joelmama i thought what he said was funny... I have nothing bad to say about BW.. they are playing good football at the moment and their defense is tough.. i was able to catch the game this weekend... #72 is a beast and I believe is only a soph... Bw's linebackers come down hill

BW's offense has been inconsistent this year.  They've had a few games where they've moved the ball and put up some pretty big numbers and some other games where the offense looked nonexistent.  The defense has been solid all season.  I think as long as the offense gets near their season scoring average (around 23 points), the Jackets win this game.

If BW needs 23 points to win, they will be in trouble...the last thing BW wants is a shoot-out.  Keep the clock in their favor & win with Hedges wearing down the defense.  If this happens, it could be a long day for Capital.  Also, I believe Alexander will back in uniform, though I am not sure if he is 100% right now??

I think they can win a lower scoring game and anything like a 13-10 game would obviously favor the Jackets, but I wanted to give some credit to Capital's offense.  However, after watching BW play Mount, I think their defense can shut down any team.  It would be nice to get 17-24 points from the offense though and give the defense a little help.

They did hold MU to 14 but they also gave up 37 to Etta and 31 to the Otters with Otterbein's second string QB at the helm.

Teams appear to have success throwing the ball so hopefully Cap will air it out 35-40 times this weekend and pull out the W.

The Raiders have clinched a playoff spot...do they bring the jv squad to play Marietta?

Oops, wrong head coach listed for Etta in Mount's game notes.

I thought it was funny too.  Anything that talks about how ugly the steaming piles unis are is good by me.

"Holding COULD be called on EVERY play". We ve all heard it, and unfortunately it is all too true. Part of the blame is because of the rules changes that allow for open hand and extended arm blocking. (Imagine the old days if you were caught with a hand on an opponents back, much less an extended arm or open hand. Instant flag.) This gives the Refs latitude and discression on almost every play to allow or disallow the result of every down. In my opinion that is a ton of power, and they are not shy about wielding it. It is part of the game now and you have to roll with it. The late hits are another matter. The whistle blows...you stop....simple. Agression tempered with intelligence and discipline. We CAN do that.  Some of the late hits are simply PAYBACK from a previous play.  The Refs have a tool called EJECTION, which they seldom choose to use, exacerbationg the situation. The next step will be NBA style TEAM FOULS where there will be a cumulative effect. Just what we need....another rule change.

Good point, but their inconsistencies were all with Mental earlier in the season. They've been great with Gardner the freshmen if you take out the MUC game. But yeah, BW has, imo, the most underrated pass defense in the league. Other than a long TD pass they pretty much shut down Garcon, which went pretty unnoticed but will be a big factor in Saturday's game.

Note: i may be watching the Bw-Cap game from the concession stands. If I am I'll let you know so you guys can say hi, lol.

Wizardman good luck to your Jackets this saturday.  I never make predictions but I have this feeling that there could be an upset brewing in Berea.  Cap has an excellent team this year but  they don't seem as balanced this year as last.  Coach Snell seems to plan well in big games.  He certainly is enthusiastic on the side lines.  I guess it comes down to who really wants it more.  November is the month when upsets seem to occur more than  any other time.  And now for my platitude of the day, Here's to a well fought game, free of injuries and may the best team win.

I am not sure what you are referring to about Mental and Gardner.  Are you saying their inconsistencies were in the early part of the season, and they are now great with Gardner??  What about the Ott game??  Mental & the offense looked pretty good & Gardner didn't play at QB, or did I miss him??  Also, I believe Ott put 300+ on the most underrated pass defense in the league with their 3rd string QB.  Did I miss your point here??

The only thing I know, is this will be a great fball game, and everyone will be ready to play & be well prepared.

QuoteAnd that especially includes Garcon.  He is a blocking madman, poser or no poser.

Unfortunately for you (and the rest of Mount Union's fans) he gets called for holding more than any other receiver I've ever seen...including 40 yards away from a touchdown run on Saturday.

I will say this, last Saturday I heard a LOT of complaining from Mount fans about the officials.  One Mount fan asked me "Did you bring the officials on the bus with you?"  I didn't even bring up the fact that I came in a car...not on the bus ;).  I did, however, ask him what calls he had a problem with (in my opinion the the officials did a decent job on Saturday...maybe JCU could've been called for a couple holding penalties that weren't called)...his response "Oh, you must be too far away to see."

Really, Saturday was the first time I've heard folks going crazy complaining about fair catch interference.  Let me spell this out for those fans:  The officials don't have anything agaisnt Mount Union.  Once more:  The officials don't have anything against Mount Union.  The Raiders have always been called for a lot of penalties, and this year is no exception.  This complaining about officials has almost gotten to the point of the basketball Elite Eight 3 years ago when Wooster fans alleged that John Carroll paid off the officials in the contest (right, jdean?).  Give it a rest.

Rocky's apostles-
Since JCU played Mount closer than Capital...does that make Petruziello the greatest player in the history of football?

I will say that Petruziello is the best looking QB in the league right now that is coming back for 2007.  Assuming Rocky doesn't pention the NCAA for a record 12th year.

reality check

Pankratz has a bright future for ONU and has shown me some good things platooning with Quirk for the Polar Bears.  I also like the fact that ONU loses basically noone on offense for 2007 and has one big hole to fill at each level in the defense means 2007 will be another year where they can make a run at Mount and maybe the playoffs.

With Gunter and Meadows back at full strength and everyone back on the offensive side of the ball, I expect big things in 2007 from my Bears.
