The field itself was never a problem.  The big complaint I've always heard about War Memorial Stadium was the closet they called the visitors' locker room.  I wouldn't know about that though.

I am extremely excited about my first visit to Ada since graduation this coming week.  I can't wait to see the new stadium, the new business college and all the other growth and improvements on campus.

Sep. 5th brings a new change in Ada as well.  More details to come...
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)

MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Thanks rscl70--I'll take my walkman radio and see if I can't listen to the game.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make the trip to VA this weekend--wishes from me for safe travels for all those headed south.  I will be attending the Wooster/ JCU game since my youngest has just matriculated to COW land and is in the band--I guess in this case I'm really going to see the band show surrounded by a football game, but at least I will get a chance to check out the Blue Stains and see what they have to offer this season--look for my extremely biased view sometime next week--or don't look for it, I really don't care.

You will be missed theaprof!!  When Mount came to Va. last time, you were in the thick of things.  Enjoy the band.  My dad had to miss the first SuperBowl to come to my Freshman band concert.  Believe me he was not a happy camper.  But there were a whole lot of dads who had that scowling look, but they were there to support us.  I don't think the college would dare put a band concert on against the big game in this day and age.  Me I'll be watching my boys in the buckets full of rain at McDaniel tomorrow.  Football season is finally here!!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

theaprof,

I don't want to get your hopes too high.  I live 17 miles west of Alliance near the airport and have a very hard time getting WDPN.  But maybe you'll get them in Wooster.

Now, about your daughter....she's going to Wooster?  You should have better control of your children.  ;D

When I realized that this game was going to be played in Danville Virginia, I knew for the first time since my brother Raider66 passed away exactly what his game story line would have been this week: "The Wreck of the old 97." As a history student and a railroad buff, one of his prized possessions when we were growing up was a 78 rpm record by Vernon Dalhart about the wreck of Southern mail train # 97 just outside of Danville, which was the first American record to sell a million copies.

"They gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia,
Saying, "Stevie, you're way behind time.
This is not 38, but it's Old 97,
You must put her into Spencer on time."

He looked 'round and said to his black greasy fireman,
"Just shovel in a little more coal,
And when I cross that old White Oak Mountain
You can just watch Old 97 roll."

It's a mighty rough road from Lynchburg to Danville,
And the lie was a three-mile grade,
It was on that grade that he lost his air brakes,
And you see what a jump that she made."

I'm sure he would have found a way to weave that old hillbilly song into a history lesson about Danville, Averret and the Southern Railroad and wrap it all around a game story.  It was truly a unique gift that he had for writing. And I'm sure he would have found a better way than I to utilize this final stanza.

"Now, ladies, you must take warning,
From this time now and on.
Never speak harsh words to your true loving husband.
He may leave you and never return."

;D

At least she's not playing football--and it's not an OAC school.--Besides who wants to go to school where your old man teaches?  Can't say i blame her.

I know it's the NCAC--a far inferior ;) conference for sports, especially football (may the wrath of scotman fall on me) but, for some reason, my daughter really liked the school.  I guess there's no accounting for taste!!

Go Raiders!!

OK, this is a late post, but the posts on out of state, especially FL, roster members got my curiosity and seems the OAC is a good destination for out of state students, and not just those that border Ohio.   From this year's JCU roster:

Ohio
94

Illinois
10

Florida
8

Michigan
8

New York
4

Indiana
2

Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky with one each

Any other roster breakdowns?
