When your opponent spotted you more penalty yardage than your team even rushed for, how can you feel that you "hung" with them? How can the Raiders continue this kind of play and expect it NOT to bite them in the arse eventually?  That was one butt ugly game wasnt it?  Shall we test the Refs for hyperactivity and supply the Ritalin.... or are the Raiders really so undisciplined? I wonder what the CAPS will be able to use from these game films. Nate Kmic was about the only good thing going on offense. WOW what a defensive effort though.

I swear LK uses the BW game every year to confuse, give hope, and just generally confound everyone.  In the last three or four years this game has gone by the way of low scoring, defense, running the ball.  The players didn't help with the TO's, and the penalties.

The GOOD news is they won, and generally, if the past is any indication, there will be no hangover from this game.  It's now officially CAP week!  I am trying to convince Skunk to forego our usual Pancho's pregame for some tailgate action.  I think we are going to wait and see what the weather holds before deciding.

section13raiderfan-

From what I have seen in 2 Mount Union games this year (ONU and BW) Mount Union has been very undisciplined this season.  MOST of the holding calls were correct (including Garcon flat out laying on top of a guy to wipe out a big gain).  The biggest questions I had about the officiating yesterday were the pass interference calls that went against Mount Union.  One ball was uncatchable, the other was a good defensive play (or so it looked to me).  On the other side, Mount's first two drives were halted because the BW defensive backs flat out tackled the wide receivers before the ball reached them with no flags thrown.  I've already mentioned the play clock...somebody at BW needs a lesson.  In the 4th quarter BW was forced to call a timeout because they had personel running all over the field...ironically they didn't need the timeout because they still had 25 seconds to get the play off because the play clock never moved.

However, Mount needs to cut down on the holding penalties and personal fouls.  Yesterday I think the Raiders were only called for one or two, but against Northern they were racking them up like it was a contest to see who could be penalized the most.  The players on Mount Union have nothing to prove and should stay above "extra curricular activity."  Just because you're named the Raiders doesn't mean you need to play like they do in Oakland.

Ric

The game was the game for a couple reasons.

1) Very good defense both ways.  B-W's pass defense, to me, was the best played against Mount this year.

2) Bad penalties.  In one half it was the offense that made penalties to negate big gains.  One penalty negated a touchdown in a drive where Mount ended with no points. In the other half it was the defense, a roughing the passer penalty call on third and long in which there was an incompletion kept a drive alive and on another drive an interference on an incomplete pass kept that drive alive.

3) Turnovers. For the first time this year Mount lost that battle.  Two of the turnovers were on punt returns and when you give the ball back to the opponent like that not only are you giving them 30 to 40 yards, you are basically foregoing a possession.  When you still throw a shutout that just tells you how well your defense played.

The only personal foul penalty called in the game was on the roughing the passer and by nature that is what you call that penalty.  I was looking downfield and didn't see the hit but have to assume it was a good call.  There were no dead ball personal fouls as what we were seeing in the previous two games.

Everyone seems to be bitching about the officiating against Mount.  Maybe there are no B-W fans around, but I thought Garcon may have pushed off on the touchdown and that very easily could have come back.  I also don't know why the official threw the flag for intentional grounding on the B-W QB because he was out of the pocket.  Is that not a rule in college football? And if not then why was there the same situation in the second half with Mount's QB and there was no penalty called?

You people that think the officiating is slanted against Mount, or that think the officials have an agenda need a big shove into reality.  I have seen none of that. I have seen bad officiating, the guys in Wilmington might have been the worst in a few years, but there has been no slanting of the calls one way or another.  They were bad both ways.  When you hold you should be called for it, period.

One other thing I want to say, I thought B-W's freshman QB really stepped it up late in the game.  You really didn't feel like B-W was going to win because Mount's defense was so dominant and it was a two score lead, but that kid took a pounding all day and never backed down.

Oh and one other thing.  I will say this because we're all big boys and we can take it.  B-W's defense didn't lay down and quit in the second half like one other team's did a couple weeks back.

B-W now thinks they can play with the number one team in the nation and they showed it yesterday.  They feel like if they win out, and they have CAP, ONU and OTT remaining and assuming Mount beats CAP for a second, they feel like at 8-2 they'd be in the same situation as Capital was last year.  That is what they are now telling their kids and its exactly what I'd be telling them to.

Just because you're named the Raiders doesn't mean you need to play like they do in Oakland.
Nice reference and I second the motion.

This may have been mentioned and if so I'm sorry, but did Mount fans notice Emory & Henry beat Bridgewater yesterday?  Nice win for Monty!  Way to go Monty! Emory & Henry hasn't had a winning season since 2000 but its very possible for them to do that now this year.

Mount had 10 penalties for 114 yards. Not good...again. And perhaps the officials did make some bad calls but complaining about the officials is like complaining about the weather. It is what it is.

Nice to see Monty and staff bringing Emory&Henry up in the ODAC. Sure makes its interesting now, with Bridgewater having 2 losses whether they can get into the playoffs, but next weeks game will determine that vs. Washington&Lee who hold the ODAC top spot. If Bridgewater wins out I would assume they'll get the AQ in winning the ODAC

On another note did anyone sitting on the B-W side get as tired as me of the home teams fans yelling at the Jackets coaching staff about the play calling? Every time they ran the ball someone was not happy. Do they realize if they threw it on every play their QB would have been sacked even more than the seven times he already was.  You have to at least try to keep a defense honest.

Yeah, sorry about that. But if it's 3rd and 11 (was 2nd and 8 before they did a run), and you're averaging 3 yards a carry and you choose to run the ball, you're not going to get showered with affection for making that play call. That and BW chose to run on second down at least 80% of the time, making it very predictable (and it was almost alwys a run up the middle at that).

You also have to keep in mind that after the fumble that eventually made the score 14-0 at the half, it was very hard for us BW fans to see them continue to try and run the ball up the middle when it obviously wasn't working.

I agree with Ric and Toph in that BWs defense was very good and should be confident in their ability. However it just seemed like everytime Mount Union got a little momentum going, the refs were just not going to let em. To be fair, I went to MUCs website and saw the crew that worked the game were veterans of quite a few MUC home games, including playoff games. These guys are no rookies. Maybe we were that sloppy. The films will bear that out and LK will do whats necessary.

As for Garcon pushing off on the TD, There was contact while the ball was in the air. It looked to me as if Pierre did a little slow down to try to draw the interference call. Either that or he just was positioning himself so that only he was going to be able to get to the ball if he had to lay out for it. Thats a big time receiving move. That may be why BW chose to tackle our receivers on pass plays just a little early. Oh well, no call.

And I agree that the Frosh QB played with much heart, and next year I nominate him as Pentellos replacement as the QB most likely to beat Moujnt Union... given enough chances to do so. Was it just me, or did anyone else sense that the Refs
were going to make it tough on BW as well in the 4th quarter?

Thoght I was the only one that noticed that. Maybe the refs appeared biased in favor of BW inthe first half, but once the 4th quarter hit they were callign anything against BW that looked even remotely close to a penalty, and I could no onger point out where the penalties were like I could with some of MUc's early ones.

Still, I was surprised how well Garcon was covered by BW, he was pretty much a non-factor. It was Kmic that gave them problems.

The Mount Union JV team won in their final game of the season this afternoon at Wash & Jeff  47-7.

Any suggestions for an OAC poll this week?

Since the spread is out for the MUC/Cap Game, I think you know what to post...#1 vs. #4, let's hope the game lives up to the expectation of the hype this game has been receiving since Cap lost the playoff to MUC in 2005

I thought that BW played a  decent game defensively and the pass defense was  good....I hate to see people blaming the officials and not giving the opponent props..

It is possible that Mount does deserve the penalties...IMO Garcon did indeed push off on the TD, but they were fighting both ways and PG got the last push....

I thought VK had a unsportsmanlike penalty angrily going onto the field  after the interference call, but they gave him a sideline warning...that was a gift...

The crew was the same crew that we had for our last home game...

Monty's biggest win to date and a comeback at that..Great Job Monty...

Felt bad for #12..a very reliable return man...wind a factor??  The BW punter was as good as I have seen in the OAC for many years...I think someone on the board had mentioned him and the info was accurate

The best call of the game...the middle screen which probably should have went for six..

I am still amazed at the speed of the defense and team play on that side of the ball...Rocky better be ready to scramble Saturday....he could be in for a very busy day...

What happened to ONU....
