYI-First red-eye bus is almost gone (5 seats left @ $50 each) There may not be another. There are also other buses leaving Friday morning with overnight in Roanoke. Unsure of status of those buses. Any questions call the Alumni Office.

RC,

I could have sworn that I saw something in the past about those players still in the round of 8 not being "eligible."  It may just be some coaches who object.  I checked this years roster and I see that there is a lineman from Rowan.  So I guess I was wrong (not the first time, won't be the last).

I know I saw something about only one player per team being invited, so that argument is legit.

I believe you are correct about Hausler too.  As far as I know, he is planning on coming back next year, which means technically he is ineligible.

Hostetler got in cause the kid can play. Four time player of the week (three for special teams) should be good for something. He had an outstanding game against CAP (OAC DPOTW) with 2 ints 9 tkls. He can play.

Kyle and Thom Hausler will be back next year.

Pat Coleman

It's only the teams who are playing on Aztec Bowl day that are ineligible. Depending on the Mexican season it's either two teams (Stagg Bowl) or four teams (national semifinals).

You know after going over all the numbers and competition etc, I think certain Linfield fans might be partly right.  The national championship game was played in the Quarterfinals on December 3rd.  What they have wrong is the location.  When Mount Union beats Whitewater by more than three points and the game isn't nearly as good as the Mount Union - Capital game was it will be obvious the best two teams in the nation reside in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  Had Capital beaten Mount Union in that game there is no doubt they'd win the Stagg Bowl Saturday.;)

Surprised me that Midlam didn't get a nod for the Aztec bowl.  3rd in the nation in ints this year, 9th last year.  Led the OAC the last 2 years in ints, tied with Hausler last year and Watson this year.  Thought Midlam deserved the Tressel award, 22 career picks, 16 the last 2 years, including 3 against Mount in ONU's win this year, compared to 13 for Hausler, and Hausler has another year left.  Looks like Cap is setting K.Hausler up to be a 2 time Tressel winner.  Definitely not meant to take anything away from K.Hausler, a solid DB.

I was not saying Hostetler didn't deserve the bid.  Someone seemed surprised he got the call as opposed to Midlam (who is equally deserving).  You just strengthened my point that Hos is a helluva returner in addition to a great DB.

JK

I just recalled that Del Val's Adam Knoblauch was invited to the Aztec Bowl in the second round of the playoffs and he said it was an honor but he had plans to be somewhere else that weekend (Salem).  He was also a Gags finalist so he had the possibility of having three conflicts this weekend.  As it turns out, he gets to play one more football game, which (aside from being in Salem) is probably the way he wants it vs. picking up a trophy and getting all dressed up.  I can't argue with that logic either.

I was trying to strenghin your point.  ;D I was impressed with his talent and his ability and like I said that kid can play. I was just wondering why Hausler didn't make it and if they limited the conference to a certain number of players.

Well its Wes Hostetler day on Post Patterns as the AFCA has announced its All-American team which includes Hostetler as the AFCA First Team Return Specialist and Mount Union's Ross Watson as a First Team defensive back.

Congrats to both.

Had you given any thought to this. IF, and that was capitalized on purpose, Mount wins on Saturday, as the only team to have defeated the mighty Raiders ONU could declare itself Nat'l champ.
