So B4 is a U'per. I sensed a certain snow bound cabin fever insanity in those Florida posts. ;D

BTW RC As one of Mount Union's early D1 transfers and a graduate of Omaha Westside High School, it's The University of Nebraska. ::) and we'd apprediate it if Tressell stopped honing in on our colors. What next, white helmets?

Is it August yet?

The guys at Capital University are glowing about the incoming recruiting class.  From what they say, it appears that they think this could be the strongest recruiting class of the Jim Collins Era.

Also it turns out I am surprised by Capital's success the last few years.  Two year starting outside linebacker Bart Sparhawk is one of the biggest sissies I have ever met.  Not sure how he made his way onto the field in a Jim Bickel coached defense.  Thank god he had a great d-line in front of him and guys like Joel Sickmeier and Sam Abdullah to pick up the slack for him as a linebacker.

The upcoming season speculations are at least something to break up this eternity of wait. As a Christian fellow, I was taught "thou shall not want" but I sure "would like" this season to start next week :-\

I was too short, too slow, too young and a tad short of talent as well. :-\

Oh yeah and my folks moved back to Ohio that year, and I didn't want to do my own laundry.

Glad to hear CU is bringing a nice freshman class, hopefully a group of transfers can help as well.  Tough break with the new schedule it would be nice to have MU and ONU at home.  With last years playoff run coming on the road I would think they would play with plenty of confidence on the road.

I don't want to seem like I am piling on or anything but I have noticed over the last two years something I hadn't recalled so much in the past and that's all the talk over transfer classes.  Am I alone in thinking that it wasn't a big topic of discussion 3-10 years ago?  I know there have been transfers over the years but it seems like in the last two years, schools have been more talkative and expectant of transfers than I recall in the past.

Any thoughts from the veteran guys would be appreciated.

RC:  You're 100% correct.  The old school thinking tried to keep the "T-word" a secret, almost like it was illegal.  That's not the case now.  I'm confident in saying that Brett Elliott wouldn't have been the Gags winner 10 years ago solely because he was a D1 transfer.  Right, wrong or indifferent.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

What I find interesting is the general acceptance, and excitement of transfers, but yet just a few years ago Mount was criticized for having just a few.

If you have scanned through these post pattern pages, you read continually about the rumor of this kid or that kid transferring in.  Whether it's Linfield, St. John's, or even the lofty NCAC schools, it's a steady topic on the boards.

My how times have changed.  I guess Mount is not the only "football factory" any more.   ;D

seventiesraider

I was humored to note that it is accepted enough at Linfield that the column on the roster you would expect to be labeled high school was labeled for "Previous School".

I'm still trying to figure out how Lewis Howes runs track winter semester for one school and plays football for another fall semester. A loophole I don't think Mount has exploited yet.

I get a kick out of reading how fast Garcon is, and with his 100m dash time, it is substantiated, but how is the QB going to get him the ball on a "go" route?  Jorris couldn't get it to him last year against ONU, even with Garcon suppossedly slowed with a leg injury.  If I remember correctly, ONU's FS had 3 picks and 2 of them were on balls to Garcon.  I bet Jorris is relieved to know that the FS was a senior.

How weak was that take? Nice job eagle.

Lets not act like MUC has always unfairly been the target of of having transfers playing for them.

I remember the MUC faithful ripping Rowan for having so many transfers in the late 90s.

RC,

You are correct.  Transfers are a recent phenomenon.  Or, more appropriately, like HSCoach says, admitting someone is a transfer is a recent phenomenon.  In the early to mid 90's when I was playing there were a lot of impact transfers (mostly at Mount)... Jim Ballard (Wilma-MUC), Mike Hallett (Kent-MUC), Kris Bugara (Butler-MUC), London Fletcher (St. Francis, PA-JCU), Jason Lizzi (Berg-Cap) are all former 1st team All-OAC'ers who were transfers from that time period, but rarely did schools note that they transferred in their media guide.  The only reason I know Mike Hallett started at Kent is because he was a student teacher for my dad his Jr year at Mount.  The media guides back then listed usually only "Hometown/ High School."

One event that had an impact in the mid-90's as far as transfers go was the disbanding of the Central State football program amid the financial mismanagement investigation.  A lot of those guys came to DII or III, I think we got three of them at Capital.

What you really didn't see back then was OAC to OAC transfers because you had to sit out a year if you did that (still do, I think).  Jason Lizzi was about the only OAC to OAC impact transfer that I can remember from those days (Wilma wasn't in the OAC back then in Ballard's case).  Now there seem to be a few more (Colin O'Rielly (ONU-Cap) and Joel Sickmeier (MUC-Cap) come immediately to mind).

It does also seems like Capital in particular is getting a lot of impact transfers lately (O'Rielly, Pentello, Howes, Sickmeier, etc...)
