The new place is ocming together nicely.  We brought almost nothing out so we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our living room, dining room and bedroom sets from the furniture companies which should all come in the next two weeks.

It's 101 degrees and we are a couple days away from October.  That's all I have to say about that...

What are you talking about?

D3Poster should clarify by saying that Capital leads the OAC with nine consecutive regular season OAC wins right now.  I guess it's cool to say that.  I'm happier saying the following, "We beat Mount."

RJ Bowers (sic) can be called by whatever name you want as long as he keeps averaging 2 TD's and 140 yards a game I'll be content.  Kmic who?

Reality,

I come out there for the Phoenix Open every couple years.  You'll enjoy that week (around the Super Bowl) and make sure you stop by the "Birds Nest" while that party is going on.

You'll love the 70-80 degree winters out there.

Saw your guy Ringer play for MSU this past weekend....looks pretty explosive.  The Buckeyes missed out on him.

I know I am being picky but unless I missed the memo, Wittenberg has not rejoined the OAC.

Soooooo if you are saying regular season games only, not counting the playoffs or games played on the first tuesday of only the even numbered months under a full moon before midnight then Cap has an "8" game OAC winning streak. Unless you include the future game against Marietta on Sat. Then it could become 9.

LOL.....I just have a hard time looking at that as some kind of streak when they lost to Mount in the playoffs. Just like I have a hard time looking at a 31 game winning streak against teams that are members of the

L. S. O. T. P. C O. C.

Opps I am sorry, that is the

On the Jorris-Pentello smackdown:

Seventies,
I normally agree with you, my friend, but on this you are wrong.  Sure, the ring and championships are what you play for and surely should be a part of how someone is judged, but that alone shouldn't make you the "best."  You have interjected that comment several times into the discussion, and I think it is largely irrelevant.  For God's sake, Trent Dilfer is a Super Bowl winning QB.  Does that mean he should be discussed when arguing great NFL QB's of the last 10 years?  Hell no.  Why?  Because he's now a backup to a second year QB from a mid-major college on the worst team in the NFL over the last few years.

I have never seen Jorris play in person, but his stats and winning % are impressive.

I have seen Pentello play and he has outstanding physical tools.  His stats are also impressive and his winning %, while not MUC-QB like, is also outstanding.

What I do know is that before Rocky, Cap was a good, top half OAC team.  With Rocky, they have become an OAC and playoff contender.  That has to count for something.

D3 Poster

My source was the OAC release notes, so they must be giving Cap the Marietta game.

raiderguy

How do you rate a QB unless it involves his stats and his teams success?

I have always thought it had to do with your performance on the field, except with the Gagliaridi award which takes into consideration more than your on field activties.

I think this is where this discussion is focused. And if that is the case how can you not have Jorris as the top QB? His stats are better than Rocky, his record overall is better than Rocky, his head to head is better than Rocky and his team has been better than Rocky's. With the exception of last years playoff game Pentello has not done well against the Raiders. How does the success of the team act as a negative to the QB's personal performance or "The Mount Factor" It seems to have some type of negative to Jorris's stature in the league? He still has to go out and execute the plays no matter who is on the field. I even hear the knock "he misses wide open receivers" or "Garcon has to wait for the ball!"

Geez if that is the case his stats would be better than what is printed below! That's pretty scarry!

What does he need slower receivers so he can improve?

Pentello as a starter is 26-10 Playoff QF.
Jorris is 17-1 One National Title in his first year as a starter.

Rockys NCAA QB ratings '03-158.8 # 10, '04-133.5 #46, '05-143.5 #28 and '06-178.1 #11.

Mount QB's Bruney '03-182.2 #1, '04-172.0 #2, Jorris '05-174.7 #5, and '06-272.0 #1.

How about Total O stats:

O3
#11 Pentello 2984 yds for 298.4/game
#35 Larlham 2814 yds for 234.5/game just for reference
#70 Bruney 2788 yds for 199.1/game
If you want to take into consideration this was a split qb season and add Jessie Burghardt to the mix then....
#6a on the NCAA stats Bruney/Burghardt 4558 yds for 325.5/game
I know I know fatigue etc but a legit peek at total "O" stat.

04
#10 Pentello 2484 yds for 248.4/game
#13 Bruney 3112 yds for 239.4

05
#32 Jorris 3853 for 256.9/game
#47 Pentello 3057 for 235.2/game

06
#8 Jorris 613 yds for 306.5/game
#12 Pentello 571 for 285.5/game

Don't get me wrong, is Rocky a great QB.....absolutely!

Is he the best QB .....not exactly.

What am I missing?

Convince me differently,  I'll take Mike.

Jorris vs. Pentello

You can talk about stats all you like but it still doesn't mean that much...What about the intangibles? Jorris helped his team win a champoinship, Pentello did not. Does Jorris have more of "it" than Rocky does?

Irrelevant!

I have never heard the Stagg Bowl refered to it in that manner at least when it applies to D3.

We are not talking about the best QB in the last 10 years we are talking about here and now with a little historical back up. SEE ABOVE.

You're right the championship and ring alone doesn't make him the best..SEE ABOVE AGAIN!

If your guy is the best then his on field perfomance should support it and in this comparison Rocky has had a nice career but how can he be the best QB? Even in the OAC.

There are better QB's than Jorris....oops sorry he is currently #1 Opps again only #5 last year.  Did somebody else put up these stats?

Somehow "If you play QB at Mount it doesn't count?" (Sorry OJ didn't want to steal your thunder)

My point is if he is that great he takes his team to the promised land by making everyone around him better as the saying goes. Rocky Pentello has not done that.  Even a conference championship would help.  (I hope I don't regret this...."YET")

He has made a good top half OAC team, Capital, an OAC and playoff contender.

I totally agree with that statement but I would be careful not to mention to Rocky that the Stagg Bowl is Irrevelant.

What if .....Rocky played for Mount.....would his stats and performance count?

LOL.

Drop the "Doeses"

Change the "have" to "has"

Ya had the answer there all the time.

Jorris helped his team to a championship. Isn't that what the best QB's out there should do?

How many points do you get for an intangible?

If "it" is championships...throwing out the stats as you say Jorris leads 1-0.

But that is Irrelevant!

No problem.

Ya just can't trust the stats because they don't mean much.

Capital has the longest OAC winning streak going at nine games.

Cap might now be eligible for the Kissing Your Sister award that BW used to brag about for their continuous number of winning seasons.

Ric

It's a good thing getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is not based solely on winning a championship – there would be some undeserving in there and a lot of deserving left out.

That being said, the best I've seen this year may not be on your list, that being Stelzer at Otterbein.  He was very impressive and has a nice trio of receivers.  Jorris is very solid and very good.  And will probably win another championship this year.

Pentello is probably the best though IMO, based on what he has done in his career, not on the first three weeks, I haven't seen him this year.  And he should be the best, he is a fifth year senior, fourth year starter at this level.

Vrable? I have seen him play twice and can not remember being impressed either time.  Maybe that will change this year.  Quirk is also solid but would not start over Jorris if on the same team IMO.

Still, no one holds a candle to Bill Borchert.  He is the best I have ever seen play at the D3 level. If you don't remember put in the tape of the '96 Stagg Bowl for the show. And that was his junior year.

Anyway who has the best right guard in the league? Is that position rated by championships won as well?
