And second team Zimmerman is 69 of 71 PAT's and almost identical in FGs. Go figure (or not)

Let me shed some light on the OAC honors voting. 1. Age is a big factor, a senior will win an award over a freshman even if the freshman is better 2. It doesn't matter how good you are if you are hurt, Garcon was a second team selection last year and he was undoubtedly the best WR in the nation. He received second team because he was hurt for 3 or 4 games. 3. All the OAC coaches think they have the best players, so they vote for their own kids instead of another teams, when in reality one team could have 8 or 9 of the best players at their position in the conference but they try to spread the votes around so every team gets some love. 4. Some times the best players get over looked for awards aka kostelnik. He did't win the db award because they said otte had better stats then him. Otte had more tackles then Kostelnik, that tells me that wilmingtons defense isn't very good, nothing more. I dont agree with that. Rocky should have won the Mike Gregory Award hands down... No one deserved it more then him...(not even Kmic). Justin Wray is a 1st team selection i don't care what anyone say. Someone name a team that he wouldn't start on besides Mount. Jorris helped win Mount a national championship last year and broke a record in the game. Marietta's Qb did...................? Exactly. Jonah Wilson is the best corner in the OAC.... if not, tell me who is better. I said it before, stats are not everything!

Thanks for shedding some light for all of us that have followed the OAC for so long.  We never knew how the voting worked until you shared your insight.

Your comment about Garcon, while it makes sense in theory, is blown out of the water with the nomination this season of RJ Meadows.  Normally the injury effects your placement but that certainly wasn't the case with Meadows this year.  Wray wouldn't start over Meadows IMO either.  And I also think you'd be hard pressed to find a better shutdown corner than Steve Gunter but his injury prevented most of the OAC from seeing what he could do.

Zimmerman should have been 1st team and I think ONU's Jake Heaphy kicked better than Spitz this year as well (15-15 PAT and 8-9 FG).  He was hurt by missing a couple games and an enemic offense but the kid's the best thing ONU's had since JR (Gary) Cipra.

The young man across the street from me went to ONU with the idea of trying out as a FG kicker. After two practices with Jake Heaphy he decided his future was in baseball. :'(

I wasn't trying to belittle anyone with the comment of me shedding light, i didn't say people on this board did't know what they were talking about, i was merely trying to break it down for people who might not know as much as the rest of you. I of course knew that someone with your vast knowledge would know everything there is to know about whatever is being talked about reality...

Article in the Canton Repository on Mount Union:

Mount's depth still is a key

WOW!!!!!
If the democrats think they were robbed in the Florida Presidential election a few years ago, they need to talk to Rocky Pentello.  The Gagliardi finalists were named and the OAC representative is Chad Otte of WILMINGTON!!!!  I thought the award was for best player in the nation, no offense to this kid or his team, but he wasn't the best player in his league, or even at his own position.  I've seen Cap play Wilmington four times in four years and I never even heard this guys name.  Best player in the nation means make your team better, can any of us REALLY say this guy did this for a TERRIBLE Wilmington team.  D-III voting is a joke.  Rocky FINALLY got first team, "so to keep him in his place" he isn't among the finalists for national player of the year even though we have had "great" QBs like Zac Bruney and Doug Phillips as finalists.
I'd like to know the criteria since all the kid has done is start every game for four straight years (yes, he has only played four years and one game he was injured), break every school and league passing record (minus TDs), take a middle of the road program and turn it into a national contender,  win back-to-back years ATONU, win a huge game AT JCU, and win AT BW with a playoff berth on the line, he beat three Gagliardi finalists head-to-head last year, and has played well AT Mount for two straight seasons.  The kid has better career numbers than than any active player in college football (including Brady Quinn, which one t.v. broadcast messed up) in fewer games.  And honestly, he gives his team a chance to win every game he plays in.  Did anyone ever worry about playing Capital before Rocky arrived on campus and did anyone really fear playing Wilmington this year because Chad Otte was roaming the secondary.
After three straight second-team all-league selections, which was an absolute joke, I didn't think Rocky would get any more slaps in the face.  But, boy was I wrong.  I hope the next time Coach Collins gets a truly great player he lets him play.  Since numbers are so important when it is convienent, I hope Coach Collins let's his next great player play into the third and fourth quarter and put up gigantic numbers.  If you were at any of Cap's first five or six games this year or in years past you would know that given the opportunity, 8 td's and 500 yards were possible every single game against some of these teams.  So I say go for it, maybe then your players will get the recognition they have earned and deserved.
Imagine, the all-time OAC league leader in every passing category except touchdowns in which he is second with over 100 and not a Gagliardi finalist, let alone winner.  You think that would happen if the QB was from MOUNT.  Right!!!!!  Oh, I forgot, the records Rocky broke, Borchert and Ballard, Gagliardi winners!!!!  You do the math.
Congratulations Rock!!!  You deserve it.  Now take care of business this weekend so you can have one more shot at MOUNT!!!!!!!
GO CAPITAL!!!!!

I agree Rocky is one of the best players in the country....but grades and off the field contributions are also considered.

From the website (http://www.gojohnnies.com/gagliardi_trophy/default.htm):

"The Gagliardi Trophy was first presented in 1993 to the Outstanding Division III football player of the year by Jostens and the J-Club of Saint John's University. Since that time, the award has become one of the leading collegiate football awards and is widely recognized as the premier individual award in Division III football, honoring excellence in athletics, academics and community service."

It is not just for the performance on the field...

WOW!!!!!
I've seen Cap play Wilmington four times in four years and I never even heard this guys name.

I don't know much about Otte but you might want to know he led Wilmington with 10 tackles and 2 break ups in this year's game against CAP, led the team with 13 tackles and a FF in last year's game with CAP, led the team in tackles with 16 and a pass breakup in the 2004 game against CAP and had 5 tackles a breakup and a FF in his freshman year against CAP.  He has 45 career tackles against CAP alone.  Does he play for a bad team?  YES.  Should a DB lead his team in tackles?  PROBABLY NOT.  But I'm guessing the PA announcer took the day off if you never heard the guy's name considering he led the Quackers in tackles three out of his four years against you.

Also, and this is just a guess, but I think Pentello was disqualified for his bid for the Gagliardi because of the community service aspect.  While the other finalists volunteered at retirement homes, Rocky was just admitted and given a room which doesn't quite count the same.

Way too much favoritism and politics in all-league voting.

Let's play a game.  Who am I?

I won player of the year this season at my position.
In my two biggest games this season, I had 1 tackle and ZERO tackles and lost
        both games.
My team had a better record last year WITHOUT me (including a win over the #1
team in the country) than they had this year WITH me.
Who am I?

If you said Jason Trusnik, you are right.  Sound like a reputation and politics vote to you?

And any statement that you give awards based on player ability without considering injury is ridiculous.  You have to play in the games to be productive.  If not, give first team and the Tressel award to Kyle Hausler of Capital.  He won it last year and is a three time All-American.  He is the best DB in the league, so if injuries don't matter, it shouldn't matter he only got to play in 2 games.  Otte should send him a thank you note and Christmas card because that award is his without the injury.

Reality Check,
Pretty funny statement about Rocky, but I was just wondering why you always have a smarta** comment about Capital players? I never see you writing anything about Mount Union. Are you still intimidated by them? You had friends that played at Cap and yet you still show the little class that ONU has by continuing to poke fun at Rocky's status and other things. I thought as a GCL alum you would have had a little more sense than to keep making fun of someone for thier accomplishments. Give credit where credit is due and cheer on your fellow OAC'ers that are still playing.

On a side note, it's good to see your boy Anthony Turner playing for BG.

Funny you talk about injuries and how they should/should not be considered regarding all-OAC voting and call out Jason Trusnik who injured his shoulder on the first series of the Mount Union game and played the rest of the game as a decoy.  Needless to say he was still injured against Capital but ignorance is bliss right?
