Sadly, the Beacon Journal reports this moning that Mount Union's opponents have even one more thing to fear playing the Raiders: Saph Infections. Apparently the outbreak at several local highs schools has also spread to Mount Union.

Maybe we can beat Heidelberg without actually touching them. Probably would have worked last week.

The Repository ran this story over a week ago.  The Beacon seems to be a bit behind the times.

bushman I don't know whether or not Kuhn is at Mount Union to be honest but I know he is not playing football there and I doubt he ever will.  I was told he didn't seem to have a desire to continue to play football out of high school due to his successes there and you have to respect that. But yes, he would have been a player any D3 football team would want to have.

Wow--we had a couple of high school kids die of meningitis here in A-town a few years back--not something you want to mess around with.

Hope all turns out well.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

reality check

I don't wish to overlook the seriousness of meningitis but on a football note, how the heck do they schedule a make-up game?  The postponement of this game could have a huge impact on playoff hopes since we have already seen the bye week come and go.

I know the playoffs are a long way away but I'm thinking of the different scenarios here but there's no way either team would get in at 7-2 and 8-1 would be 50/50.  ONU or OTT need to worry about getting to 7-2 or 8-1 but the questions are still bouncing around my head...

MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

reality check, well I don't see a problem if ONU plays next Tuesday or Wednesday.  That would still give them three or four days to get ready for Mount Union. ;)

Heck, they beat Mount last year---they shouldn't have to practice at all :D

Thanks Ric for the information.  Too bad, he was one hell of a player.  I know he would have looked good in purple.

Ex D3 Athlete

I have asked this question every year so why should this year be any different? Why don't Mount Union schedule some 1AA football teams to play against? A lot of D3 teams do it & it would give them an opportunity to see how well they measure up on the "Next Level"! Rowan just played Robert Morris University last weekend and lost 21-0 but I bet they gained valuable experience as well as exposure playing RMU. Not to mention the hype and excitement of possibly beating a 1AA program! Hey it's gotta be more exciting than winning 72-0 every weekend! ;D

MountFan08

I too have wondered why Mount hasn't scheduled a 1AA or a DII team.  Considering that the JV team shut out both Robert Morris (1AA) and Ashland (DII), I believe that the varsity team would be fully capable of defeating a team on the "Next Level." As of right now, one can only speculate as to what the result would between Mount Union and a team on a higher level.
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.

Mr. Ypsi

They may be playing the 'pool C game' - i.e., if they don't win the AQ, a non d3 game does not count in the record for pool C purposes.  With their record in the OAC, they probably could afford the risk, but that MAY be the reasoning.

And what purpose would be served? Mount beats a D2 team and the cry of people like yourself would grow louder--move out of D3. Mount is a D3 school and competes with mediocrity in most other D3 sports. The fact that they are very successful in D3 football is no reason for them to try to prove that they are anything but a D3 school.
My suggestion is that some of the other D3 schools work harder to rise to the level of Mount in football, eg Capital, UWW and ONU.

raiderguy

My guess is they may have tried to schedule this type of game  instead of traveling 500 miles to play some one who will say yes but there has not been the willingness from those programs to take the risk against a D3 school. We have Ashland that has been suggested but no word there. We have the most natural choices in a Wooster, Malone, or whoever else in the Stark County area and still the search for opponents is a challenge.

WWW several years ago was a good choice. How about ST. Johns? A great place to play and out of region game so win/lose is not that big a factor OA. Still have the conference to deal with for the playoff berth.
With all due respect Mr.Ypsi pool "C"? Sorry my nose got caught in the ceiling fan on that one.

Marietta is coming to MN next year to play them but it is a one game contract as I understand it.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!
