This was a comment from hscoach.   Capitla gave up 4 Sacks on the day, but arguably 2 of them were coverage sacs.  Although Pentello is an outstanding Qb he has to have time to throw the ball.  Many of the passes Howes was able to grab came off of play action.  The pa pass takes time to develop.  Also Capital is a primary spread offense that more than anything else relies on the pass.

2minute:  My comment was based on their run blocking ability, not pass blocking.

I'll post this over here too since I took so long in getting it updated.

I want to extend a huge THANKS to all of the Pick-Em participants.  It's been a lot of fun trying to predict what you guys are thinking.  In terms of the Stagg, the distribution was 52%/48% in favor of Mount.  Can't ask for much better than that.

Congrats to all those that had the foresight, or faith, or blind luck to take the Raiders!  Special congrats to Mt Fan for picking the 35-28 score!

Thanks for the post. Only confirms again what most of us know about LK's program.

Best wishes on the new career and stay in touch! ;D

;D ;D ;D  Since we all know Ric is a cheater, I unilaterally declare myself the supreme, know all, is all, champion of all time.  (Kind of like my declaration that Mount is the champion forever more in D III football).

On another note, I wonder if our gracious hosts could start a post pattern, or do an article defining what the top 10 or more teams have coming back in the way of returning starters, etc...  I know we Mount fans have discussed it on here, and I believe others have done so as well.

It would be interesting to see just how the "early indicators" stack up.

reality check

I read two seperate articles on the UWW website.  The first one, posted before the Stagg Bowl stated that "win or lose, there would be a welcome home ceremony at the gymnasium for the football team."  That is a fitting gesture.

The second one stated, "Due to late arrival because of travel difficulties combined with the fact that the school is in the midst of exam week, the welcome back ceremony was cancelled."  I wonder if they would have cancelled the welcome back if there was walnut and bronze on the bus as well.  That's pretty crappy on behalf of the school or whoever made the decision to cancel the event.  Those guys earned a big thank you and congratulations on their campus.

I hate to even mention this, but 2005 has been the season of The Ric

1   His Willie Seiler Mudhens win the D3 Fantasy League
2   He wins the regular season Pick-Ems
3   He wins the playoff Pick-Ems
4   Mount wins title #8
5   He mentions on the air BEFORE Kmic's that this is the same spot on the field that Chuck broke his
6   And to top it off, he dances with the best looking blonde at the bar on Friday night in Virginia.......

Congrats to The Ric.  Either he's about to hit the lottery, or get hit by a bus.

Now if his Golden Domers beat my Buckeyes, I'm going to short circuit his hot tub!

Don't discount the contributions you made on the field where you were a great representative of Mount football.

I'd like to add my thanks for your contributions as a player and a coach and add that I'm really glad your not going to be coaching in the Portage Trail Conference. Larry's farm club at Southeast Local is getting kinda hard to take. :P

I will comment on the teams in the top 10 that I called games for in the playoffs regarding reloading for next year.

Rowan:

I started going position by position but quickly saw that this team has a LOT coming back so it's easier to just list the guys they lose: RB Nadyr Albri (started b/c of injury), DB David Smith, WR Phil Silva, WR Sakeen Wright, WR Joe D'Imperio, TE Brian Jenkins, DB Dave McCoy, LB Todd Trout, DL Nick Tarasevich, OL Michael Nemeth, OL Mike Loiseau, DL Brian Bond (who may get a medical hardship waiver?!?).  That's it.  They basically lose 11/12 players from this year's team.  They also get back their starting RB, QB from injury.  Their biggest loss is at WR where their two best options are leaving.  They will be right back where they were this year in 2006.

Del Val:

Del Val doesn't lose much in numbers but the three guys they do lose leave a huge question mark for 2006.  Gone are their All-American, all-time leading passer in QB Adam Knoblauch, their all-time leading rusher Steve Cook, and All-American center Damien Ciecwicz.  They also lose a sure-handed TE in Jason Rorer and solid DL in Matt Wallick.  The other SR's are not really big-time players.  They return a lot on defense.  In fact their top twelve tacklers return.  Wallick finished 13th on the team in tackles and is the biggest loss on D.  On O, most of the players return as I wrote, but the question marks will be huge up the middle.  Andrew Hasenauer is the heir apparent to Knoblauch and he has just ten career pass attempts.  Jake Sheffield will become the feature back but he will be a change of pace back from Cook (exact opposite running style which may or may not be successful as a feature back).  Also, there have been rumors floating around that head coach GA Mangus may be moving up.  I have read there is interest from D-I schools as an asst. coach and would not be surprised if he ends up in D-I some day given his playing days at the U of Florida.  Del Val has an uphill climb to stay on the level they currently sit.

With all the comparisions to Kenyon swimming I just wondered how many who lurk on this board know that Larry Kehres started the program and coached Mount Union swim teams between 1974 and 1986. I'm sure there was at least one OAC championship in there because the anecdote that Raider66 used to tell was that the team once grabbed him and tried to throw him in the pool, but he protested , saying he didn't know how to swim. Now that's coaching!! ::)

BTW: Even at our mutual advanced ages, I can't imagine grabbing Larry and trying to make him do anything he didn't want to do. ;D

Sorry about this belated Congratulations to MUC team and fans from a Johnnie fan. In watching the game, a question that has been in my mind for a couple years popped up again. The interviews with Coach Kehres, and the feature on Mount Union during the game breaks showed that he is not only a good (great) coach but a decent man who is what a coach/mentor should be, and highlighted MUC as a fine academic institution. What bothers me is that I seem to remember one of the announcers during the '03 Stagg bowl saying something about a player (I think it was Kinnard) coming to Mount Union because he didn't qualify academically for Ohio State. That doesn't seem to fit with what I know of D III in general, and what little I know about Mount Union specifically. What is the explanation, and do you feel that MUC was maligned with that comment?

Anyone?... Anyone?      Buehler?

seventiesraider

We really need to make the explaination of the Larry Kinnard situation a permanent part of D3Football.Com or MtUnionfootball.com.

I will defer the explaination to Pat or Ric as they have both addressed it many times in these forums, but yes it probably was an unnecessary maligning of a fine institution if it was explained as you say.
