GO RAIDERS OAC CHAMPS ....AGAIN!

15 Straight OAC Championships - Simply Amazing

I think I'll put on my old "Back to Back OAC Champs" hat and go rake leaves ;D
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

any thoughts on BW chances on making it to the playoffs.  If they beat Cap next week, do they get the spot over Cap on a pool C bid, or has Cap basically clinched a spot already?

cu parent

I think it is a must win for Capital this weekend at BW. Capital has a few players coming back from injuries now. That will help. The injury bug bit real bad.

Ric

I would like to think the winner of the Cap - BW game makes the playoff. I'd also like to think Cap would get in with a loss at 8-2, with what would amount to both loses coming against playoff teams.  But what I like and what actually happens isn't always the same.

Wizardman

I'd say that this is prety much a must-win for both BW and Capital next week. Winner makes the playoffs, t's tough to say if the loser does. If BW loses, they're out. If Capital loses, they may get a pool C bid. If BW wins though, there's no true guarantee if every other 1-loss team pulls out a win.

As for Dfensive POY, Obviously Kostelnik,Stickley, both Trusniks, and Berger. Don't know about Capital's D yet.

I was doing some thinking today (always a dangerous thing) while I was woking on cleaning up the leaves in my yard.  "Why do we keep having these 100+ yards of penalties game after game??"  After the smoke stopped coming out of my ears, I had a thought--I don't know if there is any validity to it, but I thought I would put it out there for debate:

When Monty left for places south, many of us were afraid that we would see a big drop off in the defense for good ol' MUC.  That has not proven to be the case.  But what we have seen since his departure is a real increase in the number of penalties--especially personal fouls--unsportsmanlike conduct, late hits, etc.  Last week I watched a d-back smash into one of the Capital receivers a good three seconds after the touchdown had been awarded--and he was left in the game without even getting a talking to from the coaches.

Maybe what we really lost was the sense of civility and discipline that Monty brought to both sides of the ball.  Monty was always kind of a "dad" to alot of the players.  In talking to players across the years (when Monty was here), many said they were "afraid" of pissing off LK, but that they didn't ever want to disappoint Monty.   I know that in my own life I have always been less worried about pissing someone off than I have been about disappointing someone.

I fondly remember being proud of our team's attitude on the field--always finding a ref to hand the ball to after the play--acting like they had been in the end zone before (and that they had expected to get there this time).  And when they occasionally didn't act that way, it seemed like the wrath of God would come down on them--I distinctly remember BJ Payne being hauled out of a close game a told to sit his a** down on the bench after a personal foul (I could hear the coach all the way up in the stands).

When did it become okay for one of our players to run up to the crowd after a TD and thump their chest and strike a pose?  Isn't that the kind of stuff we used to berate Rowan for when KKeeler was their coach?

When and how did we get to the point where our coaches say to the media that the players are playing with intensity so penalties are expected?  I understand the occasional illegal procedure--even the occasional holding call, but I can not and do not understand the plethora of holding and personal fouls that we have faced for the past couple of years--especially the personal fouls.

It's not just the refs--it's our players and their attitudes--and the fact that their behavior doesn't seem to be disappointing anyone (except their fans).
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

glad to see I got a few people riled up... good to see people on here can get fired up a little bit... hey sidekick  Rocky vs. Ditka who would win...

any how cannot wait for the great football that will be played this weekend... The game will be Caps offense vs BW's defense... Although i would have to say  they did put some points on the board against ott... Last season BW did not have any offense against Cap and seem to have improved... ill have to do a little scouting since the BW vs ott game is being shown tonight on Sports Time Ohio..

I think BW gets in with a win although its not a sure thing (nothing with the committee is). there are 9 teams w 1 Loss looking at 7 spots and 4-5 of them play tough games this weekend. BW is clearly the top 2 loss team in line and if bw beats cap I would agree w Ric that cap is the #2 2 loss team available. the north region committee has positioned franklin to get in ahead of BW but i don't think that matters either. some of these 1 loss teams will fall saturday and the cap/bw winner will be in the playoffs. both of them in should probably happen but it is likely a stretch.

aprof:
Could not have said it better myself. I had thought maybe it was the number of younger players on the field trying to impress - but Mount has always had the younger players in for at least half of a game. Maybe it is a little of that but I think the absence of Monty certainly figures in. Monty was old school - and his "replacements" are much younger. Maybe that is why this type of football has become acceptable - granted they played for Monty so one would hope his influence would have rubbed off a bit.

SPORTSMANSHIP- something the coaches are not teaching. Mount has a great football team and if they go to the Stagg Bowl I would like them to represent the OAC with class. That is something that I have not seen from Mount. Glad to see a Mount poster not blaming the refs.

Ric

I disagree. Mount Union has always had a high number of penalties and I remember LK's response once when I asked him about it.  He said, "Sometimes an agressive player gets a penalty a non-agressive player would not.  If a wide receiver is not blocking he will never be called for an illegal block."

How many games in a row has Mount had 100+ yards in penalties? Four? And how many of those penalties were unsportsmanlike? Some games a few, some games none. I remember a year in the early 90's that there were a high number of late hit type penalties during the year and Monty was here then.

There were two late hit penalties this week, one each way.  And how many were there against Capital, one? The only one against BW was a roughing the passer, so that is two in three games?  I can tell you the coaching staff is much more concerned with the holds that happen away from the play and bring a large gain back.

One more point, its crap like this that just pisses me off. Cu Parent, your coment, "I would like them to represent the OAC with class. That is something that I have not seen from Mount" is nothing but bullcrap. BULLCRAP. Don't exagerate sir.  When you say something like  "not seen" what is your time frame? Ever? And just how many times have you seen Mount play?

I would suggest to you your two or three regular season games, maybe, and your playoff game, does not qualify a comment like that.  I also would suggest you will find 99% of the teams that Mount Union has played in the playoffs or championship games would say they were complete class, especially the games they lost.

Oh, one more point. In last year's Mount-Cap playoff game, Capital had more penalites and more yards. Mount was penalized three times for 25 yards.  So really where do you get off making a crappy comment like that? Stick to what you know and leave the crap off the board, please. Thank you!

Well I just got past the first comment and now noticed this one... "SPORTSMANSHIP- something the coaches are not teaching."

Really, and you would know this how? I'm going to stop calling you sir.  I don't call people that make idiotic comments sir.

JCU did a great job yesterday, and I will not take the easy "Mount had on off day"...They were out of sync in the passing game, however, I think John Carroll did the best job of stopping the run as anybody this season.  I also think the JCU  soph QB has a great future and could, with support, make them legitimate in the near future.

It did appear that Jorris may have been out late...

I am taking BW this week.  I think they have been playing better, but don't know Cap's injury situation.  As a Mount fan, I would rather play CAP again than BW, if we both get that far in the playoffs.

I don't know which Mountie wants to play St. John's...I for one think they have prepared and played us as good or better than anyone over the years...

I would like to have been a mouse in the locker room at halftime yesterday...it was obvious that LK was really pissed about the penalties....

The lost TD on the Garcon hold away from the play was a tough one, but the wide receivers are very proud of their blocking downfield.... Garcon, however, does seem to get more than his share of laundry....I still think his celebrating bleeds into showboating and  is classless.  I hope it does not cost Mount dearly in the future...I also notice a little trash talking that wasn't obvious in the past, but does not mean it did not happen....I firmly believe that any of that stuff should be penalized as that is the only was to stop it...

On the bomb that Garcon did not get, from my angle  I thought the DB did a great job of staying close and stripping him...

maybe Mr Garcon is wishing and hoping that he was in D1...
