Gerald R Ford was a member of the US House of Representatives from his district in Grand Rapids when I was born. :)

When I was born, President Ford was in law school at Yale.

Love the fact were defining the new year on an ohio board discussing a michigan center.  Do Brady and Vrable have to sign off for this to officially not be grabass?

Was President Ford from the same era as Evashevski, or would Evashevski have been coaching Iowa against Ford by that time?  Still eat lunch with Evashevskis Michigan roomate occassionally.  Think his business card says established 1913, so theyd have to be damn close to being peers.

take that bucknuts...

and USC better not let me catch you slip cause thenyer slippin...

Ford and Evashevski were separated at Michigan by 6 years.

The Micheli kids good, good enough to make me forget the other qbs name and hes coming back next year, but hes confusing the orthodoxy of the short punt on earlier downs.

That thing MUC is using is shotgun spread based with a quarterback that just happens to be able to punt as opposed to a punter that is also a position player.

Googled up ol Evy and turns out he wasnt just Harmons blocking back, he was the damn qb.  Believe Rip Engle and even Princeton would have called him a boneback, but since neither New Jersey nor Happy Valleys is to be confused with Ann Arbor, Michigans A was probably more akin to wing innovation due to the withdrawal of vtrick and wedge as opposed to misdirection and creating edges on the interior with sallies and counter criss cross.

All this talk at the breakfast counter about Evashevski being a blocking back.   Always have the debate about the running qb versus the slinger that stands in the pocket to get whacked, buying just enought time to get the pass off.  Rarely has the blocking quarterback debate been brought up.  Think a few backups Springfield way might have gotten meaningful minutes for having thrown good blocks from under center. cough! cough!  Furlong and Damico.

If MUC wants to turn that short punt thing into something, theyll designate Micheli Taylor and find a Hornung to play boneback up behind one of the guards to strength.

just my two cents, Kmic would be the prototype fullback in the true A.

Guess the whole point of this rant is more about who will play boneback errr quarterback to Michelis punter position on MUCs current roster.  Garcon?  Needs to be a multiskilled individual.  A Hines Ward type....  couldnt be too slightly built, actually might prefer a roly poly, but a REAL athlete with a REAL football IQ could do some damage at that position.

Murray from Witt, who played fullback per 'A' nomenclature would have made a nasty boneback to the short punt.

Evy was also a center, and as the strong side guard in the single wing should be the best athlete, the boneback acting as guard probably made the toss sweep look like some quarterback lead option, getting many blockers to the point of attack but toeing the letter of the law with regard to vtrick.  AFterall these guys played for a Stagg UChi guy.

When will you be gracing us all with the other OAC rosters and their respective importance to their own programs by class?

RC, it probably won't be done until late winter, but I'm in the process of writing a 2007 OAC Preview article for Ric's site right now.  Won't list every single kid on the roster, but will try to analyze what's graduated, what's back and what 2007 may hold for all 10 OAC teams.

So, what could the freshman class of 2006 do to enhance Raider Tradition?  They could do a lot. They could graduate in 2010 after going where no man has gone before?  Maybe, just maybe, the PRaider's fifth Stagg Bowl in a row (Got Twelve, ND?) and 68 NCAA wins in a row.

How about we enjoy Title #9 and focus on what it will take to win #10 before we start worrying about which freshman is going to replace Kmic in 3 years?

PS Out of that list of 104, keep your eye on Cortez Jones (You heard it here)

And Vince Petruziello at WR.

Too bad his older brother chose JCU.  He's going to be a good one.

MacLeod: In 1957-58 I had access to Charlie Caldwell's 283 page definitive tome on the single wing, "Modern Single Wing Football", published in 1951. Haven't seen it since. With the perspective of time, would like to look at it again in order to see whether it might cover overlooked potential for today's shotgun option. Probably a big city library would have it. Alternatively it could be bought through Amazon at antique prices. A project for the new year.

I think you mean Rep.  Ford was never in the Senate, except as VP.

Frank, Ill check the dowtown library in Indianapolis, though its in the process of being moved to a new home, might have to wait another threemonths if they have it to find it.

Had resource to one of Tubby Raymonds last offensive tackles over the summer, but he was less than intrigued by anything wingt-ish.  Did tease me with a copy of Tubbys last playbook.  Dangled it out there for just a second.

In an article to the AFCA Tubby said the wingT came from the single wing, the a formation and the t...
For purposes of order I subscirbe to the basic interior offensive line versus five per Pats frontpage poll.

Tried to extract as much as I could on these offenses.  Was given a gambling book, published by Warner Brothers about 1988 that had a nice little formational history as to the whys and hows of formation and scheme evolution.

There was a tribute to Camps original T as differentiated from the orthodox T, double splits and the quarterback a quarter of the way back.  Think there is something to be gleaned there as well.  Really felt Stoops was employing this neglected, even exitnct, almost never was mindset his first three years at Oklahoma.

Subscribing to the interior as opposed to five as a whole, once those communications are standardized and the tackles can establish edge to either flank (read 4 flanks), motion really becomes the big area for shotgun optioning without venturing too far down the spread path.

SLide Canadian and bounce motion, along with fly, jet and rocket are some of what Ive seen and make for better run and shoot schemes in the shotgun qb wedge threat.

like the run n shoot aspect as dig and smash are always there for T passing windows, but for the t guy, mesh is hard to find and is often reduced to drag curl or some other bland hitch.

Mesh is a real trouble issue schematically in the T passing game, sort of like cross can be a run play to pro set guys or a pass route, mesh to a T guy has to do more with the qb getting in and out of his blocks with crisp delivery (handoff) than receivers rubbing elbows downfield before they split routes on a zone defender.

Some educated slide protection with beautiful motions can get that T QB out on the flank without having to waggle, looking downfield for the mesh - hence getting the defensive secondary out of run support zone coverage, particularly the two.

Counter option is probably my favorite area of research, and would think that counter boot from a pistol or gun would get the same flank advantage as the run n shoot taking advantage of ends peaking their nose under tackle.  If they dont take the bait and open up the traditional T wildcat run game, run a fly or rocket with turn up inside between GT.

The fly is the next evolution if the formation doesnt go so far as to boneback the qb.

best,
Crysler

When I was born Gerald Ford was opening libraries named after himself in Michigan and playing 18 holes at the best golf courses.  I did read a little about his presidency when I finally got to grade school.
