JK

Hey all,

Thanks for all the well wishes on the new arrival.  Mother and baby are doing fine, as best as I can tell.

I guess I should explain...

I had to leave home when Nate was a week old.  I am currently at Fort Lewis, WA, between Seattle and Tacoma.  If you know anything about ROTC, you know that all Cadets, between their third and fourth year in ROTC go to "Summer Camp."  Pretty much all ROTC instructors nationwide have to support that.  I was supposed to report out here on the 10th, but since the baby was born on the 8th, I was able to get permission to stay home until the 14th.  Unfortunately I was not able to get out of it completely.  So, duty called and I answered.  It is just what I have to do, and I accept that.  I had to leave my wife and newborn son until August 8th (perhaps earlier they are now telling me).  It was about the toughest thing I have ever done, even tougher than deploying to Kosovo or the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Luckily, this ROTC assignment has us pretty close to home, so the in-laws have been at my house pretty much constantly since I left to help out there.  Although they are driving my wife a bit crazy.  She has even been asking if my mom or dad want to come down to give her a little break from her parents.

With all the new technology out there, my wife has been able to send me pictures every day, so at least I have that, which is better than nothing, I guess.

So, again, thanks everyone.  It is really exciting to be a father.  I am looking forward to it very much.  Hopefully Nate will want to follow in his Dad's footsteps and be a Crusader, but that is a long way off.  E Lee may be right, though: Nate may be rebellious and chose to go to another OAC school.  As long as it isn't Otterbein, I'll be OK with it (although Northern may be a bit hard to swallow  ;D ).  If we remain in Kentucky, who knows what he'll do.  I guess maybe Centre (God forbid, I'm not sure I'd ever be able to afford that) or Thomas More.   That's it for D3 schools in KY.  Hopefully he has more sense than that, because I'll sure be telling him that no one is better than the OAC.

Looking forward to the season and future seasons when I can take him to see some real good small college football.

Sorry to hear duty takes you away from your family right now, but come hang out here with us as we routinely act like small children. ;D

If he's anything like most kids and their dads, by saying the OAC is the best, he will no doubt look everywhere but.  I know I would do just about the opposite of everything my dad wanted growing up just because.  Let's hope he doesn't go crazy and look at the NCAC schools.  (It's a joke NCAC guys.  Please don't take it too seriously.)

Just saw on the Daily Dose recruiting recap a note that said Garrod isn't coming back to ONU and a Freshman from Tenn is coming in and potentially share carries with Meadows.  What gives Bear fans????

Or have we covered this and I am just WAAAAAY behind the power curve on this story?

JK, congrats....as my father told me after my first child "Now you start to live."

Let's clear the air. ONU did beat MUC in the regular season.

MUC is the undisputed NATIONAL CHAMP. Get over it.

I know that the news of Garrod leaving was out not too long after the season ended but I can't be positive why he's not coming back.  Perhaps one of the Polar Bear lurkers that isn't all the way over in Connecticut can fill you in.  It's not surprising to see some more talent from Tennessee/Kentucky because of the combination of Dean Paul's old recruiting grounds at Thomas More and the fact that Meadows had such an immediate impact and is from Tennessee.

Glad we cleared the air.  I didn't know we were arguing that point but it's good to be clear.

Gee,

Based on the daily dose it sounds like the Raiders will be able to punt this year. It's one of those good news bad news deals. I hope we don't need a punter much. The article did say he was a field goal kicker too. You can never have enough "good" ones.

I hope the QB enjoyed his visit as much as the kicker did and is now under Kehre's spell.

That "Undisputed National Champions" has a nice "Ring" to it.

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

It seems strange someone would want to wait and visit a school in the summer before they come to school in a few more weeks.  The school is empty and essentially without life in the summer.

To each there own.

joelmamma, that is the best time to roll the soda machine!!!!I still can't believe some bad guys broke into the ato house after school had let out and rolled the coke machine,I wonder how many quarters they got??They must have been pretty desperate or hungry!!

Actually the entire incoming freshman class is encouraged to attend "Preview" sessions which just concluded in order to get to know the campus without the distraction of hundreds of other students. They can get their accounts set up and be ready for that first day of school or hopefully football camp. :-*

The way I read the article of the QB from AK he is going to be a senior this fall so he has awhile to decide his FB future but he could skip all the BS and go ahead and commit to the Raiders now.

Who would want to be involved with some old bald guys?

That's what they mean by "Golden Domers" right?

Also I always hear the fans at Mount Union Stadium (when you can hear them) say

"Another touchdown,....Jesus!

Yes but this is not likely the first time they have been to the campus.

Enterprise,

How are things on the left coast?  Hope all is well.  You know you are getting old when you kid gets there drivers license.  The good news is she doesn;t need me to drive her everywhere anymore.  The bad news is she doesn't need me to drive her everywhere anymore.

While I whole heartedly agree, most incoming students live less than 2 hours away. I graduated from HS in Omaha and remember that dropping in on campus tended to be a little inconvenient. ;)
