Pat,

It's a shame you and Keith won't be able to attend the showdown in Alliance on the 28th.  You really can't go wrong with the matchup between MHB & WW either... but something tells me the individual and team performances between MUC and CU will be of classic proportions.

I posted a similar line of thought on the ATN board.  Ralph has commented:

Thanks Kirasdad! I agree with you.

For my two cents worth...the regular season game of the year will be in Alliance, OH on 10/28 and I will be driving 4 hours to see it.

To reinforce RC's point about Trusnik:

I've heard Trusnik described as the Lawrence Taylor of Division III by several of his opponents.  Stickley is a hell of a player, but there's no debate in my mind who I'd take.

Since last year's Stagg, I've been keeping an eye on the progress and competition between Beaver (WW) and Kmic.

To date here's some interesting stat comparisons:

Beaver
126 Carries for 640 yards. A 4.8 yard average with 2 touchdowns.

Kmic
70 Carries for 599 yards. A 8.5 yard average with 8 touchdowns.

It looks like you and I agree again!!!!!  It must be true, GREAT minds do think alike.  Perhaps, at the Mount-CU game we can get together and talk some serious football!!!!

It is fun to talk about the QBs and RBs and WRs, but the truth of the matter is, no one will compete with Mount in the OAC as long as they have the BEST O-Line in the conference.  I think Mount obviously has better overall talent than the rest of the league and clearly more depth, but there O-line is what seperates them from the other top tier teams.  The skill positions are very very comparable, but Mount's "big uglies" still dominate the trenches and every good team wins the battle up front.

It is not a coincidence that Pittsburgh and Seattle were in the Super Bowl last season.  There are clearly more talented teams in the NFL than those two, but they played great defense and had the 2 BEST OFFENSIVE lines in the league.  Why is Denver able to plug any running back into their systems and he rushes for over 1,000 yards?  I'll give you a hint, it's the five guys up front you have never heard of and not because all there running backs are equally talented.

That has been my claim about Mount all along, and that is a compliment, not an insult.  You can plug good players into their offensive system and they are going to play at a higher level because of their O-Line DOMINANCE.  Is Nate Kmic great, yes, but he has big holes to run through.  Is Jorris a very good QB, yes, but he has time (hours it seems like) to stand in the pocket, make his reads, and deliver the ball.  All QBs look good in 7 on 7, it is how you do against pressure with guys coming after you that makes you a true QB.  Is Garcon impossible to guard, probably, but when you have 5 or 6 seconds to get open, no DB can cover you.  Would all these players be great else where, sure, but playing at Mount, behind the best O-line year after year definitely gives them and the team a huge leg up.

Congratulations to Mount, they recruit and coach these players, so let's give credit where credit is due.  If teams in the OAC want to compete against Mount, you better start up front, because 90% of the time, that is where the battle is won.

QuoteIs Garcon impossible to guard, probably, but when you have 5 or 6 seconds to get open, no DB can cover you.

The only problem with this claim is he doesn't need 5 or 6 seconds to get open.  He needs one step.  If he isn't open (which isn't often) he'll come down with the jump ball more often than not.  This guy is scary athletic.

section13raiderfan

All this talk of the Raiders success because of O line superiority gives me the blues. LK can find players willing to play for free and take great pride in themselves and their teammates, but the Browns cant even find a good bunch of linemen with millions to dangle in front of them. Could Pentello be successful behind the Browns line? I think not! Could Charlie Frye do better with Caps line instead? How about with the Raiders? When will the Browns realize that the game still comes down to blocking and tackeling? The only true professionals with Cleveland are the marketing people who sell us false hope every summer.I cant watch anymore. Thank God, Ohio still has good Pee Wee teams to watch on Sundays. Thanks for letting me vent. Ill be good now.

Someone asked about Gunter playing this week and I didn't want to ignore the question altough I honestly don't have an answer.  If I knew something I'd share it.

Thanks, RC...

Wow, my karma keeps going down & down...did I really annoy everyone with my posts after the JC Game!!  I think I will just sit back & let dabein22 take the hits!!

Toph...
I had the opportunity to watch Garcon play in high school and he is certainly a good talent but nowhere near a "scary athlete" in South Florida.
Appears he has tread the path from D1 to D3 to be successful and made sure he chose the best program at this level to insure his success.
Certainly made a good choice for him and has work out well.

I just wanted to get my point accross on how good I really think he is.

Lets see, as an outside observer, I can choose to believe you because you THINK I should (reminds of a line in a movie--"your honor, I strenuously object") or I can rely on my own eyes (having seen 5 different muc qb's live as well as pentello and franzier) as well as RIC whom I believe has seen every OAC qb since the beginning of time??

I think you are going to have to come up with something a little more compelling than "...how good I really think he is".

Ric

Apreciate the love usee.  Maybe we'll see you in Alliance this year. For those that care, audio clips from Saturday's game are now up on the site.

Best OAC Qb's I have either played against or watched in no particular order
Pentello- clear top five in most peoples books, has to be #1 in arm strength, and accuracy...he clearly lacks some of the speed that the greats have had in the past... great escapability, but sometimes is not trusting of the pocket

Jorris-  proven leader with the ability to win close games (last years mount- cap playoff)... Arm strength is getting there, but not going to catch Pentello anytime soon... very accurate and poised in the pocket

Larlam-  very strong and allusive... he could tuck and run with no problem... he was good when it came to making the big plays on 3rd down.  Played on a very good BW 03 team.

Arth- obviously has to be mentioned because he made the show.. proven passer and leader, but not able to beat Mount.. Probably the most accurate and crisp I have ever seen in D3... another qb that made the plays when they counted on 3rd downs.. and competes with Pentello in arm strength

Bruney- fast and mobile... big play potential everytime he took the snap.. another player able to make a play in key situations.  He dominated opponents with his speed and escapability..

hopefully this is okay for your liking onyxrook

Great Repost 2MinuteO... I would hate to see anyone getting mad at you because they actually had to think while reading your post.

usee: your are completely right, you shouldn't have to hear my opinion to believe me, just look at his stats, they speak for themselves.

A copy of a post I put on "Around the Nation" earlier today.  Maybe if we make enough noise, the OAC can get some well earned (Playoff record) attention.

By no means am I assuming Cap will beat ONU this weekend.  They will have to have there best game, performance wise and game plan wise, of the season to win.  I am already nervous, especially after seeing the way JCU ran on Cap's D!!!

IT read as follows:

I'm glad to see the around the nation "world tour", but without a stop in the OAC how can you justify that?  I am sure there are other great games around the country, but everyone knows the OAC in general and Mount specifically are the premier conference and team in the nation.  Possible 1 vs. 4 in a rematch of maybe the game of the playoffs last season seems like a no-brainer.  Granted, the schedule doesn't really help as you will be attending another very good game, but come on, not coming to Mount vs. Capital would be like not showing Ohio State vs. Michigan.

Mount will probably win and probaly win big.  As history tells us they usually do.  That being said Cap has the best chance to knock them off this season and ONU proved it could be done.  Therefore, if it did happen it is instant news and I do not see how you can justify not having a representative of some kind at the game.

I got to see Trusnik  play twice last Sat.  Once from the stands and once on TV.  The TV view was much better.  This was the first time I have seen him.  My impressions were ;he is quick, strong and very agile.  He goes at one speed [fast] on every play.  He hits and tackles correctly and is always in the play.  He pursues  and his instinct for defensive football appears to be his best asset.  This guy knows football.  He must truly be a student of the game.  He must also be a joy to coach.  One play stuck out on the TV replay.  Kmic came running up to line as he had cut back and Trusnik  hit him head on.  Helmet to pads.  Kmic was ready for the hit and he simply bounced off and ran left around end into the enzone.  Trusnik wasn't far behind.  Mt. was ready for this type of player and had guys in his way most of the game.  This slowed Trusnik down just enough for  their running plays to be fairly successful.  All in all he was a thrill to watch for an old defensive player like my self.
