Reality Check

One of the coaches working with the Colts offense and thus working with Tom Arth is Pete Metzelaars (Wabash, '82).

Unfortunately for Tom a roster spot behind Payton is much like the many past back-ups to Brett Favre.  The team doesn't feel a need to have a bunch of qbs suited-up and ready to go.  Not even a sympathetic former DIII-player-turned-coach will change that.

I saw on the notables page that there will be three D-III'ers in the Hula Bowl.  I knew about Hostetler and Elliott but the Osh Kosh tight end was news to me.  After reading his stats I was curious how he got the nod.  It seems like he wasn't used much.  Does he have an NFL body or something?  Is he a possibility at the next level?

Also I read Elliott will be playing on the East squad with Hos.  Is this correct?  I am guessing if it is correct that the Hula Bowl people needed another QB in the East so they "threw the D-III kid over to that side".  Just wondering.

Re: Who you'd like to see next year

With all due respect to Linfield, who would really want to see Linfield minus Elliott and Allen take on the Raiders next year?  If you asked about this season, then yeah I would have loved to see the two teams play but next year is too little, too late.  If you wanna pick a West team to play MUC next year, I would think Whitewater vs. MUC II would be the best choice.

Reality Check,
I might not have my facts exactly correct, but I do know somethings.  Docherty from UW-O was playing for the Wisconsin Badgers (don't know if he started) about 2 years ago.  He was doing well, but I think an injury ended his season.  He then transfered to UW-O (he is originally from the area), but don't know the reason why he transferred.  Sounds just like Elliot from Linfield, huh?
Like Pat said, the guy can block.  This should be clear seeing that he was playing D1 as an underclassman at a big-time running program.  There has been talk about his work ethic on the WIAC page, but I can not speak to that.  As Pat mentioned his ht and wt, I think it is his frame that has attracted the scouts to want to see him play against the "big-boys" again.

Hope this helps

RC,

I played with Bob Docherty in the Aztec Bowl and the guy is a beast and very athletic.  He didn't get passed to often but I hated going against him in practice, he was like a bull dozer.  He started at Wis. for a year but IM not sure why he tranfered.  He will definantly be getting looks from the pros.

Jamere Holland of Taft High Woodland Hills California, reportedly the fastest high school  runner in the USA,  added Mount Union to his short list of colleges he may attend in 2006.A local L.A. newspaper story  reported Holland being most impressed after watching Mount Union win their 8th Stagg Bowl in 13 years and quiped "who are those Guys"? Holland runs a 4.1 --40 and ran 10:35 in the 100 meters in the 2004 California state finals. He,s the L.A.City player of the year for 2005 catching 38 TD,S for over 3400 yds in 2 years at Taft and will play January 7,2006 in the U.S.Army All Amrican Bowl in the Alamodome on CBS TV.His short list is down to 5 and they are: USC,Oregon, recently added Mount Union,Mississippi State, and Arizona.Somebody gave him a Mount Union cap that  reportedly he,s been wearing  around L.A.Check him out Mount Union fans on TV January 7,2006 in the high school all star game on CBS.A big feather in Mount Union,s Hat even if Holland chooses a D-I Football Program!

Why would a kid who is playing in the HS All Star game and being courted by USC, Oregon, MSU and Arizona, decided to play DIII?

Sounds a bit fishy.

Rivals.com has him listed at 4.35 in the 40.

^^^^  That might be the funniest post of the year... ^^^^

"His short list includes: USC....Mount Union..."

A quick google search reveals that Taft High School in Woodland Hills, CA had a QB named Joshua Portis that chose Utah in 2004.  He then followed Urban Meyer to Florida and has since left the school because he was upset at a lack of playing time (behind Chris Leak).  His high school jersey number was 12.  Now "t-house" happens to have the email address joshuap12qb@yahoo.com.  So while this speedster from Taft is considering Mount Union, my questions is whether or not Josh Portis is headed there too so he can remove Jorris from his quarterbacking duties.

Also, good to see t-house first posted this message in the CCIW room.  Mount is apparently a very good D-III program but not good enough for Mr. Portis to know which state they reside in.

Chris Leak is the Florida Starter for next year and the Gators recently got a verbal from Tim Tebow, who some have ranked as the best "Athlete QB" in this year's HS Senior class.

I wonder how long after J Holland finds out there are no free rides at D3 schools before he pitches the purple hat.
Besides, isn't 4.35 a little too slow for Mounts receivers????

I seen Tim Tebow play on fox sports station and he seem to be a very good QB  which Florida would be a good fit for him.

jdean

It would be nice to see another wideout with garcon's speed.

kirasdad:

While I agree with you that the scenario you refer to is "not the norm" (i.e. "sounds a bit fishy...being courted by DI but considering DIII"), it does happen from on rare occasions (actually more often than we would think) for legit reasons.  I recall a few years ago (albeit in basketball), one extremely good player turned down full-ride offers to Michigan, UCLA and Houston to attend a DIII school for a specific academic program.  He was the dominant player in the league all four years, MVP, had a very good pro-career in Europe for a few years; ironic aspect is that he went into a completly different career (than he originally chose the school for) after his playing days were completed and is extremely succesful in that.

Obviously, I don't know the particulars of the case you are discussing with the others, but just thought I'd mention an example for the general discussion.

Thanks; I'll check up on that also.  I wasn't intending to be negative toward you as I understood your intent.  Rather, I was just curious as to the specifics.  Glad to hear that you're coaching in the "upper" level ranks! :)

RE: Tim Tebow

ESPN did a special on him this fall. Luckily they won the state finals vs. Armwood HS (Tampa) the 2 time defending state champs.

Interesting kid. Parents are missionaries and he was home schooled. He and his mom live in an apartment during the school year so he could play for the school of his choice. :)

I think he should choose USC ;D. Cap and the OAC schools have enough trouble keeping up with Garcon and Kmic.  besides if he don't know who you are you don't want him ;).

seventiesraider

Wait till he finds out that he is free to buy his own ticket and come to visit campus at his own expense to talk to the coaches. OAC/D3 recruiting is a far cry from what he'll see from D1 schools. BTW Do we know who gave him the hat?  :)
