Wow!  I should have guessed it would take a great writer like Terry Pluto to really get at the core that is LK.  Fantastic article!

Thanks for the link to the article on Justin Stickley who would have been All-World on any other D3 team where he didn't have to share props with Kostelnik, Vucelich and others. I love to watch him play, especially on special teams.

Please don't be confused.  That helmet under my name isn't purple and it says "Go Bears!" for a reason.  So Mount is definitely not "my" team.  I'm just supporting my conference as I do this time of year, every year.

I appreciate the fact that you think SJF would play Mount better but I don't think you follow enough Mount history to know what LK and crew usually do to a team the second time around.  That's all I'm going to say on that.  You're going with your heart or gut and I'm going with history.

I don't know how giving Robsinon 12 more carries would have made a difference unless he was going to break two of those for long TD's.  If you think a "grind 'em out" approach would have been successful, you are thinking about the wrong team.  It did work...unfortunately for SJF it worked for the team in purple and black though.

We'll see how it all plays out after SJF and Mount finish their home and home series.  If you guys wind up 0-3, we'll revisit that statement that you should beat a team if you get to play them enough.  The OAC has proven itself beyond Mount Union on a national scale and to say that any OAC "should be able to finally win" against Mount makes you sound like you don't know much about the prestige, success and dominance Mount has showed over the last 15 years or so.  Their success both at the national level and the conference level is unmatched in college football history and they have done it against some of the stiffest competition in division III.  It's not as if they play noone until the playoffs.  There have been years where the best team they faced in a Stagg Bowl run was a conference foe in the first half of the season.  To knock Capital for not being able to "finally beat them" as if not doing so is inexcusable, is not just a knock on Capital but also an attempt to discredit Mount's quality of wins in my opinion.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Small but Slow

LK doesn't get the media recognition, but coaches around the country know who he is and respect the job he does.

Reality check - thanks for the thoughtful dissertation but I'm going with history as well. Look what happened the second time around with Chris Sharpe & Co. at Springfield this year.

12 more runs for Robinson means that many  more plays we get positive yards - and NO SACKS. My point was to drop back and throw was foolish vs. MUC, and when you take all those sacks, plus the lost yardage it hurts momentum & confidence. I also think that in the second half as Robinson was getting more carries he was starting to get bigger chunks of yardage so yes, maybe he would have been able to rip off another 40 yarder or two- check the halftime stats for him vs. where he ended up.

I'm not saying we would come in and win in a second game - I'm saying it would have the potential to be a different outcome.

LK, as accomplished as he is, isn't the only coach in the world who adjusts after seeing a team once.

On the AFCA all americans (and in an attempt to get some of my fellow Cap posters fired up again):

No Rocky?!?!?!?!?

Of course I don't know the specifics on nominations, etc., and I am an OAC homer, but there seems to be some other OAC players worthy of recognition:

Rocky, as previously mentioned.
Jason Lewis?  I have heard several refer to him as one fo the best D3 lineman they have ever seen.
What about the punter from BW, Soflkanics?  I think his average might even be better than the kid who was AA.
Stickley?  His stats are about the same as Trusnik for this year, and although we have discussed who is better and the general consensus was Trusnik, this is about THIS YEAR, not overall.
Kostelnik?
Kmic?  Perhaps he gets left off because he is only a soph, and the team consists of 20 seniors and 5 juniors.

Again, I kow it is all opinion and nominations and the like, but I feel that there were several deserving players in the OAC who you could make an argument for over the guys who got it.  I also know the D3football.com all american team and others are not out yet, and some of these guys might appear on those, so of course we as a conference will have several other AA's.  But, still, c'mon: no Rocky?

Wrote to Terry Pluto recently and asked if he would ever write a book about Mount Union.

He replied, " Don't know about the book, but I do know I enjoy writing about Larry and Mount."

The WIAC feels your pain on the AFCA team.

Top 2 teams in the nation get 1 selection between them.

Kmic and Kleppe not on that team is a joke.

2minuteO

J Lewis- is the best
R Pentello- is the best
Stickley- is the best
Kmic- is the best

I think D3football.com will do a much better job this weekend on their selections

although i am a product of the system

Pat will the selections be on the pregame show once again

Pat Coleman

Yep, ours will be on the pregame show, probably somewhere in the 2:30-3:30 ET range.

And from perusing the discussion I expect you'll be much happier with ours.
