Yeah, figured there was no time for a leisurely stroll across the country.

Definitely...

The fact that the Yellow Jackets held Augie to 127 yards rushing is just ridiculous. Augie averaged 346 rushing yards per contest last year, and droped 349 in their slaughtering of brutally terrible MacMurry last week. Interestingly, Augie's defense was equally strong, holding Baldwin-Wallace to 103 rushing and 48 passing.  The Vikings generated 189 total yrds, incidentally.

From the game story on the Augie website, it sounded like a defensive slugfest until an ugly second half of the 4thQ... It was tied 7-7 and then BQ throws an INT, but Augie fumbles it a few plays later. BW did what they needed to do when it counted, and comes away with a very nice win.

Despite not being particularly true of late I have a hard time thinking about BW as not being one of the best teams in the country because my only first hand experience of them is their close loss against Wheaton in the playoffs a few years back. This game definitely makes it seem like the Yellow Jackets are on the upswing... either that or Augie is in for a rough year!

Note to the NCAC:  Oberlin appears to have a porous defense this year.

Nice job Baldwin-Wallace!

THe Sportscenter anchor, John Buccigross-I think-just closed the show giving the Heidelberg score.  He said they had no highlights though.

Well...well...well.  I guess being one of the "elite" teams in D-III isn't as easy as some posters from other boards would make it out to be.  "Elite" teams don't lose their opening game of the season (right Wabash and Linfield?).  Ric...when's the last time Mount lost an opening game?

Looks like WITT may have some life to the steaming pile of "used to be" after all.  I don't know how strong Dayton is, but at least WITT represented today.  NICE win by B-W.  Should give them some confidence, and momentum.

The OAC is shaping up to be quite the league battle this year.  Actually, it should be quite similar to last year.

As per usual, all I needed to do was go to Ric's site to research when Mount last lost an opening game.  It was in 1987 (LK's second year as head coach) when they lost their opener to Wooster 15-17.  That year Mount went 6-4, which I believe is the worst record LK has had as head coach.

Ok, so I am just killing time waiting for NFL football, and working on the house is NOT an option.   ;D

It was talked about a couple of weeks ago on here, but in the current edition of PLayboy(Girls of the Big 12) Capital RB/track star Jeremy Mulkey is feautred in some section about campus fashions on page 104.  The text about him is as follows.

"The majority of male students skulking around campus in sweatpants are not athletes. They're just lazy.  Although we're not calling for an NBA-style dress code, we think you should put some thought into your appearance.  Dress to be the person you are: For a student athlete like JEREMY, a football player and track star, activewear is practical.  He can run from class to practice to class to the weight room and still look good en route.  His track jacket($78) and pants($80) are by SEAN JOHN.  HER: The jacket ($95) is by FRED PERRY.  Her jumpsuit is by BABY PHAT by KIMORA LEE SIMMONS."

Skunks, you bring up one of my favorite LK stats. You're right, in 1987 he had the least amount of wins of any of his 20 years when his team went 6-4.  The stat I find a bit amazing is he lost the four games by a total of seven points. 17-15 to Wooster, 26-23 to Geneva, 25-24 to Wittenberg and 26-25 to Capital. That was the last year he lost to any of those teams. Four losses by seven points. He was that close to 10-0 on a team that returned very little following the first two playoff teams in school history.

1987 MTU:
Thanks, Ric.
Amazing stat: losing 4 games by just 7 points.
One more key player or element in their game and they might have run the table.

Go Irish, beat Michigan!

It will be interesting to see what Dayton does this year in d-2.  CN did what mount could not-- beat MHB.  Congrats to BW on a big win.    Go Raiders!  and go Bucks!

This board has been a little dull the past few weeks, so I expect a lot of juices flowing this week.  We finally get to open up OAC play on Saturday.  I would comment on my thoughts on Cap, but they have Wilmington at home.  Not too much to say.....

Anyone have anything about the rest of the games:

Muskingum at Ohio Northern
Heidelberg at John Carroll
Mount Union at Otterbein
Baldwin-Wallace at Marietta

Ric

For me the most interest lies with Baldwin-Wallace at Marietta.  If B-W has an easy time with the Pioneers, then they may be bouncing back nicely from last year's season. Regardless of whether Augustana is down or not (and I'm not saying they are) traveling that far against that program and winning at their place is a nice way for B-W to start the season.  Stumbling this week, or even winning in a struggle, and I wouldn't be willing to bet they've improved much. An impressive win though would, at least for me here early in the year.

Results for Week 2 and the games for Week 3have been posted.

Nice win for B-W.  Never saw that one coming.
