Section13, they all played in the 1980's for either Kehres or Wable and yes all were very good.

I don't mean to make anyone's head big, I just think credit should be given where credit is earned.  Besides, someone has to standup for the non Mount Union players.  Speaking of Credit earned......Shawn Papp, greastest lineman in CU history!!!!!!!!
What do you think?

What are you talking about!!!!  Were you not at last years Mount-CU playoff game.  I have never heard that stadium so quiet.  Admit it, ya'll were scared.  Not only did CU w/Pentello at QB almost beat you, he almost single handedly beat you.  He torched your D like no QB before him and if it wasn't for a blind side sack and caused fumble by Stickley, CU could very easily be the defending National Champs and not the "mighty" Purple Raiders.  Once again I say, just give credit where credit is due, why is that so hard for Mount fans.  Gracious Winners!!! Gracious Winners!!!!

I agree Pentello has played far from his best against Mount (playoff game excluded).  But I am glad you bring up Tee Martin because I was thinking the same thing.  It proves my point perfectly about what I have been preaching all along. FOOTBALL IS A TEAM SPORT.  No one in his right mind would take Martin over Manning, or call Krenzel the greatest OSU QB of all time, but they won rings.  Mount may win rings, but that does not mean they have the best QB or LB or RB or P or LS.  It means they have the best collection of football players.  Manning is still widely considered the best QB in the NFL, yet with no college titles and no Super Bowl rings he hasn't won the "big" one.  Brady is his biggest competition because he wins AND he is great.  I don't hear anyone calling Roethilsberger (spelling) the best NFL QB just because he won.  He had a great D and a great running game and O-Line.  I'll take Marino over Dilfer any day.  Did John Elway become a better player over night just because he won one more game?  I would be willing to bet his talent and skills were exactly the same the morning he woke up before his first Super Bowl win as they were the morning he woke up the day after that Super Bowl.  Winning is important, NO QUESTION, but in a sport unlike any other, where you rely on 21 other guys not including special teams, and when you are not even on the field when the other team has the ball, the team you play on and the right situation is MORE important than any one player's individual talent!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right Bill Cowher is a much better coach this year than he was last year.  He has to be, last year he won a Super Bowl!!!!!!

Nope, that honor goes to Jon Kovach!  :)

dabein come on don't say things like "torched you like none other" because unless you've seen every Mount Union game, or even all its playoff games in the last 15 years you really are not qualified to make that suggestion.

Secondly, if not for the blind sack? Well that is called football.  I might suggest if not for the fumbled punt at midfield early in the fourth quarter when Mount already had the lead they may have taken the ball down and put the game away. I'll keep the dumb suggestions to myself if you do.

Also, I'm not so sure Capital would have beat Whitewater. Nothing against Capital at all.  They were damn good and may be better this year.  But Whitewater was damn good too. And down there I would have given the advantage to the Warhawks even tho I would have been pulling for Cap.

And IMO Capital had some credit in Mount beating Whitewater because that was the last game film the Warhawks got and they saw Mount's DB getting beat and thought their guy could do the same. Problem was, Mount's DB was playing at about 80% vs. Cap and he was 100% two weeks later.  Also their WR wasn't as good as yours.  And it took them two quarters to figure that out and by that time Mount was up 21 and that was that.

Pentello is good, he's very good.  He'd be somewhere on my top ten list if he played for Mount.  Probably in the middle to upper middle.  But I can easily list a number of guys I (key here is I) thought were as good QB's Mount has played against in the past 15 years.

Editing last paragraph to read "as good" rather than "better."

BB97:

I do not want to anger the Football Gods but I will say  MUC 38 - ONU 17

As far as CU vs. JCU, let's go with CU 48 - JCU 10
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I am going to say that the ONU defense has an All-American day and the offense does enough to win the game.  ONU-23 to Mount-21

Big Moe's Big Stat: ONU Kicks 3 field goals and wins ala 2002 Buckeyes

bigbruce97

Yeah, I see that ONU actually has a kicking game this year - the freshman has booted a few kicks over 40 yards. The kids last year couldn't even make extra points...

D3 Poster

All you big three supporters are missing the boat on the real question.  It's not which team is going to win the OAC or which QB is the best....it's who has the better fg kicker???

Everyone sick of the talk yet?  At least we get round one of three critical match-ups tomorrow.

Dang, big bruce beat me to it....

Coach K alluded to why his former pupil won at Mt. last year in an article in the canton paper.   Mt. 4 turnovers   ONU none.    Mt. could easily lose again if they turn the ball over four times as much as ONU.

My we are all being so polite today!

After a review of the facts, stats, records, history and common opponents and reading some old tea leaves, could somebody from Da Bears side of the field "please" (see how polite) explain how they think Da Bears are going to win this game.

Yes Da Bears won last year and that TO thing was big. Were the Raiders tight, I think so. Did ONU sneek up on them a little, I think so again. Meadows was a surprise too. Raiders lose and go on to win the Walnut and Bronze, thanks for the wake up call.

Common Opponents this year Muskingum and Otterbein

Mount 120-0
ONU     62-7

That TO thing Mount +11 ONU +1

The defenses are about equal (even with "chant" Jason, Jason, Jason!) but the offense is not even close.

Mount Total O 2278  9.3 yds/play, 569.5/game 255 pts
ONU    Total O 1374  5.6 yds/play, 343.5/game 113 pts

Meadows came out of the weeds last year but he will be put out to pasture this year.
NO surprises this year.

ONU will also get to see a couple of sleepers from the Raider roster this year. Can you say Kimic and Garcon? I am sure you will hear them plenty tomorrow. I only hope the #1 rated QB in the country can get the ball to couple of his receivers. How has he managed to get that rating?

QB comparison

Jorris 42-62-2  768 Yds   67.7% 14 tds 192yds/game 238.8 QB rating
Quirk 46-75-1  494 Yds   61.3%   1 tds 123yds/game 118.3 QB rating

So IMHO  my view through those damn PURPLE COLORED GLASSES, the Raiders win comfortable at home.

Thank You
(see how polite)

Go Raiders.

Impeccable attention to detail and profound analysis of the data.  An excellent description that distinguishes between the "above average" and the "truly excellent"!

Kinder, gentler and befitting the liberal arts education that one receives at a fine institution like Mount Union! ;)
