JK-Had the occaision to be at West Branch tonight. Was admiring the politically incorrect indian chief painted in the east wall. I love small town America. Prayers before basketball games, kids dressed up as "warriors",  and other throwbacks to another time. Thank God the ACLU never leaves the suburbs. 8)

I'd prefer to not talk about the BB game. :-\

Matt D'Orazio has started two games for the Rush and lost both, however, the first week they played defending AFL champs the Colorado Crush and lost by 9 and last week with under 10 seconds on the clock he rushed for a TD that was called back for holding which would have won the game.  He got both starts over former heisman runner up Mike Bishop of Kansas State............hes done decent just like in Columbus with the destroyers but they shuffle there lineups so much who knows how long he'll start....

Whats the outlook for Cap next year btw............

tdubs

I look for Cap to reload! They have some recruits coming in along with some transfers that could step in and help them out right away.

Seventies,

I've been wondering about the WB Mascot for several years now.  There has never been a real issue on the part of Native Americans over the nickname "Warriors" (and I speak from experience having lived in Oklahoma for three years... in fact, most of the schools out there with a large Native American population use the nickname "warriors"), only the incorrect portrayal of Indians as "Savages," or of demeaning dances or "war whoops or chants."  Back in the day when I was a kid (early 80's) the WB Warrior chief mascot did, indeed, perform a dance during games that administration put an end to.

Anyway...

What do you think about the school itself.  Did you notice the "Barn" on the front of the school?

I think it was a cruel joke by the architect, who certainly was from either Louisville or Alliance.

JK-Despite the presence of the "Red Barn Restaurant" it is a beautiful campus and a nice faciity. I don't know, driving out through Beloit and North Benton perhaps the "barn" is appropriate. ::) Rural America is alive and well in the area north of WB.

Agreed that the Warrior mascot is tastefully carried out.  And I noted that there are at least two other schools with Native American related mascots in that conference.

What is clear looking around is that there is plenty of community support. I'm sure the one piece volleyball net and standards that swings down from the Gym ceiling didn't come from tax dollars. And I always did like that stadium.

Felt a little at home since I've been in classes at Mount with a lot of the staff and I wasn't that far from campus.

Seventies,

I, despite being younger than you (by several years, but not to rub it in), do actually remember the "Red Barn Resturaunts,"  so I get your joke.

As a matter of fact, the one in Alliance used to be right there on State Street across from Mount, where Taco Bell now stands.

Am I correct??

However, I am sure several of the guys younger than me, even just a couple of years, would have no clue what you were talking about.

Had many "Big Barneys" there during my first college career ('66-72) and a lot of Burrito Supremes during my second ('99-02). ::)  I guess your younger than me, I went to Mount with your Mom!!!

And the younger guys can be as clueless as I am about references to music since 1985 and NFL football in the last ten years. :-*

And not the first time people had no idea what I was talking about (especially my wife who is almost 19 years younger than me.) ;D

I stradled the time at MUC when we went from the Red Barn to Taco Bell.  I don't think I ever went into either one with a BAC of less than .10.

You mean the 11pm call for a "Barn Run" ahhhhhhh I can feel the grease gliding down my throat now. And the coupons to double up the orders.

We lived across the street so it was walking distance. The only fight was who had to make the "run" in the winter.

Seventies, where were you rooming then?

I had 213 Hartshorn. A basement full of beer cans left to be the foundation for the new administration building. I take great pride in knowing our current admin has such a strong base for the future.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Noticed on NCAA.org that a report was issued on 2-3-06 on the appeal of infractions against MacMurray and its coach. The original infraction report in that case was issued on 5-4-05 so if thats any indication of the speed in the appeal process, the ONU case has a few months to go.

Well, I was in McCready when I was making most of my Red Barn runs. By the time I moved on to the SAE house and Miller Hall, I had discovered the cheeseburgers at the Naborhood Inn, hence my need to return years later to get a degree :o
