Better late than never, but the Pick-Em games for Week 8 have been posted.

Great win for Cap!!  Did not play very well but still able to come up with a road win vs a good ONU team.  What a great atmosphere in Ada, love the stadium and the students on the mounds and in the endzone....Outstanding.

Two players that stuck out to me, obviously Meadows, runs hard, breaks tackles and took some monster shots.  Starks from Cap is not only a great cover corner but he was also knocking people out.

Great job by Caps O line, didn't hear Trusniks name all day.

desertraider...Good teams find a way to win but I was referring to a team losing a player and then having a week to replace him. That team has the time to re-organize and prepare. With regards to penalties you cannot always prepare for a holding penalty after making a first down late in the game to keep the winning drive alive. Penalties kill drives and games.

I know you were referring to UWWs situation but I was simply pointing out that well..good teams find a way to win. Whether it be penalties, injuries, mistakes, or whatever - good teams find a way. Penalties are up from last year (as kirasdad pointed out) and it could cause some games to be close - especially against a quality team like CAP or in the playoffs. But Mount is a good team and therefore should be able to overcome them. Granted the easiest way to overcome penalties it too eliminate them..but we'll see what happens.

Guys, thanks for the penalties stats and the Paul Brown comment.  I don't mind the overanxious type penalties.  It's the dumb personal fouls that bother me and I'm not thinking about any particular team.  I have that thought in any game I see them.

That's 2 weeks in a row for Trusnik being a no-show.  I wonder if he's not really 100% or whether he had help around him on the D-line back in 2004 that made it impossible to double him?

Probably too early to think about POY selections, but I would expect more production out of the 2006 Defensive Player of the Year than what Trusnik has displayed against MUC and Cap.   Yeah, I know he was the focused individual to scheme around, but the POY is supposed to be unstoppable regardless.

Outside of him, what other defensive playmakers are out there for consideration?  MUC's defensive playmaker has been Kostelnik at strong safety.  Always seems to be in the right spot at the right time.  Not saying he's MUC's best player, but he has a knack for being around the ball when it pops out.  Very similar to Jesse Pearson back in 2000.  Who's the Capital playmaker?  Isn't one of the 15 Hausler's still there?   ;D

I should amend that to dumb critical situation foul.  If it's not a critical time in the game and you're just tired of that guy on the other side of the line's cr*p, then it's okay to haul off and whack 'um.  I didn't just say that.  ::)

Cap's playmaker could be Starks at corner with 2 picks (1st on team), 30 tackles (2nd on team), and a fumble recovery; Or Andriacco at LB with 35 tackles (1st on team), 7 TFL (2nd on team), and a fuble recovery; But right now Zac McKenzie at DT may be playing the best with 28 tackles (3rd on team), 9 TFL (1st on team), 5.5 sacks (1st on team), 1 fumble recovery, 2 forced fumbles, and a blocked FG.  No offense to Thom Hausler, he controls the defense and is a great safety, but numbers wise, he is not having a good statistical year as in the years past.

I knew that Capitals d-line would be trouble for many of the OAC teams... I had the chance to block against many of them for 2 or 3 years... I am glad some of the players that have been in the shawdows of others are playing well... Bucci always had the quickness and with 5 sacks is doing a tremendous job.. Mac in the middle is doing a very good job and is living up to his potential as one of the best D-linemen in the country...  Starks is probably one of the most exciting players to watch.  He can shut u down and be physical when he has too.. U got to love a player with a little cockiness... expecially one who backs it up...i shoudl re-state that a player that plays with emotion....

MUC's Matt Kostelnik has been the most consistant and dominant player on defense this season.  At the very least, he should garner 1st Team OAC honors.  As Ric highlighted on his site....Kostelnik's numbers include three interceptions, two blocked punts and three touchdowns to date.

Speaking of defensive TD's, here's a trivia question that Ric and I were discussing on the air Saturday.

How many TD's has the MUC defense allowed, and how many have they scored?

+ karma for the first correct answer.

Darn - too slow!  Believe 5 and 5 is correct.  So, the Raider D would have to go OT to beat the opposition.  Huh!

Nope, they blocked an extra point against Wilmington last weekend.  :)

It has come to my attention that WRMU's internet broadcast was down for this past weekend's game.  As a student of Mount Union and a member of WRMU, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience for all those who wanted to listen.   I can assure you will be able to listen to this weekend's game vs. BW on the internet as well as on WRMU 91.1 FM in the Alliance area.  Once again I apologize on behalf of WRMU for the inconvenience and I also want to thank everybody that does listen.
