GO BUCKS!!!!                                                                                                                     GO BUCKS!!![/size]

Great year for college football in Columbus this year...

Otterbein, good strong showing and upset of Cap.

Capital, a well deserved #5 in the country

Ohio State, HUGE Fiesta Bowl win, will finish no lower than #4 in the country depending on what happens to Penn State (and maybe Texas, but I think that USC would have to beat Texas by about 50 for OSU to jump them).

**Ohio Dominican didn't do so well, but it is only the second year of existence for their football team, and who cares about NAIA anyway???

Yea let's get a campaign going...Dom Capers for D coordinator. Think of the recruiting he could do.
Actually I would like to see him get a chance with the Vikings. He would finally have some talent to work with. He keeps getting stuck in these start up programs and never gets to really develop the team. Although he did make the playoffs with the Panthers I believe.
We could get Ron Lynn back too. He coached Capers when he was a player at Mount and I don't think he has caught on with any one yet.

What a staff with these guys and the young guns that were there this year,
Oh that's what wishes at New Years are all about.

joelmamma,
Here,s the scoop on Troy Starr 1985 Mount Union All American Linebacker.Starr just finished his 13th season at William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills Ca.  His record at Taft is 136 wins and 30 losses and Taft plays in the L.A.City League. Many of his players have played or are currently playing d-1 football .Some 9 former Taft players started for d-1 teams in 2005.Rick Clausen at Tennessee,Lee Marks at Boise State, and Steve Smith WR  # 2 Jr. for USC is a 2 year starter for the Trojans and many call him the next Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers.Smith catches just about every ball thrown to him.Two of his  former Taft guys are currently playing in the NFL-Seattle and Houston.Starr took a sabatical from Taft in 2003 and coached QB,S and WR,S at d-3 California Lutheran University,Thousand Oaks Ca. for one year and enjoyed it very much but went back to Taft in 2004 when the guy that replaced him at Taft was fired after one season for an  unknown reason. He has no plans of retiring from coaching football and perhaps may seek a head coaching job in d-3 football in the near future. Not many d-3 colleges in California [like only 10] so he may have to go out of state if he wants to get a d-3 head coaching job.

I couldn't find the numbers to compare for 2005 although I know I read Jamal's salary info in the Dayton Daily News earlier this year but here are Smart and Robertson's salary info for 2004.  This could be another big factor if one or the other is on the chopping block.  My guess is that Jamal is the more economical pick.  But leave it to Carolina to add another RB in the draft this year.  That would just be great.  :-\

Jamal earned a combined $362448 between San Fran and Carolina.
Smart earned $632000 with Carolina.

These numbers are published by USAToday.

Pat Coleman,

I actually thought of you when I saw that Independence Air went under. I remember talking to you at the 04 Capital-WIttenberg game and you raving about how thanks to Independence Air it was cheaper(not to mention much easier) to fly in and out on gameday than it was to drive and stay over night.  Too bad you and Keith won't be able to take so many trips with such relative ease, I am certain though that the sites will continue to thrive.

RC,

I gotta imagine for a special teamer/3rd string RB that price is a factor.  Hopefully things work out for Jamal Robertson in Carolina.  With Foster, Shelton, Goings, Robertson, and Smart in the fold I wouldn't expect them to take a RB, but you never know what happens, especially if they "stay true to the board."

Listening to WFAN (NY's Sports talk radio station that started sports radio) they did a promo for tonight's Rose Bowl and commented, "The Trojans feature an offense with a 3000 yard passer, 2 different 1000 yard running backs and a 1000 yard receiver; a first in college history."

Jorris: 3736 yards
Robinson: 1046 yards
Kmic: 1219 yards
Casto: 1223 yards
Garcon: 1196 yards

I understand what they were trying to get across but I still laughed...

I also realize I was probably the only listener they had that knew MUC could do them one better.

RC:  very well done, but I'm beginning to get a little concerned about you.  I know that we all have the tendancy to mellow out as we get older.  But back in the day, I can't remember any Polar Bears being sympathizers of evil Purple Empire.  But all of your pro-MUC talk this year has me thinking that you've either lost your mind, or your balls, or your computer has been stolen. ;D

Are you OK?  Do you need professional help?

Please remember, the first step to a cure is admitting you have a problem.

Just a little friendly question 4u.

Honestly hscoach, being so far from OAC football, I have to support not only my beloved Polar Bears but the OAC schools in general.  I have always admired Mount Union and hated them at the same time.  I find myself, as I become further removed from my days in Ada, (or Ohio in general) a fan of the entire OAC.  In fact, today I was asked my opinion on Heidelberg College from a co-worker as one of his relatives is considering a grad asst. position there.  I was honest about the Berg but given the choice, between Springfield College and Heidelberg, I backed the Berg.  I talked up the OAC and the fact he'd be coaching against some of the best.

Oh yeah, and once you beat Mount Union, the hatred cools a bit.  You just have to take my word on that one.

I love Keith Jackson because to me he is the voice of college football but he needs to retire (completely).  He can't see what's going on on the field or his monitor and has made so many miscalls so far into the Rose Bowl that I wish someone else was calling the game.

If this were radio, I'd agree with you.  But I can see when he's wrong; his style and grace are more important to me than getting it 100% correct.  And I'd rather listen to him than these ex-jock talking heads that spout the same worn-out cliches every game.

Now if he wants to do MUC games ......

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Was discussing with Gordon Mann and Pat Cummings the very thing earlier tonight. I love to hear his voice but he just couldn't keep up with the game tonight.

It is because the game was on tv that the mistakes are evident.  Keith Jackson saw about five fumbles that didn't happen, missed two that did, miscalled an extra point, and didn't know the third quarter ran out but rather thought it was a timeout called by Texas.  All of those mistakes are the ones that stick out in my head right away.  I know there were many more.  And if it were radio, they would have been easier to get away with.

Pat

I am glad you agree.  Although, if this means that you, Gordon, Pat and I are thinking along the same lines, I am a bit concerned.   ;)

The Rose Bowl was a classic contest but the issues with review, the clock management (more specifically the official's interpretations that resulted in clock management) really surprised me.  There were three times at least (two of them late in the game) when the clock mysteriously stayed running despite the fact that the player ran out of bounds on their own.  The play that really had me baffled was when the Torjans tried to convert a 3rd and short or 4th and short up the middle.  The line judge at the bottom of the screen came flying up the line of scrimmage to hold the spot.  He then got distracted with two players that were scuffling a little, turned completely around and did a 360.  After doing a jig or something he turns back to the middle of the field and just picks a spot to mark the ball that was at least a full football ahead of his initial mark based on his feet.  Luckily for Texas, the spot was just short but I couldn't believe what I saw.  Again though, it was a game for the record books.  I think all in all this was a wonderful year for college football on all levels.  Of the four divisional champions (I-A, I-AA, II and III) in the NCAA, the largest margin of victory was that of Mount Union's 7 point victory.
