So now its Beaver vs Kmic.   Well all I know is Kmic won the last battle on the field.
But on another note    It would not surprize me to see the Johnnies upset Mr. Beaver et al  along with their coach of the year at helm.   Gags will be ready , what I don't know is what kind of talent they have this year.  This will be the  kick ass game on Saturday.  If Mt. continues, they could be facing St. Johns again.

Another key to Capital's easy win was Charlie Smith.  Early in the game tdubs and I were talking about in the past he has gone down too easily.  But that proved to be wrong.  He kept getting three, four yards after first contact.  Those yards are gonna be huge this weekend.

The defense was impressive.  The Hauslers simply take away most of the deep field and they hit as well.  I could name several guys on defense, but was really impressed with Andriacco and Starks.  Also Coleman seems to always be near the ball.

Was also impressed with #69, a freshman(there are two listed on roster, but I think its Robert Trombley).  He did a great job playing on the o-line in the 2nd half.

blind_side,

Won't be making it up this weekend.  My best friend who lives in Myrtle Beach is going to be coaching in the state championship game on Friday night, plus I am helping someone move on Saturday.

Without being a complete wise ass, another key to Capital's easy win was that they were playing an unranked team that Wheaton beat. The level of competition in the North bracket beyond "us" (OAC) ain't that great.

Should be a great game next week after a couple of sleepers

As much as I hate to actually agree with a wise ass, but I concur!!

NCC played hard, but was no where near as good as advertised!!  Kniss is a good QB, but nothing more...would have liked to see Sulo play more, but he left the game with a concussion.  Kniss had no help to keep this game close.  The speed of Cap was a huge difference maker!!

Before we hear another Mount Union fan make another Rocky is old joke, real creative by the way, let's state facts.
Stickley has been playing for Mount as long as Rocky has been at Cap and I believe he is older.
Also, Shaun Spisack was a starter for FIVE years at Mount but no one up there complained about that.
Mount players routinely get extra years, but when Joel Sickmeir, a Mount transfer and the best LB in the OAC last year, applied for an extra year, eliminating Cap's biggest defensive weakness, a tough run stopping middle LB, Mount would have none of that.
Even though he only played 2 games at Mount one season.  I am pretty sure if he would have been wearing Mount purple instead of Capital purple, that extra year would have been had.

Enough of that nonsense, Kudos to Cap and their staff for perhaps their best game of the season.  The play calling has been aggressive and Coach Collins is allowing his best player to win or lose games for him.  They are using the pass to set-up the run and both aspects are benefiting from it.  Charlie Smith has been running angry and has been playing great.  The line is opening holes and giving Rocky time to throw.  The receivers are getting open and making plays. However, there are still too many drops (one sure TD and two off hands or face masks for picks) to have a chance to beat Mount.  Rocky is simply playing lights out.  If Kniss is a Gagliardi finalist then Rocky should be in New York for the Heisman presentation.  Kniss is a good player, but the difference between him and Rocky is the same as the difference between the OAC and CCIW.  NO CONTEST.

The Cap defense had their hardest hitting game of the season.  The DBs especially brought the wood.  They will need that and much much more to have a chance Saturday.  I'd still like to see them be more aggressive and force some mistakes.  They have to force turnovers to have a chance to win and if they continue to allow Kmic & Co. to run and control the clock, Cap's chances seriously diminish.  I would crowd the box, especially on the edges, and force Mount to throw.  I know they ARE capable, but if I had to pick my poison, I would try to stop the run and bring all kinds of pressure on Jorris.  At least by passing, Mount would be playing to Cap's defensive strength, their DBs.  Jorris is very effective in the pocket, but the times I have seen him, he, like most QBs, has problems with pressure.  He is not the most mobile guy in the world and I would rather him beat us than Kmic.  They already proved they could beat us running the ball the first game.  Stack the box and take your chances.  If you stop the run and make them one-dimensional, you have a chance.
I'd also like to see nickel and dime out of Cap.  CJ Steele and Marcus McDonough (if healthy) have played extensively and well this season when others were out with injury.  Marcus has started numerous games in his career (including last year's playoff game against Mount) and CJ started all season while Kyle Hausler was hurt.  Both have played well and their speed and versatility would give Mount something else to deal with they haven't seen on film.  Tony Hessel is another wild card.  He has played well when used as 3rd down specialist.  He made plays Saturday and especially against Ohio Northern early in the year.
The defense has the athletes to compete with Mount and I expect a better game than in the regular season.  The keys will be up front in the trenches and turnovers.  If Cap can win either or both of those battles, they have a chance.

GO CAP!!!!  EXPECT TO WIN and SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!!

cheer loud?  Saturday marked the first time I have ever watched a Capital game from the bleachers.  Capital certainly had a sedate, quiet crowd.  Which is why in a previous post, I advocate for the return of the jazz band that played during my years at Capital.  I also miss the parents who led the "Move the Chains!" chants.  Heard a few faint "Move the chains!!" chants Saturday and warmed my heart along with Willis, and Vickroy.

I don't think there is a darn thing accurate in your first paragraph dabein.  If you are going to try to argue your point at least pick something accurate to argue it with.

Stickley is a fifth year senior this year.  He requested an injury year and received it following last season because his first year at Mount, 2002, he was injured and did not appear in one game.

There are lots of guys that are at a school five years.  Pentello is one, his name has been around forever because he has made plays each of his years at Capital and is a four year starter.  He is so good he has been at the top of the OAC for four years and that is not something that happens often.  The stupid jokes should be flattering, but you take them as such an insult you make crap up to argue your point.

As for Spisak, he was at Mount five years because he was granted an injury year as well.  He was not a five year starter, he was not even a four year starter. He did play in four seasons but was not a starter his freshman year and he lost his starting spot midway though his sophomore season.  He played in two games in 2001 before being injured, well within the NCAA guidelines for injuries even today.  Pentello benefited from the same rule.

I don't know the particulars for Sickmeier (the least you could do is spell his name right) but he transferred from Mount Union to Capital.  You do know about the OAC transfer rule right?  Sickmeier was a sophomore in 2002 after which he transferred.  If you are suggesting the NCAA would grant him an injury year if he had stayed at Mount but didn't because he was at Capital then I don't even know what to say about something that stupid.

Do us all a favor, including the nice people at Capital University that you embarrass every time you open your mouth, either get your facts straight or just shut up!

Congrats to Cap on a nice win. You definitely out hit NCC on Saturday. I never thought that could happen. No one hit us like that all year! Our team felt that we were very prepared. Obviously, not as well as you. It appeared as if your defense was in our (no) huddle. Our defense had no answer to some of your offensive plays.
Your team speed was also impressive.
Those judging Kniss after only Saturday's game, shouldn't. While he was not overly impressive on Saturday, he is an EXCELLENT qb. Even the greatest qb's have had mediocre games. Kam did not have one of his better days. I think a lot of that had to do with the surge your d line was getting up field.
You out hit us.
You out played us.
And, we were out coached. Obviously, you made greater strides than we did over this past year!
Good luck the rest of the way!

Ric

One other thing. I don't think a Capital win would shock the world. Does anyone else?  After all, they almost beat Mount last year and its not like Mount has won 55 straight games.  They've only won one national title in the last three years, so if they do not win it this year, I would not call that shocking the world.  Unless you think Capital has no chance and it would be a "shock the world" type win in your mind.

RIC

Once again you totally miss the point.  The point is all Mount fans make fun of Rocky's age and his four years and ONE game of playing even though Mount has benefited from the fifth year as much or more than anyone.  To say it is flattering is nieve and assinine.  Mount people have nothing flattering or complimentary to say about Rocky.  Perhaps you don't read this board or maybe you should come out of your comfortable little press box and hear your CLASSY fans.  The old man jokes are old and uncreative.  You might have the number one team in the country but your fans need to work on their originality and creativity for upcoming opponents.

I do mean SHOCK THE WORLD.  Can CAP win, YES, by all means.  They could have easily won last year.  But, to the most arrogant fans in the country and other who write and follow D-3 football, any Mount defeat, especially before the championship game would be a shock.  Don't go and be all politically correct now when being cocky and over confident has served you so well in the past.  People like you and all your other raider fan buddies are the reason a win this Saturday would be soooooooo much sweeter.

AGAIN.  GO CAP!!!!  Expcect to Win and SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!!!  C U Saturday!

skunks_sidekick

CAP fans just kill me.  I get it though.  You are the new "cute girl at the dance".  You are always worried that someone is going to find you out and prove that you don't belong there.  Hey.....as far as D-III is concerned there is no doubt in my mind you are one of the best 8 teams in the nation.  And...further more....you have been the last two years.  (Well...you didn't need ME to tell you that...it's called the PLAY-OFFS.)

However.....you must beat the man to be the man.  If you do this coming Saturday, I will be the first to congratulate your team for finally climbing that mountain which is called MOUNT UNION.  Stranger things have happened (ONU last year), but as a Mount fan, and as someone who has watched the last three MUC vs. CAP games, I don't see it happening Saturday.  I don't think you can stop our running game, and I KNOW we can stop yours.  We have proven we can consistently put pressure on Rocky, and as good as he is, he makes mistakes when he is pressured regularly (like almost any QB does).

I just want to comment on how proud I am to be a graduate of Capital and an ex-football player.

Due to some things I was doing at home in Ashtabula I didnt get to leave til 9 am.  Got to campus a few minutes before noon, so I had to wait in line for tickets.  It was during that wait that I started to think about how far Capital has come.  It took me back to my senior year in high school when my father and I sat in the lounge outside the coaches offices across the street from the current facility(the building now is home ot the School of Management.) Only Collins and defensive coordinator Joe Loth had their own offices.  The rest of the staff had desks scattered in small classroom.  I thought back to my senior year in high school on my recruiting visit when I heard Jim Collins and offensive line coach Matt Collins speak about how excited they were about his opportunity and how far the program was going to go.  After meeting with Matt Collins, I remember my dad telling me that he was ready to go hit hit the sled and that he really felt that Capital was his favorite spot.

The beautful facility(opened my senior year), the hosting of a 2nd round play-off game, ticket line almost to the corner, respect nationally and regionally from those in the know, and various other things really exhibit how far Capital has come and how great of a job Jim Collins has done.  I give so much credit to AD Roger Welsh and the others on the committee that hired Collins.  A young, energetic, hard-working guy like him was the right choice and he has showed it.

Thinking back at some of the creativity he and his staff showed as they developed lifting and conditioning programs with facilities that many Divison 5 and 6 high school programs would have turned their noses up at, really has me wondering why myself and many others chose Capital.  The answer is simple, we saw that Collins bleieved in what he was doing and knew how he was going to do it.  Despite not getting a winning record at Capital til his 5th season there(2001), he never lost the faith and kept working and kept his staff and team working, never losing site of developing a national program.  I always remember him talking about how lucky we were to be in the OAC.  Every year we got at least one or two chances to see how we compared to the best teams in the nation.  His positive attitude and refusal to feel sorry for himself have served him and Capital well.  I hope to stop by his office when I visit Capital in 5, 10, 15, 20 years.

I am happy to see increased Capital participation on this board and love that our fans expect national success and what not.  I know that myself, capfan, crusader26, JK, tdubs and anyone else  from the Capital dark ages probably sometimes find themselves pinching themselves and just waiting to wake up from this dream.  I love that we now have "agitators" like capmom, 2minuteO, blind_side, and dabein22(still dont know how a Capital fan has "bein" in his handle, but oh well).  Its just further shows how far we have come. And the 5 losses in the "Pentello Era" show how far we still have to come.  Hopefully it remains at 5 losses.  Can't imagine Rocky Pentello graduating without beating MUC.  Then again I am sure many thought the same of Larlham at BW and Arth at JCU.

Go Capital and beat Mount Union and get us one step closer to the vision Jim Collins brought to campus in 1997.

Rocky Pentello is one of the greatest QBs in OAC history.

Hey look a Mount fan saying something "flattering and complimentary" about Rocky.

Why is he one of the best, well his stats back up.  Over 12,000 career passing yards is very impressive.  He is the Mike Gregory Award winner for best offensive back and a first team all-OAC selection this year.  Having wathced him play three times, I'll say this, he is great on the field leader and very tough.  He took a huge hit this year against Mount and was right back in there on the next play.  In last year's playoff game against Mount he showed his grit and will to win although he came up just short.  In this season's earlier matchup his best wide receiver was neurtalized with a pregame injury, the weather undoubtedly played a factor and of course the nonexistant running game and Cap's inability to stop Nate Kmic on defense all had a hand in the defeat.  I would say he is quite possibly playing his best football right now with 822 yards and 8 TDs in his last 2 games.  In order to win on Saturday, Rocky will need to continue to play well and will need support from the running game and the defense.  If Cap can't stop the Raider rushing attack or get theirs going it will be very difficult for Cap to win no matter how good Rocky is playing.

Oh and I almost forgot the reason for all those jokes about Rocky is well one, because it is easy, and two, as Ric pointed out, Rocky has had success for all FOUR years he has played, something that is very rare.  Also a contributing reason for the jokes, is his year at Toledo, where he didn't play, which if I'm not mistaken, makes this his sixth year in college.

Moving on, dabein you called Mount fans arrogant.  Now from my experience with fans of another Ohio football team that is number 1 in the country and certain a Pennsylvanian football team that won a championship a year ago, I would say that any team that has tremendous success year in and out is going to have some cocky and arrogant fans.  Mount fans expect the Raiders to win week in and week out just as any other fan of any other successful team will.  I can understand why so many fans of other OAC schools dislike Mount and their fans because lets face it, Mount wins and has dominated the OAC for 15 years.  I'm sure you feel the same way about Mount as many do about the New York Yankees.  However, after hearing a "start the bus" chant last week, I have come to the conclusion that a majority of the cocky and arrogant fans just happen to sit right next to the fans of the visiting team.  I'm sure others could tell you about how classy and friendly most Mount fans are better than I could and it just seems you let your experience with a small portion of Mount fans effect your view of all Mount fans.

With that being said, I wish the best of luck to Capital and Mount this week and let's all hope for a game that can be as competitive and entertaining as last year's playoff game.
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.

There has been talk of the "best back in the nation" on this site, and it seems like a few of the gurus are stating that Beaver is the best ???

I have only seen one post from a "guru" on this subject and it was Keith McMillan stating that Justin Beaver AND Nate Kmic were the best backs he's seen.

Perhaps you should try some facts before you stir up a bunch of ****.
