RC - the point I was making about Quirk was in relation to the "who's the best QB in the OAC" conversation.  I know you weren't claiming that he was the second coming, but obviously his name was mentioned when we were discussing it in here.

It's all good my friend!   ;D

Regarding alternating QB's - LK does that for two reasons, and has been very successful when doing it.  Jorris is the starting QB.  LK LOVES Micheli.  He thinks it keeps Jorris sharp by knowing that there is a talented backup that is seeing quality PT, and it prepares Micheli to take over next year.  I don't think there is anything negative at all with the strategy.  I remember LK being less than thrilled with some of Adamson's play at the beginning of his senior year.  At times he just didn't seem like he was totally engaged into the game, and made some less than thrilling throws.  However, Adamson seemed to really come into his own the second half of the season, and had a great play-off run.

I think this is a very similar situation.

I had the opportunity to watch Garcon play in high school and he is certainly a good talent but nowhere near a "scary athlete" in South Florida.

Bill Borchert was not "scary" in high school either.

With a name like Floria, I'm going to bet against father or brother.
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

Cap-ONU....

I think it will be a defensive battle, but... if Gunter does not play it may be a long day for the ONU secondary.  Cap must establish a running game to keep ONU's D line from pinning their ears back and coming after Rocky.

#39,
You are playing so well, making great plays but don't forget to eat your veggies,  do your homework and make you bed.

By no means am I trying to disrespect other conferences around the nation, in fact the game you are attending that week should be fantastic.  However, passing up a game between 2 higher ranked teams in a pivotal LEAGUE battle is interesting to me.  You can not argue with the OAC's dominance in the playoffs the past few years, so to miss the game of the year in the country's strongest conference makes me wonder.

The game you will be attending will probably end up being a better game anyways, after Mount's dominating performance against ONU and Cap's squeaker against JCU, but the potential for greatness is still there.  I am not even 100% sure Cap will still be undefeated when the 2 teams play.  However, basing your plans on current rankings and the leagues involved, IMHO, the Cap-Mount game is just as deserving of the national spotlight.

As for my lack of support on this site, most posters are huge Mount fans and are used to the national spotlight and get plenty of media attention.  All be it well deserved, they are used to it.  A national spotlight game like this for Cap could do wonders for the program and I hate to see the opportunity missed.  There players deserve the attention as well.

Thanks for responding!!!!

All this talk about Mount and CU is making me mad.....CU still has a tough test against ONU this weekend and after watching the replay on ONN I'm not sure they will win.......Glad to see the broadcasters agree with my assesment of CU's passive defensive schemes.......The ONU running game and Quirk scrambling ability are far superior to JCU and we all saw what JCU did against the CU defense......No matter how good or explosive the CU offense is, if they don't get on the field they don't score........Teams are controlling the clock and converting way too many 3rd down plays against an unaggressive BASE defense.......When are thay going to turn some of these athletes lose.......CU's DBs are as good as any in the league but they NEVER blitz and appear to be reacting rather than attacking......If this trend continues CU will be lucky to get by ONU and will have ZERO chance against a dominant Mount offense........More times than not, pressure leads to mistakes......Here's to hoping the CU offense plays mistake free football and puts a lot of points on the board.......I'm afraid they might need 'em

Desertraider

I was reading some posts on Trusnik and had to chime in. I was impressed by his size and speed. He comes off the line hard and fast on every play - but with all I had read on him over the past couple of seasons I was expecting more. I did not think Mount would be able to remove him from the game - yet I was wrong. It looked like ONU moved him around a little bit in the second half - but Mount adjusted well and controlled him all day.

If Trusnik has his eyes on the next level (and some posts from last season indicated scouts were interested) then he has to step it up a notch against the big dogs (i.e. Mount and Cap). I am interested to see how he rebounds this week.

When did MUC and CU move to the WIAC?

Just so you were updated on the latest d3 polls and so you knew who the best league was:

1 Mount Union (22) 5-0 622
2 UW-Whitewater (3) 5-0 603
3 St. John's 6-0 571
4 Capital 5-0 540
5 Wesley 5-0 511
6 UW-La Crosse 4-0 475
7 Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-1 427
8 Bridgewater (Va.) 5-0 420
9 Rowan 3-1 410
10 Hardin-Simmons 3-1 357
11 Occidental 4-0 355
12 Whitworth 5-0 340
13 Central 5-0 293
14 St. John Fisher 6-0 285
15 Wilkes 5-0 255
16 Cortland State 5-0 245
17 Ohio Northern 4-1

reality check

Gunter is a bigtime player and if he's out he will be missed but the rest of the defensive secondary is no slouch for ONU.  It's like saying since Hausler is out (I can't pay attention to which Hausler is which any more) that CAP's secondary is in trouble.  Sure, CAP would be better with him on the field but their defensive secondary is doing fine without him.

Ryan Robertson is a burner and can run with anyone, including Pierre Garcon.  He was hurt against MUC because of Garcon's physicality, not his speed.  I don't know that much about CAP's receivers but unless you guys have a Garcon in your receiving corps, ONU should be able to do a decent job.

Steve Gunter is not the only player in that defensive secondary.  I guarantee Coach Collins knows that but it would be nice if the CAP staff and players came into this game understimating the abilities of the rest of the defensive secondary too.
