All you guys discussing the OAC playoff losses:

The 8 losses are AFTER the playoffs expanded, which, I believe, was in 96.  So the 'Gheny loss in '90 and the LAX loss in 92 don't count.

One of the losses you didn't mention was two years ago when Larlham and company lost at Wheaton 16-12 after winning in the first round.  Had they won, they would have played MUC the next week.

I don't know if ONU ever lost to a non-MUC team in the playoffs, and Capital hasn't since '96.  As far as I can recall, the only OAC teams to have made the playoffs since 96 are MUC, ONU, JCU, BW, and CAP

The only team ONU lost to in the playoffs was MUC but RC would know for sure.

mr_mom

The 1997 team was obviously the strongest both offensively and defensivelyl  Correct me, but I remember LK saying that the 1998 team was his favorite because little was expected of them.

I would guess that this year's team is his new favorite.

I will be away from any computer for awhile -- Luddite relatives in Ohio -- so please no more DVD requests.

Happy Holidays, All!

And Thanks for the Good Karma.

It's been addressed in bits in pieces but...

2005:  CAP beat North Central, Wabash then lost to Mount Union
2004:  no 2nd place team
2003:  BW beat Hanover and then lost to Wheaton
2002:  JCU beat Muhlenberg, RPI and Brockport State then lost to Mount
2001:  no 2nd place team
2000: ONU beat Millikin then lost to Mount
1999: ONU beat Hanover, Wittenberg then lost to Mount

The OAC's at-large teams have gone 9-5 with 4 of the 5 losses coming to Mount Union.  BW has the dubious honor of being the only at-large to lose a game to someone other than Mount.

Mount Union has gone 24-3 in since the expansion with losses coming to UMHB in 2004, SJU in 2003 and Rowan in 1999.

I know a lot of this is repetitive but mtfan, you asked for it!  ;)

That's what i was looking for on a break down, thanks. Nothing wrong with repetitive when its a W by Mount, lol. I'd take a repeat win at the Stagg again next year in a heart beat!
Pat, & D3 crew, fellow d3er's & everyone
Here's wishing all a safe and wonderful holiday season and a terrific New Year! Furthermore; to the D3 staff, Pat and the crew, a special thanks for all your endless hours of hard work, dedication, and commitment to making this Site the very best  coverage of Div III Football. If there were ever a walnut&bronze trophy to recognize excellence in coverage of Div III,  the ultimate student/athlete , it should be resting on the mantle with you, Pat,  and your staff! Thanks again for all your hard work!

BTW, when can i order the preview for the 2006 season? I'm ready now, hehehe!

Olinemom

Well. I am in d3football withdrawal.  I tried to watch the game the other night on TV  Utep and somebody.  Couldn't get interested.  It's bad!!  I probably need to invest in a video of this year's Stagg Bowl and perhaps the Linfield-UW-WW game.  Anybody have any idea where to get those?  It's going to be a looooong off-season.--at least until baseball gets here.  I know, I'll make desserts for the Eagle Club and it's great. But it's not the same!!
I've managed to wrap one, exactly one present and bake 2 cakes, one for each of my Luray brothers' families.  Tree still in closet.
It sure was a fun time last Saturday!  I enjoyed meeting all the posters from WW and MUC.  I think the tailgating was great fun.   Props to Llama and Skoal for leading the way and to d3fotball.com because that is how we all got together and had a great time in fellowship & friendship about football.  Ah, I'm beginning to feel better, Tinkerbell is that you?  When I leave for the sticks tomorrow, I will have no access to computers until I get back.  But when you get back from feasting and opening that box of socks, ties, shirts and other unmentionables, give us a post re those videos if you can!!  Gotta go! Love and e-brownies to all!  (The kind that are full of e-chocolate, of course!)

Olinemom,

"utep and somebody" indeed!  That was the MAC's U of Toledo who totally blew them out of the stadium!  Show some respect for us "mid-level" d1 conferences! ;) ;D

Merde!

Olinemom

Mon cher m. Ypsi,
Now I remember who the other team was.  Yes they did look rather good.  Thery wiped the field with UTEP, but I just couldn't get into the game for some reason.  That is unusual for me.  I can usually enjoy almost any football game.  I sure hope to enjoy some of the other bowls.  Just got to get out of this funk,  Maybe some e-chocolate?  Maybe Santa will bring me tickets to Pasadena?  I think I could get into that game.  Somehow I don't think Santa has got the inroad for those kinds of tickets.  I've at least seen that stadium a couple of times.  Of course it was like 2 months after Jan. 1.  Teh, hee!  Thanks, your message is already helping.  You know anything about any video of this year's Stagg Bowl.  There was a flurry of talk many pages ago.I should have said something and didnt.  Perhaps I should write Ric on his site and see if he has a lead.  Joyeux Noël.  καλά Χριστούγενα   Gut Jul  Feliz Navidad y Prósero Año nuevo.  (Thought I´d use my brain or maybe just my different keyboards)  Have a Merry one at any rate.

Just teasing (and isn't it pathetic that out of perhaps 17 French words I know, other than those that have become 'english', one of them is merde!) - in all honesty, I didn't watch that bowl game at all!  But I did finish grading exams!

One of my all-time favorite vignettes is George W Bush telling Tony Blair that the problem with the French economy is "They have no word for entrepreneur".

Olinemom

As if W could pronounce "entrepreneur" in any language!! ;D ;D  Where would he have even heard it?  I know--on one of those secret tapes of Americans talking to Ben somebody or other.  Attention:  rhetorical question coming!   How come when these dignitaries make these unscheduled trips out to Iraq--they come in huge planes with lots of security, nobody kidnaps them?  The poor engineers can't do anything.  They just work for a living.  I know.  Let's play MUC versus the Iraqi national football team.  We'd win.  They would have to move to Afghanistan or someplace.,  LK and the guys, they could do that, with one hand tied behind their backs, no?  We could call it Stagg Bowl in the desert and serve llama, no I mean,  barbecued camel and kool-aid.   Poor Skoal.  He wouldn't be able to indulge.  That wouldn't be a good scene.  We need to be in white, though.  You know the good guys are always in white (with purple numbers, of course). Oh, darn, the oven clock is calling. . .
Yes, I, too, have finished grading exams.  But it's like house cleaning.  You look around and you have to do it all over again.  Meanwhile the students have forgotten everything but their names, and some have, well you knew where I was going . . .
Here's an interesting phrase to throw out sometimes.  It adds to the French you already know.  Merde is the base word:  Merde à la puissance treize (sh*t to the 13th power)  It means good luck actually, in student circles.  How's that for an educational moment?

UT stealing NIU's bowl bid. :(

I am still mad that the MAC West Champ did not get a bowl bid. A pox to the GMAC Bowl and all who run it.

Kirasdad-I guess that means you won't be watching the Motor City Bowl. And I was planning on waving to everyone. On the whole I'd rather sleep in that day. :P

Was this year perhaps the best coaching job done by LK and company?  Just a question that has been rolling around in my head.

Being the arm chair coach that I am I thought over all the play calling was conservative.  I thought they really needed to open up the passing game more.  That aside, they won the national championship playing it the way they did.  What do I know!  Maybe I was just hoping for the more exciting days of Ballard and Borchert when the bomb was the ultimate weapon!

I felt for Ebey at the end of the season.  He worked very hard as a blocking back and he did not touch the ball.  He did lead blocking and he did pass blocking.  Any number of times he picked some body up and Jorris more time.
While watching MUC like any football game I sometimes question the play calling.  Then I sit back and think hmmmm Have I won 135 of my last 138 games?  Or how many NAtional Championships have I been in charge of?  Then when I realize I sit behind a desk all day doing much more mundane things I give them the benefit of the doubt.  Now if LK comes and questions why we marketed our new LCD in the way that we did I would give him a little bit of argument back, but until that day.

Mr Mom-Christmas came two days early here today when the DVD arrived. Kevin and I will have a full night tonight watching Rudy and the XXXIII Stagg Bowl, all the tradition holiday classics.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
