;D  I have to admit, it gives me a little chuckle to see the Linfield faithful bicker on their own board.  I can say their smugness over the last few years was a bit hard to take.

I wonder if they can get it together and make a run at the play-offs this year?  It looks like SJU will be in the mix, and certainly Whitewater, and LAX from the West.

Is it too early to say the EAST/NORTH is where all the power is this year?  Mount, Capital, ONU, and Rowan come to mind.  Anyone have any early thoughts on the geographic power area this year?

Funny thing is......I truly believe Mount's toughest games will be in conference, and/or against conference members in the play-offs.  Capital is scary, ONU looks very solid, and I am guessing that BW may just have stepped things up to the level we used to expect from the Berea boys.  Is is possible for the OAC to get three teams in the play-offs?

It was talked about a couple of weeks ago on here, but in the current edition of PLayboy(Girls of the Big 12) Capital RB/track star Jeremy Mulkey is feautred in some section about campus fashions on page 104.  The text about him is as follows.

"The majority of male students skulking around campus in sweatpants are not athletes. They're just lazy.  Although we're not calling for an NBA-style dress code, we think you should put some thought into your appearance.  Dress to be the person you are: For a student athlete like JEREMY, a football player and track star, activewear is practical.  He can run from class to practice to class to the weight room and still look good en route.  His track jacket($78) and pants($80) are by SEAN JOHN.  HER: The jacket ($95) is by FRED PERRY.  Her jumpsuit is by BABY PHAT by KIMORA LEE SIMMONS."

I can see tons of OAC defensive coordinators challenging their charges not to get beat by a "pretty boy", unfortunately for them that "pretty boy" is quite a talented running back surrounded by plenty of other talented players.

Congrats to the OAC teams coming into the CCIW and taking care of business.  I hate to see it happen, but I have no problem giving props when they are due.  BW came ready to stop the run at Augustana and clearly over matched the Vike's O-line.  Your Lbackers did  a great job of filling whatever holes that Augie was able to create in the line.  I know that last year was a down year for the Yellow Jackets, but it looks like you are on the road to recovery.  Congrats on a strongly fought contest.

What was the defense 11 in the box? Were the defenses that good or the offenses that bad?    I know I have mentioned it before but it just seems you guys have got to do more with your offense than "Well it has worked for us in the 80's so it must still work for us now." The forward pass was invented a long time ago and somebody there ought to look into making that part of your offense. I think you have almost equaled your '05 pass attempts in the first two games so I guess that is progress. BW as you already know was picked in the middle of the OAC pack for this year and I don't know if this win really changes that. We will see as the OAC campaign begins this week.

E-lee Huh?? Elaborate if you can please. Who's the pretty boy?

Raiderguy I would say that the defense of BW looked strong, but Augie's O looked flat all day long.  I didn't see them last week against MacMurry, but I don't think those would be comparable defenses.  As for the BW O and the Augie D, BW shot themselves in the foot a few times with penalties on at least 2 plays that would have been for 30+ yards.  #13 was tough for the Vikes to stop, especially off the draw play.  Now it wasn't so much the number in the box for BW, because trust me, Augie has seen 11 in the box for the last 20 years and has been able to perform sucessfully against it.  What i was impressed with was the D-lines ability to penetrate into the back field and get an early hit on the Augie Runningbacks and the domination of speed as well.  That is one thing that Augie has [/i]always[/i] had that does not seem appearant this year -- that one back that can just tear down the field.  As for the forward pass, we have infact surpassed our NCAA record setting season total of 21 passes attempted in just 2 games.  I was actually pleased with the way that Augie moved the ball in the 2 minute offense with a nice mix of pass and run.  They moved it well on the drive with the exception of the last 2 yards.  I would have to check, but that might have been the longest drive of the game.  The longest scoring drive by either team was only 39 yards and one of them (BW's Fieldgoal) was for -2 yards.  As for BW being a mid-leaguer, I think that just goes to show you how deep to OAC is this year.  I think that it's history in the playoffs over the past several years would support that.  Once again, Congrats to BW.

Heidelberg has the OAC offensive player of the week. What are the odds against that happening? 8)

I am not calling anyone a "pretty boy", I am assuming that defensive coordinators will.  But it does not matter as Mulkey is one heck of a football player, which is all that matters to me as a Cap grad.

Any thoughts on the opening weekend for OAC games?

MUSKINGUM  at OHIO NORTHERN
WILMINGTON  at CAPITAL
HEIDELBERG  at JOHN CARROLL
BALDWIN WALLACE at MARIETTA
MOUNT UNION at OTTERBEIN

Musky and ONU should be a good measuring stick on how good these two teams are this year.
Wilm at Cap should be a yayn.
The Berg at JCU should be a chance for JCU to even up the record.
Steaming Pile at the Etta will prove if the Brown and Yellows are for real.
MTU at the Otters, what else do you say at this point?

The game that interests me is BW/Marietta.  Simply because of BW's shocking win at Augie last week.  I assumed both BW and Marietta would be average at best this year, and that Augie would be pretty good.  But maybe BW has made significant progress and Augie is down?

If BW whips Marietta, then BW is probably back amongst the top half of the OAC.

If BW and Marietta play an even game, then Augie must really suck.

If Marietta whips BW, then I have no idea what conclusions to draw.

Other than that, I think this week's games are very weak.  ONU should have little to no trouble with Musky.  Likewise with JCU over Berg.  MUC and Capital can pick their score.
