And Jason Trusnik - same thing? An injury free season is required to make a preseason All America team after being national defensive player of the year in 2004? Ouch!

Pat Coleman

We had a lot of defensive ends to choose from and no real communication from ONU that Trusnik was coming back.

Why only 1 OAC'er on the 1st Team, and only 1 OAC'er on the 2nd Team??  Is the OAC that watered down with talent??

I think there was a need for representation from all conferences.  I think it would be very possible for a number of OAC'ers on the All-American teams.  However I do disagree with one selection, I believe Taz Wallace from Adrian should have been a first team selection and not second.  But I do have a bit of bias also.

How is Kyle Hausler or Rocky Pentello from Capital not listed as a pre-season all-american?

OAC graduated some great talent last year and we did discuss several OAC players who ended up not making the cut. Pentello had a great season ... who's he going to throw to, by the way? And Hausler was listed as a senior last year, so we missed that he was coming back, I guess.

Capital always has recievers....somebody will step up for Rocky to throw the ball to. Howes and Kraft were the two main recievers last year, but there were other guys who can catch the ball. We'll just have to wait and see where he finishes this year and if he puts up numbers without having somebody to throw to, he definitely deserves all-american!

The interesting part of these kind of lists is the relative comparison of stats versus the level of competition, the overall talent level of the player's teammates, and the coach's game planning.  To that end, I'm a little skeptical of the Occidental QB being the best in the nation based on who they play.   Of all the QB's, Pentello gets my vote.  Of the guys I didn't see but heard a ton about, then add Orihel (Rowan) to the list.  Jacobs from Whitewater didn't impress me at all for being the WIAC's Player of the Year.  Beaver was the real deal for WWW, but the QB was average.

Now, all that said, I doubt Pentello puts up All-American numbers this year becuase of who they lose in the WR core and because of the quality of the teams Capital will face in the OAC.  It will be awfully tough for him to put up the stats to compare nationally.  Capital will need to win the OAC or at least finish 9-1 with a playoff bid for Pentello to get All-American.

Honestly, I'm surprised to see Jorris even getting consideration in the discussion from the front page on which QB would you want.  He played well down the stretch and in the Stagg Bowl, but how soon we forget the ONU and BW games.  As as Mountie, I would have loved to see what LK would have done with a Pentello, or Dan Larlham, or Tom Arth over the years.  That would have been scary.

Which has always left me wondering how the #5 rated QB in the country that leads his team to the National Championship is not even mentioned in the OAC stats. He beat both of the ranked QB's in head to head games and season stats too.

Interesting juxtaposition of two Mount Union fans. :)

You could have gone to the ONUsports football page and seen his mugshot listed there as of June 30th when the announcement of preseason rankings came out.

I know the hard work you guys put in so I am really just giving you a hard time with that one.

Bottom line is that if the OAC plays like it can as a whole, then the post-season All-American list will be much longer.  Preseason rankings and AA's are nice and all but that's more about respect and reputation than what you've earned or proven yourself to be in the here and now.  It should just fire guys up to make up the gap and show up on the list at the end of the season.

That works if ONU is the only school we cover. I don't think we have time to go to 233 schools Web sites every two weeks. :)

The postseason list will be longer anyway -- it will be four teams instead of two, as always. :)

I didn't say go to the other 233 sites.  Just ours would suffice.  What more could you need Pat?   ;)

..........juxtaposition...........

What the heck is that?  Sounds like some kind of perverse "position"?  No offense Pat, but there aren't many positions I'd want to be paired up with RaiderGUY.

In defense of the D3 pre-season list, it's impossible to single out the best 2 guys at each position when there's 230+ teams in D3 without national TV coverage to actually see these guys play.

Whether the OAC is well represented on the pre/post seasons lists or not, the entire nation knows come playoff time you don't want to face an OAC team.;D

I didn't know how bad the CCIW's luck was until matblake made his comment and I looked into it.

The OAC is 9-1 since the playoffs expanded versus CCIW opponents in the playoffs.  All nine CCIW playoff losses come at the hands of an OAC opponent.  I had no idea.  That has to hurt.

Damn B-W dropped the ball against Wheaton.  Rotten banana slackers.
