Regarding the Workman issue, he roomed with a good friend of my sons last year and he lost interest in football and didnt finish the season....unfortunately his roomate is not returning either.

Someone,  please explain to me how you can loose interest in football......that must be an extremely rare condition and there must be a pill you can take....... ;D ;D

First of all, Guys, this was just a big, fat and, IMHP, FUNNY joke!!!!! (If I do say so myself) I actually meant it as a generic comment about all of us crazy about this sport and not directed at all to just one kid.  I wish him well.  I do know and appreciate how hard it is to be a colligiant athlete.  It surely is not for everyone and my best to all those who choose to take that path and to those who don't.

Secondly, Ohiofootball, thanks for catching that......I am an idiot!  +karma to you.  That has been that way for a month or more before someone caught it!   ;D

Collins is a much better coach than Kaz.

Ohio Northern at #17 to start the year is a joke! They beat the National Champions Mount Union#1. Only ONU#17, St. Johns#4, Rowan#3, and Mary Hardin-Baylor#6 can say that for over 10 years. They lost by 3 (last minute field goal) to another Regional Final participant Capital #5. ONU also returns the 2004 Defensive Player of the Year, only 101 tackles and 18 sacks that year. It seems everyone already has the Polar Bears slated for an 8-2 season. But there is news 4u, Mount has lost 1 game each of the past 3 years, and Capital has to travel to ONU (Homecoming), Mount, and JCU, who I believe to be the 4th best OAC team this year.

However, I don't give any credit to preseason polls. Because games aren't played on paper, but in TV sets, on radio dials, and most importantly on the field.

Its funny how when Keheres hangs 70 on someone its a wrath, but when KAZ did it, it was a terrible thing to do. And we would do it again.

Reality Check- I don't know why but it seems you are growing increasingly softer the longer you stay away from Ohio.

If you lived up here in New England you'd start turning soft too.  It's a joke up here.  And it won't get any better once I'm relocated to Arizona.  I just kinda hope I can stop in Ada on my way out West for one last deep breath.

There is a difference.  When LK hangs 70 o9n someon it is because he let up and held the team back from scoring 100.  For Kaz he put the peddle to the metal and tried to score 70 and succeded.

beenhit2hard

concerning Kaz,,,, He was one of  the 1st in the league  to use the shotgun as his base offense,,, which allowed his athletic  qb to hurt you with the run,,,was a rare offense when he started,, now it seems as if all teams have a version of the spread to run the ball ,,and it was a very good pass o always for him

So you're saying over that time period that Kaz and Collins had the same talent level to battle with?  Uh, right.

Ever wonder how many preseason polls are decided in a bar over a beer? Since the writers are professionals Im sure alcohol never enters the equation, but how many pollsters are influenced by what they overhear in a bar before their deadline is met? Its conjecture by consensus mostly. Therefore I will go out there all by myself and predict the Purple Raiders again, being the unbiased freethinker that I am.

Uh huh. It's nice to get Trusnik back and all but only five other starters from last year return. That win against Mount Union would mean more if the kids who played the game were still around.

No, by no means did crapital have equal talent.  My point is Capital was a very good team, but if you put Capital in the playoff seeding that would have made them face Mount Union in the second round Capital's playoff run would have ended just like the ONU playoff runs.  I think it's too easy to give a coach to much credit after a great season. Capital has built alot, but i see a BW like drop once Pentello leaves Capital.  Kacz kept us winning even though we lost Franzer, and Jamal.  I guess this debate could go on for 2 years so we will just have to wait and see

Not that it matters but wasn't Collins first win vs. Ohio Northern against interim coach StacyHairston?

I wasn't sure either but it was indeed against Kaz.  Cap beat ONU in 2002 in week three.  That was the season where Soliday tore his achilles in camp and Northern suffered offensively for the first few games while they juggled Matt Kanetsky and Adam Quirk at QB.  Capital exercised some of their frustrations and dropped 47 on Kaz in Bexley.  They also beat Hairston in week 2 of 2003.

Why KAZ's name is entering this "who's better" conversation is beyond me.  In my opinion Dean Paul coaches rings around KAZ.  And, he does it the right way.  I think ONU will be at the top of their game for years to come.

Capital is the enigma.  They seem to getting better every year.  That's a testament to Collins' coaching/recruiting ability.  However, I think Mount just may have some mojo/voodoo on them.  Not as strong as what Mount has over JCU, but somewhat along the same lines.  Capital will have to finally get over the top and win a game against Mount before that will change.  Hopefully, that doesn't happen in LK's remaining reign.   ;D

I was talking to a certain MU linebacker a few weeks ago, and he indicated that Mount's defense this year was going to be fast/faster/fastest.  As much as people may talk about the drop off on defense, he is thinking this D might even be better than last years.  I know that is conjecture, but it's coming from someone who would know.

I can't wait to get this thing started!

Just because I was curious...

Trusnik enters the 2006 season with 32 career sacks and 65.5 career tackles for loss.

He has a shot at breaking the all-division career sack record of 49 held by Steven Wilson from Kings.  Wilson also has the TFL career record at 106.5 but that might be a little too far fetched for Trusnik to catch even if he has an incredible season.

Trusnik went down in the first quarter of last years Musky game.  In 9 quarters of football he managed 5.5 sacks and 13.5 TFL's.  He was on pace to tally 24 sacks and 60 TFL so the career marks seem like something he has an outside shot at reaching.

For reference, D-II's records are 29 and 74.  D-I's records are 44 and 75.

I 'll give you his shot at the sack record since it is only 17 away but his 5.5 last year came against teams with a combined recored of 10-20. The remainder of the schedule totaled 45-33 so keeping that pace against better squads would be the challenge.

The other, TFL is quite an impressive number and it would be a super human task to surpass that since it has taken three years? to reach his current total of 65.5.

His success will also be predicated on the talent around him. He has had some good defensive help to allow for some of his success. What is their defense looking like as a whole in '06?
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!
