Jonny U-Sorry you misunderstood my comment before-I was not commenting so much because of your question on this board about the ratings, but instead I was responding to your inane comments on other threads about Mount not wanting good competition in the OAC--and how we would rather not have Sirianni back in our conference. etc.  I only wanted to respond to your garbage on one thread and chose to do it here.

Again--I urge you to go home.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

I have a friend who works for Nielson.  I'll ask him how the ratings are calculated.

But, I think the basics are that there are a certain number of Nielson "Homes" that represent a cross section of the country.  They now have electronic boxes "I think" that automatically send back the data to HQ.  So, I guess that if some of them left ESPN on in their homes, they could count.  But I'll try to get a real answer.

How were those comments inane?  All I did was state an opinion.  The least you could have done was act civil (you are a professional, aren't you?) and explain to me why MU would want more competition in the OAC.

And lets get back to the point I made.  How good do you want those bottom teams to be?  So MU can beat them 44-20 and 28-14 instead of 72-14 and 62-0?  Or how about MU loses a few games in conference a season?  Now thats competition right?

Of course MU coaches and players dont want to lose a game ever.  Sure it would be nice to go over to the WIAC board and tell them how much better your conference is from top to bottom but that isnt what the players or coaches feel Im sure.

Im guessing MU coaches and players have one goal and one goal only.  And thats to win a national championship.  Period.

What do you think will happen the day when MUs top recruit calls and says someting like "sorry coach, Im going to muskingham.  they just hired an ex MU player/coach there"  MU coaches dont want that day to ever come.

And of course they would want to see a guy like Sirianni do well no matter where he is.  But they dont want to coach against him if hes going to beat them.

So no, I wont go way.  Come up with some good points first.  (you have none)

I thought they rated them different now, but that could be right.

It was a 45 minute flight by jet from CanAk to Roanoke. An ATO had stocked the plane so there was cold beer.A Sigma Nu arranged for the car so there was no beer in the car for the ride to Larry Kerhes Stadium in Salem,to see the Larry Kerhes-Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. When I watched the tape of the game on ESPN,I nearly chocked to death laughing when the broad announcer called LK(get this) " soft spoken".I'm sure any of his former players, teamates, and coaches got a kick out of that!Pat is trying to set us up.Mount Union players and coaches know there are always five teams or so every year who can beat us.Why they don't was summed up by Coach Kerhes when he told his star players and team after the game no one's job was safe and every position was up for grabs. They doubt him not.

Kehres retires is the start of the downfall I think.

What?!  You don't think he'll have Vince trained by then to carry on the family dynasty?! ;)

P.s.  What's ONU putting on their holiday cards this year?  Just curious...

I got an advanced copy and it simply reads:

"At least we beat the Blue Streaks."

Regarding Ratings

Not claiming to be an expert but my wife lived in a Nielson house 2 years ago in Virginia for a few months during an internship.  My understanding was that the Nielson box recorded viewership during different times of the hour.  The box didn't register if the television was not turned on.  Of course people could leave their television on at all times and the station could be ESPN but I take it as a legitimate and great sign that the ratings spiked this year.

Pat Coleman

I find it interesting that the game on ESPN registered the same rating, essentially, in 1998 and 2006.

Last I saw, 73 million homes have ESPN and 62 million have ESPN2.

Division II drew an 0.91 on the deuce and I-AA did a 1.26 on Friday night.

I don't know him so I can't answer that one.  One thing that is interesting to me is that LK didn't name a DC after Monty left.  VK has been referred to as the DC, but not actually named that in the Media Guide and such.  Again, I have no inside knowledge on this, only speculation.  I just think it would be VERY difficult to follow in a legends footsteps, especially when the legend is your father.   I could be 100% wrong on this also.
