It is interesting to me that there has been no considerations or talk anywhere about Pierre Garcon, Nate Kmic, or any players on Mount Unions defense, ie Fehl, Kostelnik, or Stickley.

Being an old O-lineman, I'd love to talk about the other guys.  But no one brought those positions up.  In short, my only real concerns for MUC this year is the defensive tackles trying to replace Wolfe and Wells.   Which in my opinion were the best tandem of DT's that MUC has ever had.  I know they lose Watson, Whitfield and McDavind in the secondary, but the injuries last year got a lot of young guys some valuable playing time so I think they'll be fine there.  And at LB, they have plenty of depth to replace Gibbons, they just have to find some DT's to protect these LB's as well as Gibbons and Rees were protected in '05.  Gibbons had a great nose for the ball, but he definitely benefitted bigtime from the D-line play in front of him.

If you want to see what I think of all the guys, read the preview on Ric's site.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The one problem with being a MU QB is the constant comparisons to QB's of the past, who in my opinion have been the best to ever play in the league and possibly the best to play in div3.  Joris is a solid QB but how does he stack up with the previous QB's at MU?  In my opinion he may be 4th or 5th best.

I would say if the talent around them were equal I would take Rocky over Jorris because of arm strength.

No need to worry about Garcon if he stays healthy he is an EASY 1st team All-American selection.

Looking forward to another great year in the OAC.  Hopefully Cap has the next great corp of WR's ready to go along with one of the best defenses in the country.

PC, what page is that juxtaposition on?

Uhh, click on the links in my post and you can read the entire posts they come from. See for yourself what HS coach, who saw the team play all year, said, compared to what you said.

As a lifelong Mount Purple person, I am tired of people wondering if the Kuhn kid will come to Mount....seems they have more to worry about than one local kid's state of mind concerning whether or not he wants to play football.
He is a very fine player, but Mount's practice field is full of very fine players.
If he is not committed to be a Raider, he should not play and will not be missed.
LK will survive....

When is Mount's scrimmage with W&J

Hurfmuc... it is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Union Stadium but that could change.

Lighten up.

You missed my point. The "juxstaposition question" was in reference to an attempt at humor. Also because of the reply made by hscoach. He referenced it to be some "position" he had never heard of  etc, etc.

What page of the Kama Sutra is the Juxstaposition on. (That is my attempt at humor) It must not be funny if I have to explain it.

I know where your reference was, read it the first time and understood it. You couldn't have taken my words out of context could you?

I'll move on now and drop the Jorris stuff till the season progresses and he either maintains his standing as the #5 QB from last season, improves upon it or fails miserably.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

If you had said it that way, I would have gotten it. :)

thoughts on Cap '06.....
IMO the biggest difference between last season's team and those previous was o'reilly and the presence of a running game.  It was nice to see rockey have a little pressure taken off him, and the Defense on the field a little less.  Cap has always been explosive but they won a number of their games controling the ball and the clock.  The D returns most and rockey has always found a way to do his part whoever he is throwing to; mulkey looked ok times, and I think charlie smith is returning. Cap wasn't quite playoff caliber until o'reilly steped in and the running game became a factor and one of those guys or someone new needs to step up if they are going make another run at it.

reality check

O'Reilly certainly helped the cause but I think last year was the first year when everyone respected the entire Capital defense.  Cap had always had a couple studs on defense but there always seemed to be soft spots.  Swearingen patrolled the middle and was good at plugging the run so teams just took advantage of a less telented defensive backfield.  Last year, the line, backers and backfield were all strong.

Just look at points allowed over the last few years.  Last year Capital only gave up 13.6 a game, which was good enough for second place in the OAC.  Previous years they gave up 21.5, 18.6, 17.9, 26.5.  That was the difference between being a solid team in the OAC to one that went into the playoffs and got a couple wins.

O'Reilly and a running attack was a big help but it was the defensive unit that allowed Capital to excel above and beyond previous levels.

I will be interested to see if the Crusaders can fill the defensive holescreated by last year's seniors: Sparhawk, Sickmeier, Evans, Cox to name a few.  I know the defensive backs should be strong once again but the front seven take a hit this year.

A couple thoughts on your pre-season All-American list.

1. Pierre Garcon is the best player on the best team in the country. As such, he certainly deserved a mention.

2. Why not have the SID's from each team send you their choices? They could have them in by, say, June 1. You could put a limit on the number from each team. This might help some really good players from falling through the cracks. I think you missed some standout players from the OAC.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Garcon is a great wide receiver. So were the four we named. He wasn't forgotten by any stretch.

We don't have the time to mount yet another wide-ranging nomination process -- we already ask SIDs to nominate in November for All-Region and All-Americans, and those nominations usually serve us just fine.

Schools that have seniors returning for a fifth year or players coming back from injury tend to contact us. That's how Reggie Robinson and Mark Robinson (no relation) got on the preseason All-American team.

Unfortunately, I knew Hausler was coming back and had a brain cramp when knocking out the 2005 seniors.

RC...nice assessment of Cap.....  I agree the Sr's will be missed but the only one that will be tough to replace is Sickmeier.  They will have Thom Hausler and Starks back who missed many games done the stretch.  Starks has the ability to be one of the best Corners in the league.

O'Reily had a great run but Maulkey carried the load during the playoffs.
