D O.C.

Seems now that every board has nose-dived Mount Union will still be active for a bit.
Ric, if you have any pictures of the end of the year banquet would it be possible to post them so those who have never seen your guys without helmets can see the human side?

9 trips to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl with 8 wins gives a win % of :

0.88888888888888888888888888888889

Gee, I could have sworn they won more than 1% of the time! ;)

What you gave was the proportion - their percentage is 88.89%!

(Don't mess with a stat prof while he's avoiding grading finals!) ;D

"Congrats to The Ric.  Either he's about to hit the lottery, or get hit by a bus.

Now if his Golden Domers beat my Buckeyes, I'm going to short circuit his hot tub!"

Don't worry Ric since the Domers aren't going to win anyway ;D you should be fine. But watch out for that BUS!!

Go Bucks!!

My understanding is that, according to Ohio State,  Kinnard was missing an NCAA core class, due  to a mistake by highschool counselor (dont know is true)...He apparently straightened it out, and while that took place, his father was diagnosed as terminally ill, and he stayed home.
IMO, I think he was  a Big Ten project at best, not a sure thing by any means...He did develop very weill at MUC, had a good career, and got his diploma.
His father, who played in the NFL, did pass away during his time at Mount Union.

HSCoach and Ric probably have more reliable info, but this is what I undertood to have happened...
Larry did graduate from Mount Union and I was told at the Stagg Bowl teaching and coaching ...

"Since you're here lets talk numbers.  Why are you're special teams numbers very unimpressive?  Please tell us what is so impressive about Jacobs.  After all his numbers are not.  You would have to go back a long way to find numbers like that for a starting QB at Mount Union?  How can he win conference offensive player of the year?  To me your RB should have won it, Jacobs can't be the offensive MVP of your team can he?  50% completion percentage in the playoffs is bad.  I don't think Whitewater can win without forcing a bunch of turnovers.  Just my opinion we shall see.  I know they're a great team and deserve to be there but so does Mount.  And I think Mount's last two playoff games were against better defenses than they will see Saturday.  Not saying Whitewaters isn't good, it is very good, I just will be surprised if they are as good as the last two I've see that's all.

hscoach Quote:

8.   Most telling stat comparison?  Completion Percentage.  Jorris 71.4% (new Stagg record beating Smeck's 70.4%) versus Jacobs 46.8%.

I thought I remembered an eariler post that talked about Jacobs completion % in the playoffs. I guess we should have seen that comming. I knew it was goig to take a lot more than 50% completions to beat Mount.

For any wandering UWW fan.
Your QB completed 52+% of his passes for the 14 games.
To break that down, he connected on 61% of his passes in the 3 pre-conference games, 53% in the 7 conference games and 45.6% in the 4 post-season tournie games.

Here it is.

I finally was able to view the second half of the Stagg bowl on tape. A few thoughts:

Pierre Garcon is definitely a complete player! Yes he can catch, has 4.4 speed, and is big with great hands; however, the kid has been well coached. I didn't see him once lag on a play and it was his blocking and game awareness that impressed me the most. The end around play where he jumped up and told the official to wind the clock in the 4th quarter tells alot about his head. Most kids are not that aware of the moment regardless of the importance of the game. Yes he did strike a pose a couple of times but to me he earned the right to celebrate. ;)

Kmic is another well coached player. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the hand work on the ball all day. Two hands on the ball in traffic and full speed ahead otherwise. No wonder the kid doesn't fumble.

I don't care if you are a Mt Union hater the program and players are first class. I can't count the number of times they tackled a UWW player, helped him up or tapped them on the helment. That class is not seen at any level these days.

Finally, the whole program is a testament to Coach Kehres. Yes it was nice to see him show some emotion on Saturday because God knows he has earned it! Yes Mt has great talent each year but its the fact that they are the most fundamentally sound team in D3football that makes them great. Fundamentals will overcome gadget plays and spot talent more often than not. Like to the tune of 8 National Championships in 13 years.

This Bridgewater fan is over the jealosy and realizes there is a reason that Mt Union keeps winning and its not because they can get all the best players in D3! ;)

I noticed the sportsmanship (ie. helping each other up) this year more than any other Stagg Bowl I have watched.

And as nice as it was to see Garcon glide downfield and help escort Kmic into the endzone on the 95 yarder, I was much more impressed with the downfield block that put his man three yards deep into the endzone on Kmic's 15 yarder around the left end.  The ESPN guys gave kudos to Ibeh for his blocking on the play and then they noticed a blur of purple, black and white in the background down the field.  That was Garcon driving the cornerback over the goal line.  The corner then took out his frustration on Kmic and got himself a 15 yard penalty on the kick.  Garcon looks like he could be a handful to control but he did everything right at the Stagg Bowl.  Thank goodness for Mount Union that Candle reads his email.

Winner take all, you take the Dames...errr....Notre Dame, and I will take the Bucks.  We can break the tie in the post-season pic-ems.   :)

I luckily get to attend the game.  A high school buddy that now lives in Scottsdale has tickets for three buds (thankfully of which I am one), and himself to attend the game.  I fly out on New Year's Day.

So I wonder if A.J. Hawk will lighten up just a tad if he gets a chance to unload on Quinn.  He wouldn't want his girlfriend to get po'd.   ;D

The really scary part was that I slow motioned the last kmic TD like 3 times. #62 pulled and took out 2 LB's.  At the same point Garcon looked back over his shoulder while engaged, saw kmic coming and then tookout #21 full speed ahead, now that takes talent.  ;)

I would comment on the second half of the game but I really don't have much credibility.  I was in the parking lot the entire 2nd half listening to it on the radio with 2 "so-called" strippers from UW-Whitewater sitting over the fire pit.  Don't worry, I wasn't fooled by them....I didn't by their story.

Good Job Mt. Union...One Day we'll meet again.....

Man Skoal you are better than I thought. We took them to Hooters after the game and they came clean that they both worked in sales. They didn't say sale of what however. They were fun to hang out with for the day though. The 2 best lines of the day:

#1 Skoal screams out in the bleachers: "You gotta love you some Beaver" after a 10yrd run. Girl #1 looks at Skoal and cringes. Skoal says: "Now you 2 know you are down with that!" ;D

#2 In the midst of Skoal yelling "I got Beaver-fever" , Girl #2 yells, "Show your Teets". Needless to say I no longer had my beads after the game.  :o

70's,
Thanks for pointing it out that LK coached swimming.  I'd forgotten it.  Bro, I'm still hitting your plus column every 12 hours, but more someone else out there is regularly hitting your minus column.  I notice that with a few others as well.  It seems to be a game with some posters to trash the karma of anybody that ever said anything they didn't like.  I'm not at ALL a fan of this grade school karma CR*P.  Maybe some nuns from Pat's grade school gave him the idea for it.  It's way dumb.  (I will be minus brownie points for this post for sure.)

The Ric - An Irish Fan:
Me too, but only because one of my sons is a domer.  I didn't pay any attention to ND (or encourage my son to attend - it was all his idea) until Charlie Weis took over.  I now visit many of the Irish fan websites and there are LOTS of them.  Many of them can be found on a pulldown menu at ndnation.com, which is one of the best for finding links to articles about the Irish.
My son already told me that I'm getting the new book, "Touchdown Jesus" for Christmas.  He knows since he's been there I've read Murray Sperber's really excellent history of Notre Dame football, "Shake Down the Thunder" as well as several others.
So, yeah, I guess you could say I'm now an Irish fan.  It's truly a wonderful school, which I'd never have realized without my son being there.
Anybody who's actually read all this may now take a well-deserved nap!
PS  I even like Lou Holtz now too (Kent State grad).  Lou has his grave plot reserved in a small cemetary on the ND campus.  He's says his plot even has a view of the dome, but he said the view is better sitting up.
